Some good teams there, firebird. It's hard to say how two teams would ever match up, ESPECIALLY when they took the floor thirty years apart. It's all speculation, but it makes for great conversation. Frances

Based on one game, I would have to agree. I have no idea what other players in the state look like, as I don't normally see that many girls' games. Make no mistake, if I were picking an All-State team, it would be hard to imagine being able to find five other girls that could outplay her over time. I watched three games last night, and I saw at least five girls that I wouldn't mind having, and building a team around. Obviously, she would be one of them.

Not trying to start a firestorm, but being completely honest, saying that OJ Mayo "grew up" in Huntington is a stretch. He has spent more time out of the city than he has in it, and speaking from the standpoint of where he has played his games as a high schooler, it isn't even open to debate. Frances

We will never know the true answer, but the Ballard team from the mid to late 70's with Lamp, Raker and Evans would have been a good matchup with them. The 95 Paintsville team was pretty daggone solid too. That would have been a good game. Frances

As an unbiased observer (I have no daughter playing high school basketball), I watched that game with great interest. I would begin by saying that she was double teamed whenever Scott County set up a halfcourt offense, which obviously limited her scoring opportunities. She is an excellent ballhandler, and she does an excellent job of seeing the floor. I don't have enough knowledge of her game, and it may be that she is valued as a point guard more than a scorer. I have to say that when she got an open look, she had a very nice looking stroke, and the results were usually good. All that said, in my opinion, she was outplayed in this game by two of her teammates. I do not know their names, but #21 had the most productive game for Scott County in terms of points, and #10 for Scott County was a very good looking player. She was an underclassman (I believe she was a sophomore or a junior) that ran the floor very well, played aggressively, jumped well, and was a power in the paint, both offensively and defensively. I have to tell you, that growing up in my old neighborhood, we were so poor, that we occasionally had to shag our own tennis balls at the country club. Heck - I was seven years old before I found out that argyle socks were not to be worn after Labor Day when attending Broadway shows. Frances

I'm sure that both Biggs and Wilcox would tell you that it is Buddy Biggs' team. Like all good coaching staffs, if Wilcox (as an assistant) has input for a player, he will give it. If it is something that Biggs' disagrees with, they will resolve the issue behind closed doors, and then be back on the floor for the next practice or game, working together to make the team as strong as they can. That is how good coaching staffs work. A head coach that does not allow his assistants to have a voice is, in effect, saying "I know everything there is to know, and I see everything there is to see". You don't see that very often, and head coaches with that attitude don't tend to last too long. I've watched three Ashland games under Biggs this year, and I haven't seen anything that made me think he isn't "driving the bus". Frances

Looking at the scores you posted, I doubt that Allen Central would dispute that. I'm thinking that there will be better matchups for Russell as the tournament unfolds. Frances

I just checked the Riherds scoreboard, and I see that the Kittens won their game. Can anyone that attended give us an update on the games of the tournament? Frances

I also would like to congratulate the Shelby County Rockettes. They played extremely good team basketball, and number 10 for them absolutely shot lights out. I watched three games at the "Shoot for the Cure" event, and I have to say that of all the girls I watched, #10 for Shelby had the best single game. I also liked #10 for Scott County, who played extremely well. I apologize for not knowing either of this players names, but they really stood out last night. Frances

Two years ago, Ashland played Mason County in football, and I had heard a lot of good things about the Mason radio crew. Both the Ashland and Mason calls for the game were on the internet, so I took the opportunity to listen to Martin for the first and third quarters, then Weddle for the second and fourth. I have to say that both did an excellent job calling the game. It didn't matter which crew you listened to - both were very professional about keeping you up to speed about what was going on on the field, and both were right on top of the names of all the athletes. I have no doubt that there are other very good crews around the state, but for my money, these two radio teams take a back seat to no one. As for the Russell crew, I do believe that the play by play man is getting better, and I hope he continues to do so. Like most on here, I find the nicknames to be a distraction. Not that the nicknames aren't cute, but they should be used extremely sparingly, as opposed to being used as the basis for the call of the game. Frances

How did you come to that conclusion? McDavid had his 8th double double of the season and you say he didnt play well? That doesn't make sense to me. I could be wrong, but I took Kele's post to be a sarcastic reply to an earlier post. I may be wrong, but that is the way I took it. Frances
