In front of Bill Nolte???? Surely you jest. Thompson was barely able to play professionally (Europe and South America, I believe) for a decade or so. Nolte, on the other hand, played well into his 40's at the YMCA, drafting some of the finest talent that the area had to offer. And if you want to limit the conversation to just their high school careers, well, there really is no comparison... Frances

Russell struggled for the first half against Raceland. I don't see that as any reason to think that they aren't the number one team in the region. No team plays at the top of their abilities all season long. Until someone in the region beats them, they have to stay in that top slot. They have a solid team, and they are well coached. Frances

I think this shows that, once again, the 16th region is more balanced than many people thought it would be. Raceland played Russell tough tonight, but ultimately Russell is the lead dog in this race. That said, the pack doesn't appear to be all that far behind... Frances

WOW!! Tough call on that one, Duck. Normally, I would give the nod to Miller, but when you roll in their extended career at the "Y", I'd have to give the nod to Bammer, in a squeaker. Frances

Johnson is too good a coach to let Raceland lay down. That said, Rusell has the guns, and a not-to-shabby coach of their own. I think the outcome was a given, but the Rams made the margin closer than most expected. As with all of these games, they are really only a tuneup for districts. That said, winning feels a lot better than being on the short end of the scoreboard. Frances

You may wish to read something into that post, and you have the right to do so. Regardless of what you think it says, or what you want it to say, I will decline to defend something that you (or FBALL) are looking to be offended by. Now, on the off chance that someone that works at the refinery decides that I have somehow linked the Russell basketball team to an incident of stolen gas, they would be mistaken - even if they are looking to be offended.
