  1. That's not fair, GIAT. Shooterx3 knows full well what it's like to play for third place, too. Frances
  2. Thanks, scooterbob. It's good to see you finally getting over that constant need you used to have, to try to belittle Ashland whenever you could. :thumb: Frances
  3. Nothing "old hat" about it. I reject your reasoning for the White House saying that it is being blown out of proportion. Saying that the White House has minimal interest in campaign type rhetoric is laughable. Frances
  4. Congrats to the Royals. Nice win, and it gets them back on track as the Districts draw near. Frances
  5. Congratulations to Elliott County. Big win, late in the season. I'm with Onetoya - Ashland will regroup and give it another shot. Sounded like Elliott's ability to hit the 3 turned the tide. Frances
  6. Oh come on, Diamond Dandy! What's five or six billion dollars, compared to a chance to rail against a request that even the White House has said is a non-issue? Frances
  7. This is total hogwash. The fact that a player may generate income by virtue of generating fan interest does not, in any way, entitle that player to a different set of rules. That very mindset is exactly why we see an unending string of athletes getting caught with their hand in the cookie jar as they reach college or the pros. Allowing OJ (or any other athlete) to believe that their abilities somehow allow them to be above the rules that the rest of the world lives by is an invitation to disaster. The list of athletes that find this cold hard truth the hard way is long, indeed. Frances
  8. From Boyd County, you would also have to add Melanie May and Mindy Boggs (now married to Don Daniels - boys head coach at Rowan County). Frances
  9. I got a good chuckle out of this one. :thumb: Frances
  10. I realize that not everyone that roots for OJ to do well would, could, or should be labeled as an idolator. I was simply playing off of your post that accused others of jealousy. Without a doubt, there are some that truly suffer from jealousy of OJ, and his potential future. Likewise, there are some that suffer from idolatry of that same potential future. In my opinion, there are very few that can truly be cast in either of those camps. Rather, the majority lie somewhere in between. Frances
  11. I think this is an excellent post. Those parents that were going to extremes to defend Hicks should now be pulling just as hard to support Sutton. If they are going to undercut Sutton, then they and their sons will get exactly what they deserve. I also agree completely with Gatorlover in regards to the kids that are not giving 100% effort on the floor. If a kid doesn't want to play hard, then I hope Sutton pulls them from the game. I don't know what Sutton has on the bench, but I would back him playing sophomores and freshmen if the older kids are just going to "mail it in". As a coach, I can lose with younger kids just as well as I can lose with an older kid that won't give effort. At least the younger kid gets experience, and the older kid will learn that playing time on the floor isn't some sort of birthright. We've all seen parents defending Hicks - and that's all fine and good. Those parents should be mature enough to realize that Hicks is no longer the coach - Sutton is. If those parents have one shred of decency about them, then they should be doing everything they can to support Sutton now. Undercutting Sutton will only make the remainder of this season miserable for ALL of the kids on the Greenup County team. I hope Sutton gets some support from these people (and their sons), and I will go farther and say that I hope he gets a chance to sit in the big chair next year as well. It would be unfair to judge him as a coach, based on what he can do with this circus surrounding him. Frances
  12. Scooterbob - I think you misunderstand my position on Mayo. I'm neither a "basher" nor a "devoted fan". I consider myself a fan, from the standpoint of admiring his abilities. I also recognize that as he has gone through his relatively short life, he has been catered to by a group of people that see him as nothing more than a meal ticket. At this point, it is a miracle that he doesn't treat everyone like mud on his shoe, considering that his "handlers" act as they do. All that said, he is old enough to take responsibility for his actions - whether those actions are good or bad. This is true for EVERY 18 year old in this country, and I consider Mayo no different in that regard - his basketball abilities notwithstanding. I'm all for Mayo, and I wish him the best. I hope that he goes to the NBA and has a long career. I bear him no grudge whatsoever. He is now past the point of being able to lay any shortcomings at the feet of his "posse", and I look forward to the day that he leaves them behind. Frances
  13. I didn't see "GottaRebound"'s name on the sheet. I think the next game goes to "Sharples". Frances
  14. Congrats to the Devils. I think Turner is a good looking kid - or, at least, I did when I saw him play last year. How did Branham do for BC? Frances
  15. I loved the song, but that second line sends chills down the spine of everyone that ever strapped on ankle braces and launched a jumper toward the rim ... In a cold sweat, Frances PS - I was in San Francisco for three days, on a business trip.
  16. And there is another eight letter word that describess the attitude of a few toward him - IDOLATRY. Personally, I think that it's obvious that in terms of his ability to play basketball, he is in an extreme minority of athletes that combined great athleticism with an incredible skill set. He will reap the rewards that come with that, in terms of financial success in professional basketball. On the other hand, the point that is being made about him no longer being a "kid" is legitimate. At the age of 18, we are responsible for our own actions - whether they show us in a good light or a bad light. Frances
  17. LBBC - I went back to re-read the thread, trying to find out where anyone had accused Bush of starting the hickack. I don't see it. Did I miss it in one of the earlier posts? Frances
  18. Good question, LRCW. I doubt that he'll try to, though. He knows perfectly well that he is there to get an education, and football at that level will take plenty of his non classroom time. Frances
  19. I agree, FBALL. Georgetown is doing an excellent job of getting kids from inside the state (especially our end of the state) that will, over time, make a big difference in their level of football. Excellent job of recruiting by the Tiger staff. Frances
  20. You are correct, GIAT - only about a one hour drive from the Bavier Arms ... Frances
  21. Maybe she is referring to her home in Nepal? Frances
  22. I just got the news (from an EXTREMELY reliable source) that Drew McDavid (WR - Ashland) has decided to play at Georgetown. Drew will be able to play alongside other athletes from the eastern end of the state, such as Josh Gross from Russell. Congratulations to Drew, and his family. Georgetown picks up another excellent kid with a great work ethic. Frances
