Hazard has to ability to keep it close for awhile, however line up Hunter and run at Hazard to open up Deaton/Cole as well as other Jumper recievers, and its a long night for the Bulldogs. I thought Pikeville was to be had all year, and the Dogs proved it. Hats off to them from coming a long way from being blanked by Harlan 34-0 early in the season, to competing for a Regional Championship. Somerset has too many weapons and an improved defense. One thing that makes defenses better is a great offense. Offensive success breeds defensive success with rest, encouragement and reward for stops. IMO Harlan has the best defense in the district, but I know its arguable esp. for the Jumper fans. If Harlan's offense were able to generate more good things, the defense would look a lot better. Somerset's D got more successful as the offense started winning in the district. Again, rest, reward for stops, seeing positives on the scoreboard. I can't prove this, but I believe it. NG, time to let it go. Lets get past the what ifs. End of the day, its a game. As far as Cole/Deaton and Co., you have to limit Cole. To do that you have to double, when you double, you just hope no one else can damage you. Prob. with Somerset is, lots of folks can hurt you. Now that Hunter is back, as I've said before, kind of completes this team. And Deaton can really run. Should have no trouble with Hazard, but be careful, they've become kind of Golden here at the end. Guys, lots of good players on both Harlan and Somerset, no use in beating it to death. Somebody start a new thread. I'm tired.

I'm glad it was obvious to everyone. But as I said, it wasn't the difference in the game.

Don't mean to step into y'alls secrets, but I know there are some Jumpers who remember him!

I forgot to mention a big:thumb: to some great folks from Williamsburg who came to the game last night to support the Big Green!

The only thing I've got left to do is find that Indian I bought the Rain dance tape from and get my money back! Now I do have a question, and it may be elsewhere on this forum. Why are the Jumpers going up to 3A?

Let me preface by saying that Somerset played a great game and won. The Somerset D has come a long way, and our offense really hasn't come along enough to overcome a really good D. Now the comment nobody in Somerset is going to like and I say it because it needs to be said, again and please hear me, taking nothing from the Jumpers. This was one of the worst officiated games I have ever witnessed. The first two calls IMO did not change the final outcome, however, it certainly took away 2 possessions from the Dragons. The punt recovery went like this. Somerset punted. The Dragon player bobbled the ball, then fell on it. The ball and the player were down. Somerset player falls on the Dragon player, rolls him over, picks up the ball and the Ref gives it to Somerset. The fumble recovery was also down, with the Refs not blowing the whistle and several Somerset players digging the ball from the Dragon player. Both plays happened right in front of me. Its a shame this kind of thing happens. It can take the wind out of your sails. Having said that(and I'm sure to take some heat for my comments), Coach Cobb had a smart game plan, playing to our weaknesses and exploiting them. Again, I think 2 things have really elevated the Jumper's game. 1. The return of Hunter and 2. The growing up of the Jumper defense. Congrats and Good Luck in Hazard. Harlan beat Hazard 34-6 early in the year. Looks like a regional trophy for Somerset. Sorry I missed you Andy!

Hey, thanks. One thing I've found is the BGP bunch by and large are a great bunch! I didn't know why the last thread closed. In any case, you are right, 2 great programs with great fans ( like us!) and a great atmosphere. Darn, my rain dance didn't work! Jumpers have the edge (all the team is on the bus, so I can say it), but on a good night with a good plan, who knows? All the best should the Jumpers prevail. That Pikeville bunch think they've got it sown up, so somebody has to teach em a lesson, hope its the Dragons, but if not, the Jumpers will have my vote. See ya there in the crowd.

Harlan's defensive line should have someone in the mix. Jones, Howard, Farrow, along with Ball, Langford, Stephenson, one of the best defenses around.

Jon Lundy from Harlan. 3 years at QB at Harlan, converted to RB late last year. Competent reciever, and very good DB. Long snaps when needed for Punts, PATs. Has been seen helping the water boy and cleaning the stadium in his spare time.

The way the Burg was catchin' the ball last night, if he hadn't been hurt, may have been the difference. However, Jeffries and Moses and others stepped up big for the Jackets and really pushed the Dragons to the wall, of course along with Frazier and Root. These Burg seniors are a talented group. I know the Jacket faithful will miss em big!

:thumb: Welcome fellow Dragonite! I'm glad to have another friendly poster to hold up the Dragon end of things on BGPs! Sometimes things get plenty hot in here, but after awhile you learn who the crazies are and who they are not. Vast majority are not, just real supporters of their teams. These guys who have welcomed you love thier team, but they are class acts as evidened by the welcome. I agree with the post, though in that Harlan had multiple opportunities also. Williamsburg is a dangerous team, after taking care of that business, hopefully our guys will get their chance to win the District Championship for the first time since 1999. Again welcome!

Just to put it to you......this kind of post only gives all ad fans a black eye. Thanks a lot from all of us not worthy class A teams.:mad: :creepy: :eek:

Harlan is a much better team also. "No Chance" is a ridiculous statement. I hope the panthers continue to be as overconfident as you are.

:thumb: I just hope we get the chance to see another game between these two teams. They just battled away at each other Friday night. should be another good one should we meet again. Business to be done before that though.

If there is a lesson in this thread, let it be that each of us do whatever we can to encourage our schools, fans, players, announcers, down to the waterboys to be class acts. The game can be played with grit and determination, can be watched and cheered for, calls can even be disputed without classless, degrading behavior from anyone. The difference betwen a class act and no class folks is that class acts rise above the ground level and follow the golden rule even if they don't get treated well themselves. Following someone or some group down to their level only gets you dirty. Its hard, and sometimes not fair, but the alternative eventually leads to something terrible, like a fight, or some other worse violence. I've been plenty mad at some opposing stadiums, but on this forum I've made friends from some of them and now I know its the minority that cause the problems. "Evil wins when good men do nothing". I've been guilty of getting carried away, but I'm trying to do better. There are good folks everywhere.

I would say that the Harlan Green Dragons have thus far exceeded expectations this year. I don't think anyone anticipated thier defensive prowess. With an on again off again offense, the Green Machine has done a couple things that haven't been done in awhile. 1. Swept Harlan County teams for 2 years running. 2. Beat Hazard ( I know they are down this year, but beating them at home has never been easy) 3. Been ranked among the best in class A in the State in several polls most of the year. 4. Held opposing offenses to an average of 14 points per game. Around 9 from the defense. 5. Held Somerset to 14 points. ( yeah I know wet field:D ) 6. Transitioned to a more spread offense in the process. Another team in our district who I believe exceeded was the Williamsburg Jackets. They are in contention for the District title as well. Jury is out, but as I said way long weeks ago when the season was young, these guys play with one heart. There is no "star". They are a team. I'm proud of them for that, no matter what transpires from here out.
