Great hard fought game by both teams. 10 more seconds and Pineville would have came out on top, it was just one of those games. James Strange played the best game I've ever seen him play. The freshman really took the Mountain Lions on his back but when he got in foul trouble and eventually fouled out it really did the Mountain Lions in. This was the first time I had got to watch Clay and their physical type of play really did a number on this young Pineville team. Congrats to Clay Co. on coming out the winners in a great game, and for Pineville just take it out on J. Frank White.

It was a fun game to watch, back and forth all night. One of those games where you could say the last team with the ball wins. The way Clay quarterback Lewis connected with Hobbs down the sideline with 2 seconds to go might make Hobbs consider going out for receiver next year. Pineville has some very good shooters and a solid big man inside. 13th region tourney will be fun to watch.

Wished I'd been there to witness, but a nice win for what I've been hearing a tough Clay team.

Wished I could have been there. The Tiger's showed heart by comingback. They sounded like the team from the first of the year that would come out hot early and try to make everything back up late in the 4th. What did Coach Gray do to get the T? Good win Tigers, get ready for Friday night.

This was a great game to watch. I drove down from Booneville to take it in because I had seen Pineville play at OBI in the All 'A' and was really impressed with their team, particularly their 6'6 sophomore center, Dustin Day.

 

I felt Pineville had several chances to win this game, but a few turnovers and mistakes in crucial situations cost them:

 

*At at the end of the third quarter. Pineville held a 52-45 lead and had the ball, but took an ill-advised baseline shot with 6 seconds on the clock, too much time imo for that type of shot. Clay rebounded and rushed down the floor for a basket and free throw to cut the lead tp 52-48.

 

*Trailing by 3 in the 4th quarter Pineville stole the ball and then missed a wide open layup, plus fouled Clay on the rebound, which sent them to the line for free throws.

 

*Still down by 3 late in the 4th, the Pineville guard dribbled the ball off his foot and turned it back over to Clay, not getting a shot off.

 

*I felt Pineville center, Day, who they MUST have in the game to compete imo, picked up at least a couple of iffy/nit-picky fouls from the officials. He sat out the end of the 2nd quarter and a huge chunk of the 3rd. When he left the game I believe the Mt. Lions were up by 7. When he returned they were down 3.

 

*Pineville's Hensley hit a 3 as time ran out to tie the game, but the officials made the clockkeeper add 2 seconds to the clock because they said Clay called timeout as the ball went through the net. Everything happened really fast, so I'm not certain, but it appeared to me that the kid shot the ball with about 3 seconds left. Personally I don't know how 2 seconds could have been on the clock when the ball went through the net, but I could be wrong. Anyway, 2 seconds was enough for a long pass and a 22 foot trey by Clay to win the game at the buzzer. A VERY exciting finish to a great game. :thumb:

 

I will say one thing, Pineville has some of the best supportive fans I've seen in a long time. They really get into the game. The adults were louder and cheering more than the students....usually it's just the opposite

*I was also at the game. You must admit that even though Day may have picked up a couple of "iffy/nit-picky" fouls he also got away with some obvious fouls. Imo it was a poorly officiated game on both sides.

 

*I thought the clock showed 4.9 when Hensley took the shot. I didn't see the timeout called but if it was called when the ball went through the net it was probably closer to 3 seconds than 2.

 

* One of the most enjoyable games I've watched in a long time.

I agree Skinpig, it was an exciting game. And there was a good crowd too.

 

I also agree, the officials were very inconsistant, and missed a lot of calls or sometimes a no-call that should have been called. I don't think either coach was happy with the officiating.
