  1. This is exactly the kind of team that I feel will give my Devils a fit. Strong passing game with a running threat. I don't think they will stop us from getting our points, but our secondary has proven it cannot stop the big pass play either. Someone posted that it will be won by the team that has the football at the end of the 4th. I tend to agree. Good Luck Devils!
  2. Congrats to Raceland for the win on the road!
  3. I knew GC would have trouble containing Thomas. Congrats Tomcats on the win. And yes, it should be enough to get them into the top slot of Super Seven!
  4. Okay, but the two picks were thrown right to them. And yes, Mason Co. will eat us alive if this secondary does not get alot better in one week.
  5. Yes. It was just a soft grounder to the front row.
  6. Congrats to both teams! Great game to watch, but Russell has to step up and stop the long pass. Where was the secondary tonite? This SK team was one dimensional and we still couldn't stop the big play. Their QB was excellent and they had a real receiver in #19. Morris has a lot of work to do if we are to go very deep in the playoffs. Mason Co. will give us fits if we don't fix the pass defense. I thought we should have kicked deep also with 11 seconds on the clock. Why give it to them on the 50 yrd line?
  7. Does anyone know if Tyler is 100%?
  8. I don't doubt that the Musketeer team will play hard. But GC has no answer for a speedy, cut and slash runner the likes of Thomas. He will score early and often.
  9. I can't wait for this one to kick off. Other than the Ashland game, I think this one has the potential to be a true test of this Devil team. A slow, uninspired first quarter could be a problem though. Let's hope Ivan and staff make a point of that in practice this week.
  10. My point was to compare success vs failure. Success is a journey, not a destination.
  11. Noting the geography and history, there probably should have been an East Greenup Co High and a West Greenup Co high school, but that is water under the collective bridge. I'm sure it was all about the budget when the school merger was conceived. Now, the best example of why the lack of football success is not a problem with South Shore vs Wurtland is summed up by one name... Candy Berry. Candy Berry has accomplished more with the cheerleading program at GCHS than any other similar program in the state. She has multiple National championships, and a national reputation for being a top cheerleading program year in and year out. What's the difference you ask? Candy Berry leads that program like Vince Lombardi lead the Packers. No one has ever wondered who was in charge or what dedication it takes to be a member of that squad. There are no exceptions. If you cross the line or break a rule you're out. Period. End of discussion. The problem with this football team is a total lack of leadership from the top down. Get a decent coaching staff in there and see what happens. A strong coach can handle any parent situation. He simply states that it's his way or the highway. Your Jimmy or Joe is not important, the team is important. Get with the program, obey the team rules or get out. I would suggest that the AD go find himself another Candy Berry to lead the football program. Good Luck!
  12. That's the who. Now how about the Why?
  13. I wondered the same thing.
  14. You make a good point. It starts with the AD running the athletic programs for a school. Discipline and integrity starts at the top and goes down. Any program within a school's athletic dept. should be a reflection of the decison maker, i.e., the AD. It's his/her job to make sure that things are being done right within a dept. If not, he/she should make them right. I have personal friends with kids on this team and I know it has been miserable. GC has great folks who want to see the program thrive, but unfortunately, it is what it is; a total mess.
  15. Rams score early and often in this one.
  16. Ivan will not throttle this team with starters. Jv will get most of the reps in this one. The score will still be ugly though... Devils 48 LC 12
  17. I'm still not convinced that this Ashland team has the moxy to beat a better football team. Woodford takes this one.
  18. I stated earlier in the season that this GC team has more drama than a soap opera. It's all about team management and setting rules that everyone must live by. Players have to know what the consequnces are for their actions. A program's rules have to be set in stone; no exceptions. Unfortunatley, I think you have to put a fork in yet another year of Greenup Co. football. They're done. BC by two touchdowns.
  19. I would honestly rate this Russell squad as "above average". They have a dominant player in Jones and I really like the way Abrams is running and making his cuts. But overall, I don't think this team is as good as the last two years. As soon as they meet up with a team that has a strong run/pass threat I feel that it will be their undoing. The Mason Co. game should be a dandy. I would love to see them threepeat to the finals, but we will probably fall to a better overall defensive team. IMO, LC seemed to do better with #7 at QB late in the game rather than the Goldsmith kid.
