  1. Will all players be back this weekend (Highlands and Bellevue games) or at Senior retreat?
  2. Number of boys for football. Also there are more teams in 1A than say 2A because some of the teams in 1A elected to not compete in district play. I'm not a big fan of allowing teams to move up but when you go to 6 classes with basically 4 or 5 teams in every district you almost have to allow it. Otherwise, teams could have to travel over 100 miles to every district game. Go back to 4 classes or go to 4 classes and a super-class and teams would not have to move.
  3. How was that not just a violation on X after the UC basketball? X player out of bounds throws it to X player in bounds....who steps out of bounds and throws it in to another player?
  4. You've got to be kidding. Guarantee Highlands and Beechwood would never be for it. Highlands self-imposed a multiplier on themselves in order to JOIN Covington Catholic in 5A.
  5. Mainly because you could also break up passes while you are watching since you are that close!! And maybe a newer goal post seeing as the refs are actually higher than the goal post after they climb up the mini-flood wall. Hope they keep the bathrooms though. Easy in, easy out, no frills.
  6. How insulting would a multiplier be to Highlands, Belfry, Mayfield, Beechwood, Danville, Russell, Bowling Green, Male, and other public schools that have no problem getting it done?
  7. I thought the lights were fine at Manual Stadium. The only thing really needed is about 10 more yards at each end of the field. And if I lived there maybe a net to catch PATs before they bounced off my porch.
  8. I would just caution that while it is enjoyable to see good teams match-up in good games, I would limit it because the games should be easily accessible by the schools students and fans. Two hour trips by students driving cars on unfamiliar roads is always a worry-thing.
  9. So Lexcath has an unfair advatage over Bell Co numbers-wise because they are a private school........but Ryle's advantage is not the same? So should there be a class for public schools that have coaches that encourage all players and a class for public schools that like to limit the number of players? Should there be a class for schools like Beechwood that always have a large roster despite being in Class A? Should Scott, which next year might have 35-40 players not have to play in the same 5A district with Dixie who might have 60-65?
  10. Some discussion over replays being shown or not shown on the scoreboard inside PJS during the State Finals? Please vote and post your thoughts.
  11. There may have been a receiver or two open but the NCC safety was the deepest player on the field so it would not likely have been a TD. It's a terrible call because at that point of the game and at that position on the field it is just asking for trouble. You don't need to go for the jugular when you are up 7 and not being stopped and the clock is running in the fourth quarter. Plus your punting was shaky earlier. I don't want to overly be critical but that one play could have just thrown away the advantage Fort Campbell had worked hard to get.
  12. So last year in the largest class (4A) public school Ryle (in NKY) with 75-80 players dressed had no business beating up on public school Henderson County with maybe 35 players dressed in the semi-finals? What advantages did Ryle have that allowed them to dress twice as many players?
  13. Actually the one area NCC dominated in the game was special teams play. The coach of Fort Campbell put the punter in a bad situation with what was maybe the most bonehead play call in a long time. Leading 14-7 and ripping off long run after long run that NCC hadn't stopped all day and especially in the second half, why would you run a double reverse with a pitch back to the QB? It fooled no one and not only killed the drive, it made the punt come from deep in their own territory. Granted your punter should not shank it, but if he shanks it from mid-field thats a lot different than losing all that yardage in your own territory.
  14. Trying to speculate on many random thoughts in this thread: 1. Coach Schneider does not do as much in game coaching as before because he has an O-cord. in his son and a D-cord. in Wagner. 2. His son is more of a Xs and Os design guy and behind the scenes guy who puts in long hours and not someone IMO who wants to be a head coach with all that entails. 3. D-Cord. Wagner is my guess to be the next coach. He has nearly all his public school pension time in and would be one to stick around awhile. 4. Don't know about the Highlands/NCC match-up ever. When Highlands dropped NCC for other non-district opportunites (such as Elder at PBS) it was the best decision for their program at the time. Remember it was late 90s and NCC had two losing seasons and Highlands was chasing mythical national championships. Playing Cincinnati teams was the only way to accomplish that. However, it is no secret that the decision did not sit well with Coach Schneider who did not want the series to end. 5. NCC will be good again next year with 23 Seniors next year including the QB and RB. The Junior class next year is on the low side with 10 and 9 are lineman. The Soph class next year is deep (22) and very talented especially at the skill positions and only lost 1 game by 1 point as Frosh. The JR high team had an extremely large number of players and they will be joined by some key Red Devils next year as Frosh. So whether he returns or not I have no idea, but whoever coaches should be okay for the next few years.
  15. I don't believe team can move at all next year as schedules were set for 2 years (07 and 08). In 09 the next realignment comes. That's when teams can ask to be moved but remember you have to ask, and in 07 you had to have a reason such as there are no teams in your classification near you. Some teams were denied in 07 because it would have overloaded a district or left a district with less than 4 teams.
  16. For this year teams could move up more than 1 class as Highlands was 3A enrollment-wise but moved to 5A in order to be in a district that had teams near it. The thought is that the rule for 09 might be that unless you move up to 6A, you have to stay in the class you are either currently in or in the class you really should be in.
  17. The Moeller job may the most difficult in the area pressure-wise. Heck Crable had barely taken the job and the complaining had begun. It is unreal to expect Moeller to attain the levels of the 70s and 80s today but that doesn't stop the Moe faithful. Whomever takes the job faces a tough task.
  18. We will all know more tomorrow or whenever it is broadcast again. I thought it bounced in real time but could not say for certain. I know the officials did not have a good look at it because they both looked at each other and did not make a call. But............my wife was at the concession stand and saw the replay and said the ball bounced into the receiver hands.........a photgrapher shooting pictures in that endzone called and said the ball bounced..............they started to show the replay in the stadium and it was yanked off the screen. Actually in the long run by calling it a TD then, it may have left enough time on the clock for NCC to score at the end of the half if you think about it.
  19. Basically the game came down to two things. 1. NCC could not get enough stops on defense (and never did stop the run) to make Fort Campbell punt because special teams play kept NCC in the game. 2. The Fort Campbell defense was able to hold NCC out of the endzone on what like 27 plays between the 10 and the goaline before forcing a fumble with the score 14-7 and five minutes left. If NCC scores there to tie it with 5 minutes left, I think they may have gone on and won it. Which would be a shame in a way because they had been out-played by Fort Campbell on offense and defense and only two bad punt plays had really kept NCC in the game. The two endzone calls were of course huge but in the end NCC had every chance in the world to tie the game and just could not get it done. BTW, the replay on the first TD was not shown inside the stadium on the scoreboard for good reason. It was shown on the TVs at the concession stands and the ball bounced before being caught. On the other call, unknown if the NCC receiver caught the ball in the endzone or at the 1. Still if you can't make a yard, you don't deserve to win. Fort Campbell was just a little bigger upfront on offense and just a little quicker outside. On defense they covered well and put pressure on the QB all day. Take away the bothched punt and the stupid play call that left Fort Campbell in a 4th and long whereby they punted 4 yards and NCC might have not scored or be in position to score.
  20. Is it unfair to compare teams? Of course, but what the heck. Here's my take. Most would consider the 98 Lorenzen/Smith team as one of the best teams ever but I actually thought it was unfortunate that they never got that one big out of state test that so many other Highlands teams were fortunate enough to get. Because I think they would have done quite well. You could argue that the season openeing win over Male (who went on to win Class AAAA) was proof enough that this team was the best ever. Now this Highlands team also had the misfortune of not playing in that big out of state contest too. Trotwood was a very good team but their failure in the Ohio postseason shows that they were not a truly supreme team. It would have been so much fun to see Highlands take on a Colerain or Cincy St.X this year or even a Trinity or St.X because again I think they would have performed quite well. So basically through schedule quirks I would rate both teams equal and I would throw the 99 and 00 teams in as well because of the schedule they both played.
  21. Question: On the 4th and goal when the FG was not attempted......was the ball in the center of the field?
  22. Just for fun here is the first 5 years coaching record: 1966 GCL record 5-2, other games 3-0, overall 8-2 1967 GCL record 2-5, other games 2-0, overall 4-5 1968 GCL record 2-5, other games 2-1, overall 4-6 1969 GCL record 2-5, other games 1-2, overall 3-7 1970 GCL record 0-6, other games 2-2, overall 2-8 I don't believe Coach Schneider ever beat Moeller or St.X in the GCL. I believe most of the wins were against LaSalle and McNicholas. Maybe a win over Purcell or Roger Bacon. A lone 27-14 win over Elder that first year by holding Elder to a minus 8 yards rushing.
  23. I'm sure coaches like Schneider and Mueller could have made much more money coaching "up the ladder" or even teaching somewhere else or in another profession. But dedication to doing something you love that makes a difference in others is hard to beat.
  24. Augusta should put George Clooney in. St. Pat's takin' care of bizness.
