  1. Gotcha. However last season he balled out, and he didnt play a bad first game.
  2. I think level of competition should be factored in. I mean in order to be the best dont you have to play against the best.
  3. LOL...... WOW ..... its a small world. I was absolutely in Clearwater. From Saturday to Wed. Had to take a lil vacation for spring break. I was there with my girlfriend and her family, and I was at the IHOP every morning. Great breakfast.
  4. Proffitt is 6'3 Allen is 6'4..... 6'5 at the most
  5. :thumb: As gracious in losing as he is in winning. That is the true definition of a sportsman.
  6. He doesnt have to be the best player in the state. He doesnt even have to look good playing. He just has to be the best HS senior in the state.
  7. That makes completely no logical sense. You can be the best SENIOR in the state, but not neccessarily have the best senior season. If it was a one year award then, logically, the award would go to any grade player who had the best season that year. I know in other states it is like that and several players win Mr. Basketball several times. Just because it goes to ONLY seniors doesnt mean it is a one year award based on someones senior season, it just means you have to be a senior to win it. To say that the vote should not take into consideration a players entire career, yet the award goes only to seniors, is nuts. I would think that the reason the award goes only to seniors is because it allows a player to play his entire career, and then a good choice can me made. You are telling me that a player starts 4 years on a great team and is unbelievable...... and then another player comes out of nowhere his senior year, has an equally impressive senior season that is just a tad bit better then the 4 year starter........ and the player that came out of nowhere wins the award. I dont care if you have a vote or not..... that is crazy.
  8. Programs have a tendency to do that. Trey Smith is absolutely 6'9 and Allen is 6'4, I never said he wasnt. I even said he might be 6'5. Proffitt and Hammonds are both 6'3. Hammonds might be 6'4, but I doubt it. I have stood next to both of those boys and at 6'1 they arent much taller than myself. About 2 inches.
  9. Proffitt is 6'3, and I wouldnt call him a hot dog. He is very much an ice man. Hammonds is 6'3 Allen is 6'4, maybe 6'5 The coaching staff stays out of that normally, as they should. It should be student led....... but I know Wright has no problem with it, and probably encourages it.
  10. There may be a few other players JUST AS deserving...... but to say that Walt Allen ISNT deserving or IS LESS deserving blows my mind. As far as the comment that Allen would have won the award last year, but not this year. That makes no sense. Mr. Basketball isnt a yearly award..... if it was it would go to any player of any age. Just because Allen was more impressive last year then this year doesnt mean he isnt deserving. He still had a heck of a seaon this year. The sad thing is that most ppl will only remember his last game in which he performed badly.
  11. bballfan42...... I agree...... some criterion needs to be laid out. As far as the title only going to teams in the sweet 16........ I would say no, because you can still be a top team in the state all season long and not make the tourney. Scott Co. for example.
  12. You criticize me for not interpreting your opinion of Mr. Allen correctly..... but you might want to go back and read your last post. Now see if you can follow me here. I will go as slow as possible. 1.) In point 2 of your last post you state that your opinion is, as I stated, "That Allen isn't Mr. Basketball material," and that that has been your opinion even before the Graves game. You dont explicitly state that Allen isn't Mr. Basketball material, but by recognizing this through my statement as your opinion, and then stating that you stand by this opinion, you have in essence, said that your opinion is that Mr. Allen isn't Mr. Basketball material. 2.) Then in point 3 of your post you go on to say that my assessment of your opinion, which is that "Allen isn't a serious candidate and doesnt deserve mentioning," isnt correct and that you have never said that. 3.) Yet in point 2 you state that your opinion is, as I stated, that "Allen isn't Mr. Basketball material." (See point 1 of this thread to understand how you said this) 4.) Please explain to me how saying your opinion that "Allen isn't Mr. Basketball material" is any different from saying that "Mr. Allen isn't a serious candidate and doesnt deserve mentioning." Its funny you think Allen isnt Mr. Basketball material, but about 90% of the state does. Your opinion may be that Allen isnt Mr. Basketball material, but its a bad opinion, especially if you base it upon 1 game. That opinion may have been your opinion the whole time, but up until now you have had no real reason to think that. He plays one bad game and you think your opinion is proved correct. Please Also.....You are right..... it is about the thread is about the Graves game....... Allen played in the game, and if you want to criticize Allen about his performance, then go right ahead ...... if you want to go so far as to say he isnt Mr. Basketball material then save it for the Mr. Basketball thread.
  13. South Laurel will be loaded again. They lose Walt Allen, but they return the core of their team with Ty Proffitt, Trey Smith, Jordan Hammonds, and a plethora of talented subs returning. They need 3 players to step up, but I think with Wright as their coach they can definantly find 3 players.
  14. Just some observations about criterion for the Mr. Basketball award...... You took that term Mr. Basketball, and emphasized the MR. to say that it was ONLY an individual award. However you ignored the BASKETBALL part which would lead one to believe that although the award goes to an individual, it should not be ignored how well his team performed and how well he performed on that team! The best basketball player in the state may very well be a player who plays on a terrible team, gets no press or hype, and therefore doesnt even get mentioned for the award. It is a given therefore that Mr. Basketball will go to a player who plays on a top team and plays well on that top team. Also, it seems obvious to me that since the award is only given to seniors that it isnt based on who had the best single season (this includes best senior season), but who had the best career over 4 years. If it was the case that the award went to the player who had the best single season that year, then the award should technically go to any year player, and not just seniors. Another observation is that although stats are important, they arent the primary criterion for Mr. Basketball. If stats were the single criterion then Stuart Miller deserves mentioning, and should probably win the award. Also, although college potential is important, it isnt the primary criterion for Mr. Basketball. If it was then the #1 college recruit out of the state would win the award every year. Athletic ability also isnt the primary criterion..... or the player who could jump the highest or run the fastest would win the award each year. For me the key is that the award is a HIGH SCHOOL award....... and therefore should be given to the player who has had the best high school career. Now what determines "the best high school career" can vary...... but its obviously a combination of all the above mentioned things. Also..... I think its important to note that Mr. Basketball doesnt neccessarily have to go to the best basketball player. Just the player who played the best in high school
  15. So I guess we should base Mr. Basketball on the comparison of 1 game. Cavette didnt dominate Allen. Graves did not play a man to man defense with Cavette guarding Allen. Graves entire team contained Allen very good, but the big reason Allen didnt play well had less to do with Graves defense and more to do with the fact that, for some reason, he didnt show up. He missed several free throws and wide open lay ups, which is completely uncharacteristic of him. All that is besides the point. If we are going to give Mr. Basketball award based on 1 game then I think it should be a game MVP award.
  16. I never said I wasnt taking it personally. I dont mind your opinion. You are entitled to think what you would like. However, it does bother me that instead of just stating your opinion about who you think should win Mr. Basketball on a Mr. Basketball thread, you go out of your way to hijack a thread that isnt even about Mr. Basketball, and then proceed to kick a kid who is already down after the worst peformance of his career. You then state that because of 1 poor performance he isnt Mr. Basketball material..... like a HS kid cant play 1 bad game. I guess Slaughter or whoever you think should win it has NEVER had a bad game. You refuse to acknowledge the great career Allen has had and the fact that Allen is a "serious" candidate, and instead you act like his name shouldnt even be mentioned. Like I said........ its gonna be great day when Mr. Allen steps onto the court representing OUR state as Mr. Basketball, has the #1 jersey on, and lays about 20+ on Indiana. I imagine when Allen does this, I will have the same feeling towards you that I had when Madison Central and Mason made it to the Elite 8. 2 teams that according to you, werent any good. Have a nice day!
  17.   I really hope he is wearing that #1 jersey, and I hope he scores about 30 against Indiana so you will finally shut up your endless babble about how Allen isnt a deserving Mr. Basketball candidate. I hear crying from my baby cousin...... its ashame I have to hear it from a BGP poster.
  18. We have had this debate before. Mr. Basketball has nothing to do with college potential or athleticism. It has nothing to do with stats. It has to do with being the best High Schoolbasketball player in the state. All 3 of those things may or may not be a reflection of whether you are the best HS player in the state. I think all 3 of those things (athletic ability, college potential, stats) are important to being a great basketball player; but you can have all 3 of those and not be the best High School basketball player. On the other hand, you can have little of all 3 of those, and still be a great High School basketball player. Slaughter is great, and a deserving candidate. He is obviously the superior athlete when compared to Allen, has more college potential then Allen, and may have better stats (not sure). Allen however IMO is the better HS basketball player. #1 reason why.......... he has played extremely well on the biggest stage against the best competition, as well as won the biggest game on the biggest stage in KY HS basketball. He was "the" key contributor in that run. #2 reason why........ he has had an unbelievable career and his leadership and basketball ability are a huge reason why South Laurel has made its climb into the upper echelon of KY HS basketball. #3 reason why.......... he is the MVP of one of the states best teams. No one has meant more to their team then Allen has meant to SL. Sure some ppl will argue that Allen doesnt mean that much to SL. However, if you take Allen off of SL's team last season they dont win a championship. You take Allen off of SL's team this season they probably dont even make it to the big dance.
