  1. May be true...... but I doubt any other 14th region team would have faired any better against MC.
  2. I noticed that too. Their crowd was huge. Guess 1/2 of Madison Co. shut down.
  3. Semantics yes........ but the IDEA behind the semantics is the key point I am making. I think the KHSAA and those small schools would call that team the state champ, but that would be about it. That attitude toward that Small School State Championship would remain the same as the attitude toward the All A Classic champion. As far as football goes....... they dont cry because they cant win the "STATE" championship because the gap between those 4 state champions is minimal in most years. However the gap between the Small School Basketball Champ and the Big School Basketball Champ would be HUGE in most cases. I thought I already explained this.
  4. True.... I was just saying to claim that because the KHSAA would recognize a Small School Championship would mean nothing if the state of KY and the ppl involved in the athletics didnt accept it. If the only schools that look at the All A classic as a state championship are single A schools, then I would think that that attitude wouldnt change just because the KHSAA says so.
  5. On the bolded..... I dont think so my friend. It seems more hypocritical to me to call oneself "STATE" champion when one didnt have to compete against everyone in the state to get that title. Call yourself State Class X champion all you want (like in football), but to say that you are "STATE" Champion...... no. I will even concede to you and say...... sure, lets classify basketball into 2 classes. Lets have a district, region, and small/big school champion. I still think you would need to do just like I think they should in football and pair those teams up and crown a "STATE" Champion. What will the small schools do then...... cry because they cant win the "STATE" Championship.
  6. And "OUR governing body of HS athletics" is the cream of the crop isnt it. They are ALMOST held in as high regard...... but not quite. Not to mention there is a very large gap between your ALL A champion, or whoever would win the small school championship, and your Sweet 16 champion, or whoever would win the big school championship. Whereas there isnt as big a gap, although a considerable gap, between lets say your 1A football champion and your 4A football champion. There is almost no gap between your 2A football champion and your 3A football champion, and only a small gap between your 3A and 4A football champions. This is why you would have this attitude of the Small School champion not being a "real champion" whereass in football you dont have this attitude as much. I mean look at the example you gave of the All A classic. Sure the KHSAA would recognize the Small School Tourney winner as champion, but that would be about it.
  7. First off me saying that I didnt want a diluted state championship was a statement made "in theory". I said that I would rather have 1 champion over a diluted state champion, but that isnt the case. Just because I think that the footall state championship is somewhat dilluted because you have 4 state champions instead of 1 doesnt mean that I cant want my team to win one. I can think that there needs to be 1 state champion crowned and still want my team to win 1 of 4 state championships and still be consistent. These to desires are not incongruent. That is neither hypocritical or lack of understanding. To say that, because I think the state championship is somewhat diluted that I should not care at all how my team performs in quest for that title, is ridiculous.
  8. On the bolded..... Who would recognize a Small School State Champion...... only the small schools. You would have the big schools saying that they arent real champions because they didnt compete against the BEST TEAMS.
  9. They would be more deserving because they are the BETTER TEAMS, regardless of the reason as long as they arent cheating. If every hard working team in the state deserves a championship then just name every team a state champion.
  10. You are totally correct....... there is no such thing as ChampioNS except district and region champions. STATE ChampioN should be a singular title IMO. I consider Trinity the KY HS CLASS 4A Football Champion I consider Lex Cath the KY HS CLASS 3A Football Champion etc etc etc Like I said..... I would love to see a KY HS Football Champion crowned. I will consider who ever wins the Sweet 16 "the" KY HS Boys Basketball State Champion. Sure a class system is neccessary in football, and MAYBE in basketball. Either way I still think you would need to pair those teams up and have ONE CHAMPION, just like in college and pro sports. In that case you would have a district champion, region champion, class champion, and 1 state champion.
  11. Ohhhh sooo that is what this is about. LOL. Big difference...... at that time we were talking CHEATING. Right now we are talking a Class System. You are right..... I would have loved for Bell to have won one of the 4 state championships. That doesnt change the fact that I would love to see those 4state champions paired up so that we could crown an All Out Champion. Your mentioning of the Mike Mitchell case and my stance on it has no bearing on this debate at all.
  12. You are right I edited it....... but before I read your post. If you doubt me then go back to the football debate we had about this. I was backing a system that paired up the 4 state champions so that an All Out Champion could be crowned.
  13. I never said it was fair. What I did say was it ensured the validity of whoever wins the championship as deserving of that championship. Sure it sucks for the small schools and the public schools, but that is why a championship is soooooo special, because it is soooooo hard to achieve. For the record I am from an extremely small 3A public school, bordering 2A enrollment. My school has seen 1 football championship, and no basketball championships.
  14. I hate repeatin myself. Like I said..... pair those teams up. Have a mini playoff. Crown an All Out Football Champion.
  15. I also said that those classes in football need to be paired up in a tourney so that we could crown an All Out Football Champion. If you classify in basketball, fine. But I would say the same thing about the basketball classes. Pair them up and let them play a mini tourney so that we could crown an All Out Basketball Champion. I am not a hypocrite my friend. Read the whole post.
  16. I personally wouldnt want to win a HS championship that was watered down by a class system that made it that much easier for me to do so. Can you really claim to be the KY HS champion when there are 4 or 5 other champions as well.
  17. Debates like this drive me crazy. The small schools cant compete with the big schools. The public schools cant compete with the private schools. Blah blah blah blah. I understand the numbers game that goes on in both of these debates, but IMO it doesnt matter. If you change it up then all you do is water down the validity of the championships that these smaller schools and public schools will be winning because the level of competition will be watered down. Sure its tough for small schools to compete in basketball and public schools to compete in football, but that is why it is so special when one of these schools can make it all the way and win it all. In football I can understand the need for a 1a, 2a, 3a, 4a classification, but in basketball. Comeon. I would even like to see the champion of 1a 2a 3a and 4a in football square of in a minature tourney so that we could crown an All Out Football Champion.
  18. I agree on the bolded comment. I said earlier in the year when Madison beat SL that Madison was highly underrated and was a top 25 team that would make some noise come March. They are pretty athletic and can do alot of different things. I'm not so sure they will get past PRP, but its bound to be a good game.
  19. Hope you are right. They still have to play a Graves team that could give them trouble, but I think they will end up winning. Then they will have an extremely difficult semifinal matchup up against Shelby or Jefferson. I didnt get to watch Shelby play, but a close friend of mine said they may have been the most impressive team in the first round.
  20. Ohhhhhhh there you are westsider. LOL. Maybe so...... but its still pretty funny that both Mason and Madison win their respective regions, 2 of the tougher regions in the state. And now they have the chance to make it to the state tourney final 4. They may not have been playing well at the time, but anyone with a good "basketball mind" could have seen that those 2 teams were very good, TOP 25 teams (actually top 8 at this point), and it was only a matter of time for them to start playing their best basketball. Get over it, and admit you were wrong for once. I know its hard for you to do. :thumb:
  21. PRP looked very good tonight. Madison Central won big put didnt look as impressive as PRP IMO. I heard from a very good source that Shelby Co looked extremely good, and could be the team to beat. I don't remember who I was debating with earlier in the year, but it was about South Laurel's strength of schedule. I made a reference to Madison Central and Mason Co. about how good both teams were, and that they were underrated and really helped SL's strength of schedule. I was hammered by a particular poster for my comments. Looks like Mason and Madison are looking very good at this point. Hehehehehe. I guess hind sight is 20/20, but I just love being right!!!
  22. I agree. IMO it will not be Proffitt or Hammonds that holds the key to how good SL will be next year, it will be Smith. SL has depended on Allen for the last 2 years. If SL is to continue being dominant next season, Smith has to get bigger and stronger and make his presence known more in the post. He can shoot the lights out with mid range jumpers and treys. He can, when he wants to, slash to the basket as Jim Schue pointed out. He just needs to do that more often, and then get a little stronger so he can bang around in the paint.
