  1. I am not sure on Goins status. But I would assume with a broke wrist he will be out the duration of the post season. I agree, it is about matchups. However, I still dont see how this helps P'ville. If Bell can beat Barbourville, who is one of the biggerl teams in the region, without Goins, I think they could play with P'ville too. Bell is riding high on confidence right now, and I dont see how anyone could argue that they wouldnt be the favorite in a Bell-P'ville matchup. Irregardless, I hope they meet. That will put all the talk to rest and let us know who the big dog (or should I say cat) in Bell County is. :thumb:
  2. I totally agree...... Cawood is in the mix, just like any of the top 10 teams.
  3. Excuses excuses. The key is that they lost and Bell won. Sure...... we all know that game involving the #2-8 teams could go either way and I am by no means saying that P'ville doesnt stand a chance. But based off the W-L results in comparing Bell's games against Barbourville/Clay and P'ville's games against Barbourville/Clay, Bell has proven that they can win the big game, something Pineville hasnt proved. This is irregardless of final score, injuries, time of season, etc etc etc.
  4. Maybe...... maybe not! Hopefully Bell and P'ville get to meet head to head. Like I have said before, I think it would be a great game, and could go either way. But with the way Bell is playing right now, and the fact that Bell has traditionally dominated P'ville, I would say Bell would be the clear favorite.
  5. Cawood beat Bell 66-60 in a game in December at the very beginning of the season. As a matter of fact it was the 4th game of the season. That loss was later avenged on January 27th, less then a month ago, with a 64-60 win for Bell. The same scenario is true of Cawood's win against Barbourville at the beginning of the season, which Barbourville avenged just last week. Also, Cawood's win against Corbin was at the very beginning of the season. However, I agree. Cawood deserves mentioning, and is arguably a top 5 team, just like about 7 other teams. I just think the argument that they beat #2 and #5 is weak, because those wins came EARLY EARLY in the season, and 2 of those wins have been avenged by the teams they beat.
  6. According to the stat line it looks like South Laurel outplayed Boyle, but just couldnt get their shots to fall, something Boyle Co. did do. SL outrebounded Boyle, and forced Boyle into 18 turnovers. However, SL shot 27% and Boyle shot 58%, despite the fact SL took nearly twice as many shots as Boyle. 14-51 from the field and 5-26 from 3 point range is HORRID!!! Obviously SL shot very poorly (air balling a few), and from the reports I got, they made some very poor shooting decisions. Very bad offensive night for SL. Give the Boyle defense credit, but when you live by the 3 you die by the 3. Looks to me like SL should have stuck with the inside game more. Allen had 14 and Smith had 11. Don't know why they didnt try to go inside more if it was working, instead of throwing up shots that werent going in. Over 1/2 of SL's total field goal attempts were 3 point shots, yet you have a Mr. Basketball candidate and 6'8 Trey Smith who has been playing extremely well as of late in the middle. I know Boyle's Staed (6'9) was there in the middle too, but shoot. Also heard that SL looked very laxed, almost like they thought Boyle would give them the game. I agree with JayRaySL in that SL is probably 15-20 pts better then any team in the 13th, and maybe even Boyle, but the actual team thinks this as well, and that is a HUGE PROBLEM for Wright! Boyle obviously wanted it more then SL, and this is obvious in the fact that SL had numerous chances to win the ball game in the final minutes and didnt capitalize on any of them. Sounds like Wright has his work cut out if he is going to get SL to stop thinking their poopy doesnt stink and start playing ball like they are capable!!! Hopefully this is the wakeup call SL needs and they can get it together. Better to take a loss like this now, then in the district or region.
  7. I dont know about that. LOL When SL is on they are extremely hard to beat. But Boyle proved last night, that when they are off, they are very beatable. I am not taking anything from Boyle, because the reason SL was off was because of Boyle. I think this loss helps the Cards. This is exactly what they need heading into district and regional play to motivate them. They get to face the Bobcats of Bell on Thursday, and I think we will be able to tell more about this loss after that game. Good job Boyle. Learn from this loss, and pick up your game Cards! :thumb:
  8. I think it does. But those 2 losses to B'ville and their loss to Clay just really stick out like a sore thumb. Especially when Bell has beat both of those teams in the last month.
  9. After last night, and considering the season as a whole: 1.) SL - still the team to beat in the 13th despite there upset loss to Boyle 2.) Bell Co. - playing extremely well right now with an 8 game win streak, and they have defeated both Clay and Barbourville in the last month, doing all this with key injuries 3.) Clay Co. - after a win against Corbin they remain the #3 team 4.) NL 5a.) Barbourville 5b.) Corbin 7.) Pineville In all honesty...... I think Corbin could be #5, but I just didnt think Barbourville losing to Bell meant they should drop from #2 to #6, not to mention Corbin just lost to Clay last week. I think Barbourville has peaked too soon, and Corbin is the defending regional champs, and are very solid when they are clicking. Because of this dilemma I took the easy way out and listed Barbourville and Corbin as #5a and #5b. NL is starting to get things in line and should reenter the top 5 IMO. Corbin is just barley not in. Pineville, IMO, despite their turn-around season is overrated, and although they could COMPETE with the top 5, I dont think they could WIN against any of them. However, 2-7 are all interchangeable and anything could happen, so of course, I could be wrong about P'ville.
  10. I agree Bell should be #2, but I think your logic is faulty, even though it makes a decent case.
  11. First its let em play Clay. Then its let em play B'ville. Now its let em play North! Come on. Sad thing is...... they probably wont play North unless its in the region. They do get to play SL though, but SL is coming off a huge upset loss and will probably be ready to prove they are still the team to beat in the 13th. Bell will either make it a close game, and maybe pull the upset (which I doubt), or SL will make it ugly (the more likely scenario). Either way...... how is Bell not a possible #2. They have just recently beat the #2 and #3 teams. Not to mention they are playing extremely well right now with an 8 game win streak. Sure North has won 2 games recently, one against Rock and one against Pulaski. However, Bell beat that same Pulaski team just recently as well. If you are telling me North is the #2 team once again, be default due to Clay and Barbourville's losses, then that's crazy. I mean...... I am skeptical at putting Bell in the #2 spot as well. On paper they probably arent the #2 team. But IMO they have earned it where it matters, ON THE COURT!
  12. LOL....... you are a prophet I guess. I wasnt so sure when you said that. But after knocking off what has been the #2 and #3 teams for almost the entire season, I think you are right. They make a good case. :thumb:
  13. Thursday at South Laurel at 6:00 pm according to the KHSAA website.
  14. WOW! :jump: Didnt get to watch this one, but a 13 point win against the #2 team in the region. I think they managed this one without the help of Trey Goins which is even more impressive. This win comes after a convincing win against Knox and a huge win against #3 Clay. Bell is riding something like a 8 game win streak going into their game against the #1 team in the region. That game is at South Laurel and not sure my Bobcats have it in them, but they are definantly playing "big time" right now. So....... Les........ are the Bobcats top 5 yet???? They may be making a case for being the #2 team in the region!!! I will have to make the trip to Laurel to watch the Cards and Bobcats duke it out! :fight: Nice win Bobcats!
  15. SL shot terribly (especially from 3 land), but Boyle played very well and deserved the win. The big guy for Boyle apparently had a great game from the reports I have heard. Hopefully this provides a wake up call for the Cards and they can get it together heading into the district, region, and hopefully state tourney!!! I think, as good as this loss may look to some of the regions top teams, I think (hopefully) it will have the opposite effect and make SL MADDDDD and help them to turn up the heat!!!
  16. I believe he is a junior, but I could be mistaken. Bell still came away with a convincing win over Knox Central, despite Goins missing much of the second half. However, Goins played very well and the game was pretty much wrapped up by the time he got hurt. Against the tougher teams in the region he will be sorely missed.
  17. The good new for Bell is that Whitaker is back and healthy. The bad news for Bell is that they lost Trey Goins to a broken wrist against Knox Central last Friday night. Goins has really stepped it up for Bell and his presence will be sorely missed.
  18. That is true. 2-8 there is alot of parity. I still see Barbourville and Clay as the clear #2 and #3.
  19. WOW. I am as big a Bell fan as any, but even I wouldnt try to touch that. I think they deserve mentioning as being a top 5 team, but I wouldnt go so far as saying they are a possible top 2. I would rank Bell no higher then 4 or 5.
  20. I meant regional, my mistake. I did mention Brent Slusher's absence. Buckeye, as great as an athlete as he was, could be and has been replaced, especially with the emergence of Trey Goins (although he was injured against Knox, so that hurts Bell). You are right about Helton though, that was a big loss, and one I did not account for. Bell really lost 2 players that mattered from last seasons team, Slusher and Helton. Although it could be said that with Helton gone Bell is a much better TEAM, because IMO Helton did hurt Bell at times with selfish shooting and poor attitude. Nevertheless, my point remains. To say that P'ville is the ABSOLUTE better team of the two is a very inaccurate statement.
  21. Terrible comparison. Can I get this in writing, so when the district tourney is over I can get another good laugh. Bell would beat P'ville in a tight game IMO. But I agree, it could go either way. I'm glad you have some since there. SL will beat Corbin in the district tourney, plain and simple. IMO it may be the worse beating SL has gave Corbin in quite some time.
