I wouldnt be so sure. SL is a lock IMO. But Corbin....... they have as good a chance as anyone, but I wouldnt count them in as a lock. However, if it does come down to SL and Corbin..... I really dont think it would be a tough matchup. SL beat Corbin by 17 at Corbin (and it was a 7 point game with 3 minutes left) and beat them by 30 something at SL. This game will be played at Clay, so I'm betting it is a 15-20 point victory for SL.

North Laurel is really a disappointing story at this point IMO. Really thought they had the makings a solid team...... and they are still very talented, but not where they should be.

3 players from one team would be very impressive. Its hard enough to get 1 invite, let alone 3. Hope all goes well for them though and they each get accepted. Good luck.

WOW....... who was I arguing with that said Madison Central wasnt a top team in this state. With wins over SL and Henry Clay they are obviously pretty solid.

Rock should have won that game, but poor coaching at the end of game gave Bell the chance to win. ( passing on the last drive). Rock fans should be upset with coaching staff not officials

Here is something no one is really thinking about I dont think. If SL makes it to the regional championship, it will most likely be with little to no resistance. I could be wrong, and if I am then this idea goes down the drain, BUT.... whoever faces them in the championship will probably have already played 2 very tough games. I dont know if any 13th region team would have enough left to even hang with SL, let alone beat them, come the championship game.

Several years ago..... 5 years to be exact, if I'm not mistaken...... but it was in football, not basketball...... and it wasnt even a real game. Dog fight? Maybe (but I doubt it)....... Win for Clay? very very very very very very.......... 2 days later......... very very very very unlikely!

Last season, on Log Mountain, in the regular season district matchup between Bell and Rock their was a very controversial, last second TD call that gave Bell the lead and the win. Bell Co won that game 33-29. However, Bell was getting beat badly at 1/2, and came out in the 2nd 1/2 and fought back. Bell Co. was down 4 or 5 points deep in their own territory with about a minute to play (I say 4 or 5 cause I dont remember whether they kicked and extra point or it was just the TD that gave them the lead). Bell's QB Nelson connected with Stephen Hunter for 2 huge pass completions down the sideline. This got Bell to the 1 yard line with time ticking and only a few seconds to play. Nelson hurries to the line and runs a QB sneak for the game winning TD. He had only a yard to get the ball across the plane and he did get a forward push, but he also got stuck very hard and pushed backwards. The refs called the sneak a TD, but it was very controversial because Rock fans complained that he didnt get the ball across the goaline and the TD call came too quick. Bell fans said it was good, Rock fans said it wasnt good, people from both teams on the sidelines close to the call were split both ways. I personally thought it was good (although that could be my biasis, but I dont think it is), but in all honesty it could have gone either way. There is no replay in HS sports, and the WYMT SportsOvertime camera had a terrible angle of the play which only made it more controversial. I saw the SportsOvertime shot, and based on the angle of the camera, Nelson would have HAD to have gotten the ball across the line if he got any forward push whatsoever, which he did. But there are those who disagree with that too. Anyways....... it was a very tough call, and very controversial considering it was the last play of the game that gave Bell the lead on Log Mountain. However, that is sports and for any Rock fan to CRY cheating is pretty ridiculous. A loss is a loss, so quit crying :cry: and get over it.

Thats got to be the absolute most biased statement I have read in a long time. Get over the TD call. Calling that cheating is a very big accusation, one that I'm sure you have no evidence to back up, and one that probably warrants some type of action on this board. The call was just a call you disagreed with, so quit crying. I personally think it was good, but I will concede to you that it could have went either way. It just so happened to go Bell's way and Bell Co won the game, so get over it. That is sports, just ask the Seahawks. The regional title game you are right....... Bell got ran off the field. But in the regular season game I saw it very differently, as did anyone with out "Rockcastle Red" colored glasses on. It was a very tight game, in which Bell Co. fought from behind to win. I totally agree with your opinion that Rock will be extremely hard for anyone to knock off, including Bell....... but I cannot respect an opinion that is based soley on a biased perspective.

I am fairly sure that this is purely rumor with no truth to it. Spoke to a very reliable source today that said this. Steve Wright and the entire SL ball club from the players down to the water boys are the epitomy of the word CLASS. I dont see this happening.

:laugh: You got to be kidding me. SL plays Clay at Clay in the region tourney....... SL wins, period. The only way SL doesn't win is: 1.) SL gets absolutely, obviously hosed by the refs or 2.) SL just plays downright terrible and Clay plays the best game of their season It might be a close game, it might not, depending on how well SL and Clay play comparatively. I personally dont think it would be a close game. But the outcome will be the same...... SL with a win.

Not so sure about this. But I think regardless of whether SL shows mercy or not, SL kills W'burg, unless of course they dont show.

I am not saying that nobody should even bother playing this year. Afterall, we are talking HS football, and any team can win or lose on any given night. I am just saying that based on the following evidence that I have stated, IMO it will be Bell and Rock again. I could totally be wrong, and have no problem admitting that. I am just saying that it will most likely be Bell and Rock and then everyone jumps on me for that, like I was saying that no other team had a shot. I have never said that..... go back and read all my posts.

I agree...... but once again Bell has the best shot of taking the regional championship from Rock for 4 reasons (other then the evidence I have posted): 1.) They have beaten Rock twice in the last 2 years, proving they have what it takes to defeat the Rockets. Alot of the players on this upcoming team were either contributors or starters on one of those 2 teams that defeated the Rock, so they know how to win against Rock. 2.) Bell Co is the only team in this region that has faced Rockcastle in the region championship game since '00. That means that everytime Rock has made it to the regional championship, so has Bell. They have squared off 3 times in the last 5 regional championships. The two years they didnt meet - one year neither team was in the finals, the other year Bell Co. won it. Considering this trend, if Rock is a lock for the region championship game, then I'd say that Bell Co. is a lock too. 3.) Bell has its own regional championship from 2 years ago, and alot of the kids that are starting now, were either contributors or at least on that team. This leads me to believe 2 things: #1 these kids have tasted the region crown #2 these kids are hungry for another regional title. This is something no serious contender from District 8 can say. Mason could say it, but I doubt they have as serious a shot as Ashland or JCHS, not to mention that most the kids off of Mason's '03 championship team are long gone. 4.) Bell Co. has the best shot of dethrowning Rock because they have the best shot of getting back to the regional title game. 2 reasons support this: #1 They return nearly the entire roster of a regional runnerup squad. This group is hungry to avenge an embarrasing home loss in the region championship, after beating Rock out for the district championship. Remember, this is practically the exact same squad that had no trouble getting to the region championship last year by rolling over both Lawrence Co. and Madison Southern #2 Bell and Rock will have a much easier run to the region finals playing District 8's #3 or #4 seed, whereas the #1 and #2 seed of District 8 (most likely Ashland and JCHS) will have it much tougher playing District 7's #3 and #4 seed. Clay and Madison Southern are probably the favorites to take the #3 and #4 seeds in District 7, and they will present a much tougher matchup for Ashland and JCHS, then Mason and Lawrence, the favorites to take the #3 and #4 seeds in District 8, will for Bell and Rock. Why do I say this. 3 reasons: #1 Ashland and JCHS lost a lot of senior talent that contributed largely to their success #2 Despite the talent they had last season, JCHS couldnt even get past Madison Southern in the 1st round. I dont see how they get out of the 1st round this season, unless they meet Madison Southern again, who lost a ton of senior talent as well #3 The fact that Clay is much like Bell and Rock, in that they return the majority of their young, but promising squad. #4 The fact that both Clay and Madison Southern will be very very battle tested after battles with Rock and Bell Like you said..... all this is preseason and really means nothing. But I am just simply discussing. If it doesnt matter to you because its preseason, then why are you posting on this board? Of course all of this is preseason talk and when the season rolls around, I could be totally wrong or completely right, just like you could be totally wrong or completely right. Also, if they didnt care then why are they posting on these boards too. I just think, based on the evidence I have, that I make the best argument. You dont have to get so offensive.

To answer your question: BOTH!!! But if Bell ever faces SL, then I'm for the Bobcats! However, considering they dont play on the gridiron, and rarely face on the bball court, I dont have to make that choice very often.

I would say that the 3 or 4 spot in District 7 goes to Clay or Madison Southern. I think that Wayne Mills has Knox Central going in the right direction and they may suprise a few as well. District 8, is by far, the most competitive district in this region, or at least it has been recently. That is strange considering that District 7 has been the regional power, despite its lack of district competitiveness. District 7 has been dominated by Rock and Bell for quite some time. Madison Southern gave Rock and Bell a run for their money last season, but I think that will change this season as they lose a ton of senior talent. Clay may have a chance to gain some respect, but I think they still wont be on the level of Rock and Bell when it comes to district play.

There will be a runnerup......... and if Rockcastle is your favorite to win it, then Bell has to be your favorite to be runnerup. No way around that. Hopefully my Bobcats can change that trend this season though!!!

But it does mean its going to be a tall order for such a tradition rich program to be knocked off the top of the region. I think Bell will have the best chance of doing this, but its going to be hard for whoever.

As bad as I hate to say it.........I would totally agree with you, and disagree with freshstart. Bell has only beaten Rock twice since '00. Both of those were regular season games. When Bell and Rock meet in the playoffs Rock is something like 4-0 against Bell. Alot of those games have been battles, but Rock holds the obvious advantage, especially come playoff time. HOWEVER, Bell stands the best chance of beating Rock...... better then any other team in the region, but it will be a tall order for Bell, or anyone for that matter. Unlike some ppl on this board I dont have a problem admitting when my team is not as superior as another team. I support my team allllllll the way, but I am not a homer by any means.
