Last night, in the NBA, Stephon Marbury played 35 minutes and only scored 7 points, as the New York Knicks got beat by the Charlotte Hornets. I wonder how many people feel as though he isn't a "big time player"? Everyone at that game, and everyone that is reading this thread realizes that Seals didn't hang 30 points on Somerset, while leading Raceland to a win. Bottom line is that she still played hard, and as long as she gave her best effort, her coach and her teammates will be more than happy with that on any given night. One bad line score does not invalidate her worth to a basketball team - just like one off night doesn't make Stephon Marbury a "has been" in the NBA. Frances

Jim Valvano has the all time greatest line in basketball - In the middle of his run to the NCAA championship with NC State, he calls time out during one game in the tournament, and instead of going to the huddle to talk to his team, he approaches the ref: Valvano: "Can you give me a technical foul for what I'm thinking?" Ref: "Come on Coach - you know I can't T you up for what you're thinking". Valvano: "GREAT - cause I think you suck". Absolute classic.

I am surprised by your use of the "laughing" emoticon. If I didn't know any better, I would swear that you were intentionally being obtuse. At no point did I say that because one team won the first encounter that the loser would be the favorite in the rematch. I can assure you that when Ashland and Rose Hill play again, Rose Hill will come into the game expecting to win, and Ashland will prepare for the game with the understanding that Rose Hill is capable of winning. Anything else would be folly. The truth is that both teams will approach the game with the same mindset - "we must play well to win, and if we play well, we have a chance to win". Of course, using your logic, it would appear that when Russell plays Ashland, Boyd County, Rose Hill, Greenup, Raceland, or Elliott County again, they will assume that the win is guaranteed, based on the previous games outcome. If you really believe that the outcome of a previous game has a direct impact on the outcome of a game yet to be played, then please tell me why we ever play twice in one season? My point was (and is) that if you wish to discount "ancient" history, then please be honest enough to admit that "recent" history has exactly the same value - that is to say - none. At the very least, you could have the decency to admit that you are going to cherry pick your "frame of reference" to suit your argument and stroke your own ego. Welcome back to reality. Frances

Well, you didn't mention that in the original post, but since you bring it up, I'll answer your question with a question: When you mention "head to head" how far back are we going? I'm sure that over the entire history of the series, Ashland probably looks pretty good. Of course, if we are going to throw out "ancient history", then I'll have to ask that we throw out everything but the upcoming game. After all, a game from earlier this season has no more effect on the upcoming game than one that was played in 1937. Clark has a great coach (Scott Humphrey) and a true stud (Knowles). There aren't many teams that wouldn't have their hands full with them. Frances

Congratulations to Fairview on the nice win. As for the comments about Barker, I'll counter by saying that he has gotten the absolute most out of his gifts that any kid in the 16th Region has. To say that he is overrated is pretty steep. He is the backbone of a very young team, and I doubt that any coach in the 16th Region wouldn't love to have him on his team. Frances

Just a reminder from the thread discussing Ashland's loss to Ironton earlier in the year: First, let's keep in mind that Ashland only put 44 on the board against Ironton, so it's not like I'm saying that we played our best game against them. Second, I don't know that Duck likes having guarantees made in his name. Third, just for kicks and giggles, I visited the Riherds scoreboard, and after 20 games for Ashland, and 21 games for Russell, the numbers aren't looking too good for Shooter's prediction: Ashland 1324 points in 20 games = 66.2 ppg Russell 1254 points in 21 games = 59.7 ppg I realize that the season isn't over yet, but right now, it's not looking too good.
