  1. I will totally agree that a big reason he won this award was becuz of his Sweet 16 performance last season. But to say that his senior season was a flop, or that he isnt deserving is just funny. I know you arent saying that..... but a few have, and its laughable.
  2. Thats cool. Your point being? Allen was the top vote getter for the Mr. Basketball award voted on by the coaches.
  3. I'm chilled. Just really bothers me how some ppl act like the kid cant play at all. I mean I can understand if you dont think he is the best. But at the very least give the kid his credit. My last few posts were not neccessarily directed just at you, as much as to a few others who have denied Allen the credit he deserves.
  4. First off.....This award shouldnt go to the best basketball player..... it should go to the best highschool basketball player. There may be some players who will have better college careers then Walt, but none had has great a highschool career as Mr. Allen. I mean just look at what he accomplished. Mr. Allen knows how to play the game and play it with class. He may not be 6'9 and can dunk like a mad man or shoot the lights out, but he plays the game the way it is supposed to be played, and he meant more to SL then alot of ppl realize. Secondly....So are you saying that Walt Allen had the best politician in Wright. I mean comeon....... the other kids had their coaches pushing them too. I totally understand the politics of this whole deal, but that isnt why he won the award. Every other coach who had a Mr. Basketball candidate was doing the same thing. By the way..... who votes for this award? Oh yeah.... that state coaches! I would think they know more then any of us on this board. If Allen is good enough for them, then he is good enough for me.
  5. LOL. I was wonderin when you would be commenting. Maybe that minority opinion isnt wrong. Then again maybe it is. I would think 2 POY awards, 1st team All State honors, State Tourney MVP, a State Championship Ring, and a Mr. Basketball award would say that the minority opinion is completely wrong. :sssh: I mean give the kid some credit. Not only does he have all that to boast, but he is an A+ student and person, as well as a true leader on and off the court. There is no one more deserving to represent our state as Mr. Basketball then Walt. Walt was the best HIGHSCHOOL basketball player in the state, all things considered. For anyone who STILL wants to deny that...... well that is exactly what they are in..... denial. You are right though...... everyone is entitled to their opinion, regardless of how ill supported it might be.
  6. I guess these kind of comments will never stop!! Get over it.... Walt may not be the best "basketball" player, but he has the hardware to prove he is the best "highschool basketball" player, emphasis on HIGHSCHOOL. Mr. Basketball is a HIGHSCHOOL award! Walt won it. End of story! I find it funny how many ppl on these boards think they know soooo much more.... yet this kid has 2 POY awards and a Mr. Basketball award. I guess whoever votes for these awards must be complete basketball idiots. Congrats Walt! Not a more deserving candidate! :thumb:
  7. You werent one of the many who said the same thing about Walt Allen are ya? :sssh: JK..... I didnt mean this as any kind of attack. Just playing around and poking at all the Allen doubters. They dont seem to be posting as much since Allen has taken home 2 POY awards and a Mr. Basketball title.
  8. I wasnt...... just saying I'd rather see Bell in the semi game against the almighty Highlands then to see Rock in the semis over Bell any year. I too look forward to a Bell Rock region game....... most likely the championship. It seems Bell has had alot of trouble in the past 6 years or so beating the Rock in the region tourney so I hope this is the year that changes.
  9. I wouldnt mind seeing a Bell-Highlands semifinal again. Better then a Rock-Lex Cath final like we saw this past season!
  10. They have another thing going for them. Both of them return nearly their ENTIRE team.
  11. I think Rockcastle or Bell Co could make an argument to be included in that list. Both squads return a ton of talent!
  12. If the best teams arent in the tourney then the only ppl that can be held responsible are those supposed "best teams." Teams that are supposedly "better" or "the best" should beat the teams that are winning the regions and getting to the Sweet 16, then they will make it to the tourney and it will be a better tournament. I mean think about it. What teams at the tourney this year werent that good? You had 16 teams. Russell Graves South Laurel John Hardin Johnson Central Jefferson Town Shelby Co Christian Co Warren Central Mason Co Apollo Cov Cath Hazard Madison Central Boyle Co PRP Out of the 16.....7 are ranked in the BGP top 20. That doesnt include Madison Central, who had to win a region 11 that included 4 BGP top 20 teams (Henry Clay, Scott Co, Lex Cath, Bryan Station), and was a top 25 team themselves at seasons end according to several other rankings. That doesnt include a tough Mason Co team, who had to win a region that included BGP top 20 team Pendelton Co. That doesnt include Apollo and Graves, two very solid teams that, although not ranked, proved they deserved to be there and could play with the best. So technically, according to the rankings, you had 8 top 25 teams, 3 solid ball clubs that could play with anyone, and 5 weaker teams. The only teams that one could consider weak, or that had an easy road or weak region would be Hazard, Johnson Central, Russell, Christian Co, and Boyle. I would say Graves, but we saw what Graves could do, and you have to give Boyle some credit. They were a team that was hot at the time, just not athletic enough to compete on that big a stage. My point is this. The teams that get to the region may not be the most talented teams in the state, but they are the teams that are playing the best basketball at the time (except for the traditional weak regions, which is only 4 or 5 out of 16). It may be a boring brand of basketball that doesnt include high flying dunks, fast breaks, and 80 points, but it is winning basketball.
  13. You make some nice points, but........ In case you didnt notice, the teams in the Sweet 16 dont get invited. They EARN their way there. Every team in the state has a chance to get to the state tourney, but they must do so on the court. That is the beautiful thing about the Sweet 16, or any playoff system. It isnt about who we think is the best team, or what team looks the best on paper. Its about which team proves it on the court.
  14. As it is now, how many teams do make the KHSAA postseason. This would include the regional tournament, which eventually wittles down to the Sweet 16. How many districts are there in KY HS bball multiplied by 2? That would give us the answer wouldnt it?
  15. There is an article on cardinalsports.com about Millers committment. However, you have to be a member of the Rivals.com network in order to view it.
  16. I would agree. I was simply giving whoever made out the program the benefit of the doubt. LOL.
  17. Totally agree. I think I even recommended that earlier. The Mr. Basketball thread is not here.
  18. I never said his opinion was irrelevant..... I said that the fact that his opinion coincides with you opinion doesnt make you dead on accurate anymore then if my opinion is coincided with someone elses. Just because you agree with what someone says doesnt mean they are dead on accurate. You also characterized them as NOT top 25. I think they proved they were.
  19. Miller has indeed verballed to UofL as a preferred walk-on. Congrats to a great shooter and a great athlete. Good luck at the next level, and make the most of a once in a lifetime oppurtunity that few get, and many dream of.
  20. I'm 6'1 and Proffitt is absolutely taller then me. Like I said before...... 6'3, but no more. More realistically 6'2 and then some.
  21. Also.... congrats to Mr. Allen. He continues to silence all his critics.
  22. I have stood side by side next to all 3. Proffitt is 6'3, but no taller. Allen is 6'5, at the most. Hammonds is around 6'4. He is a little taller then Proffitt, but not 2 inches. It may look like it, but he isnt.
  23. I have watched both Allen and Slaughter, and considering this debate is about them, thats the only 2 I need to have watched. I am really not taking it personal...... it just blows my mind how ppl refuse to give Allen the props he deserves, and it seems that its primarily because he isnt the best athlete or college recruit. Westsider may have seen a million games..... that is essentially irrelevant considering I know plenty of ppl that have seen more basketball then I have but don't know diddly. I have also known ppl who have watched less basketball and know a ton. Just because you think he is dead on accurate because you agree with his opinions is also irrelevant. He wasnt too dead on accurate about Mason Co. or Madison Central.
  24. I'd have to agree. What makes Allen a great player cant neccessarily be found in a stat line or game report. Hustle, heart, leadership, sportsmanship........ all these things Allen is the best in, and too say that they dont count when considering who is the best basketball player really shows us why sports is in a decline. The best player isnt always the guy who can shoot the best, or handle the ball the best, or etc etc etc.
