I checked the Riherds scoreboard, and still no score has been posted. Anyone have the final score, or stats from this game? Frances

Nobody is counting Rose Hill out of anything. I believe the original post was simply an attempt to place the monkey on Boyd and Ashland's back. Rose Hill is (unquestionably) a strong contender for the Region title, much less the District. Frances

I have to say that being escorted into a Dairy Queen on the arm of LRCW really made my night. I do believe that when we left, they were on the phone ordering more ice cream from the distribution center. I think I heard the manager whispering something about there being a "run on the store's supply" .... As for the game, I have to say that Boyd played better tonight (overall) than they did yesterday. Casey Branham looked pretty good (believe me when I say that it comes from his mother's side of the family), and has a very good looking stroke when he gets a chance to square up. He knocked down some huge bombs to keep Boyd in the game. Now, if he could just get a trim on that hairdo ... First time I saw Selby, and I have to say that that is one W-I-D-E load. He moves extremely well for a kid that size, with good hands and excellent feet. Boyd County needs to get him into a helmet this summer. If I had him on the line, I'd put him at guard and run traps behind him all night long. No kid alive would want to take that behemoth on more than once. Nice shot for a big man. A lot to like. I also have to agree with those that say Boyd is a much better team this year than last. This group plays together, and will certainly improve as the districts approach. All that said, it was nice to get to watch Ashland twice in the last two days, and to see what "Buddyball" is like. These kids all look to score, and they all appear to have the green light. Very unselfish, and they played hard for the two games I got to watch. Of course, Madison Central looks like a real test coming up tomorrow night. It was great to get back home and see so many old friends. It makes the drive back down I-64 tough, knowing it will be a while before I get to come back home. Frances

I read the article (I believe it is the same one that appeared in the Louisville Courier-Journal). I'm not trying to be argumentative, but I didn't see anything that was SHOCKING. I would think that you are referring to the use of the word "recruited" in the article. Obviously, the author didn't adhere to the rules of BGP when he wrote that line .... Frances

I just read the update thread, and realized that the two games in one day is a consequence of playing in a new tournament, not a scheduling error. Thanks, Frances

Well, if Queen and Terry are being asked to handle the ball to a significant degree, then 5 turnovers in a game as a sixfooter is actually a pretty good stat. Frances

I think there is something misleading about these stats, but I need some help to tell me if I am correct. Normally, seeing 5 turnovers from two six footers (Queen and Terry) would be a pretty ugly number. In this instance, though, I believe they are the result of these two players' handling the ball far more than the average six footer would in high school. Is that correct? Frances

Any stats? What was the score at the end of regulation? With three overtimes, you would think the score would have been a little higher. How did Euton do? Frances

I agree. Boyd has always had good athletes, with the odd down year. As long as they play hard, and play as a team, they will be tough to beat, regardless of the opponent. Frances

How did Branham look for BC? I missed the first part of the game, and some of the second half. Frances

As for the game, congratulations to BC. I heard Dickie Martin make a statement on the radio that I didn't expect to hear. He was talking about the coaching staff sitting on the bench for Boyd County, and when he mentioned Dave Wooten, he said something to the effect that "he was a heckuva ballplayer". Anyone that watched Wooten back in the 70's would agree, but I didn't expect to hear Dickie Martin say it. Wooten was a playmaker that could score, and playing alongside Phil Pratt, Shumway, and a couple of others, they were a tough team to beat. Frances

Let me get this straight. Buddy Biggs (or any coach, for that matter) should either live up to the expectations of someone (Ashland fan or not), or expect to be subjected to snide remarks by someone he has never met? I'm not sure what it is that entitles you to publicly ridicule others (you took shots in another thread at Rose Hill) while hiding behind an avatar and a screen name. As it was pointed out to you in the Rose Hill thread - if you wish to do some bragging on the Rowan County team and coaches, that's fine. I hope you do so. On the other hand, it would be nice (often called "polite") if you didn't feel the need to constantly rag on other teams (kids and coaches included). Many kids in middle school have not yet matured enough to realize that badmouthing classmates does not make them look better. It simply points out their own immaturity. We all realize that BGP is a great place to "dig" at each other, and provoke responses. It would be appreciated, though, if you didn't use kids to acheive that goal. Biggs is an adult, and can defend himself. Of course, that would be predicated on your being man enough to make those nasty comments to his face. For some odd reason, I doubt that is going to happen. If you wish to take shots at GIAT, myself, scooterbob, Fastbreak, Tomcat4Life, or anyone else that is a member of this board (and can respond) then that is fair game. To anonymously take shots at someone that doesn't post on here, because you know that they can't defend themselves is both cheap and revealing. Frances

I listened to the game on the internet, and it sounded like Ashland and Boyd are fairly evenly matched. At this point in the season, I don't think either team is significantly ahead of the other. Of course, that statement is probably true of pretty much the entire 16th Region. On a side note, it's always nice to get online and see the kind comments about the kids, and the cheap shots fired at Buddy Biggs. Frances

The other voice you hear is David Payne - the owner of Ashland Sporting Goods. "Dirk" is the color man, and would be the first to tell you that he isn't a play by play man behind the microphone. He usually brings the radio crowd up to speed on stats at halftime, while Dickie steps outside for a break. Boyd now leads 45-39, with a little time off the clock in the fourth quarter. Sounds like the score is low because of poor shooting, brought about by good defense. Naturally, since I can't see the game, I'm relaying what I hear. Frances
