We must improve on the offensive line and overall defensive play. I can tell you that those two areas were the main focus of spring practice. I can also tell you that the difference the dedication the player have had to the off-season strength and speed develpment program has made a huge difference in the performance and capabilities of several of our players. I can say that we are much stronger and much quicker than we were last year at any given time. I can also say we are better right now defensively and on our O-line than we were at the end of the year last year! Oh yea, and we will keep working for the next 4 months just as hard as we have worked the last 4 months. The coaching staff is very excited about this season.l

I agree, McCreary will be much better this year. The Coaching Staff will be basicaly the same. The Players have worked hard and continue to work hard. McCreary has 3 players drawing a lot of attention from College recruiters. The Raiders have about 20 kids that can play and not have much of a let down in talent. They have about 35 kids they can depend on being there and goning to work when it is time to work. Watts and Roark will be one of the best QB/TB combinations in the State. Vince Staten 6'3" 290, Pat Perryman 6'5" 240, Rick Tripplett 6' 220, Terrance Snyder 6' 245, James Ball 6' 1" 185 and Steve Snead 6' 200 should be a solid Line. McCreary will be blessed with 3 good TE's. Cody Smith 6'3" 225 and Zack Ridner 6' 190 both started last year, add FR. Tyson Williams 6'4" 230 and there is a lot of talent there. Dustin Goins and Jason Perry return at WR. I think you can see why Fans are excited in Raider Land. GO RAIDERS!!!!!

Sounds like Coach Gay has things going his way. Good luck in 2009

MC is definately blessed with size and speed but were last year as well. I hope that they can fix the problems with the defense because they didn't play well on that side of the ball in 08. I also hope they can stay healthy. MC fans are expecting a good year and we will be disapointed if they don't finish better than 500% in 09! Everyone is behind you guys so go get'em Raiders. :ylsuper:

I think McCreary will be much improved but will finish 3rd or 4th in the district IMO probably 4th. They have the best pl;ayer in the region with that being Watts good luck in 09.

I think the Coaching Staff will be disapointed if they don't play above 500. However remember this is a real tough schedule. When you play in the best 4A Dist. in the state, then add Edmonson Co. Wayne Co. , Lynn Camp and pick up an up and coming Powell Co. team, that is pretty rough. But from what I've seen they will be up to the task.

Any future players looking to help besides Watts, and Roark?

Any future players looking to help besides Watts, and Roark?

We had 10 make the all district team (most ever) and only 3 were seniors. I think you will here the following names some this year: Preston Shoopman, Vince Staten, Dustin Goins along with Watts and Roark. We have several other tough kids who will make a huge impact but you know as well as I do that lineman type players don't get their name in the lights much! I can't tell you how the season is going to go because I am not clairvoyant but I can say this is the hardest working most dedicated group we have ever had and we had more big hitters and kids willing to learn and do it right in spring practice than we have ever had. So we are excited about the season and the kids know that they can beat people and they talk about how their hard work will pay off and that they are going to shock people this year. This is new territory for McCreary football and I am talking about believing in ourselves as a team! Can't wait until the season starts!

There is a lot of Help for Watts and Roark. Vince Staten 6' 3" 290, Terranc Snyder 6' 245. Several kids in the 175- 200 lb. range, too many to name. This can be a good Team.

I really feel McCreary downfall last season was the injury bug. 4-2 record when it started. 9 starters out in one game, The last 4 regular season games Watts and Roark out in some of those 3 to 4 other players out in all 4 games. Who could overcome all that. The Def. did not play up to par with Watts and Rusty Neal out. The Def. will be very much improved and the Off. will put points on the Board. MC could be very good.

Could it also be because those first four wins came against 4 teams with a combined 4-39 record? Against the two teams with winning records (single A Williamsburg 44-28 and district rival Knox Central 53-6), MC was 0-2 during that span.

Time will tell, you people always want to find the neg. things to talk about, the score was not 53 to 6 . It was 20-16 at the half when Watts was held out the 2nd half. Think what you want, we'll see on Sept. 25. Good Luck to Knox and we'll see you then.

The score of the Knox Central-McCreary Central game last season was 53-6. There's no way the score at halftime could have been 20-16 so I'm guessing that you meant maybe 20-6?

It was 53-6, look it up. Paint it any way you wish, but it looks like a 47 point loss to me.
