  1. 1. South: But only because of experience 2. North: Still think they will miss Sears when it comes crunch time. (The gap is closing, but is still pretty wide) 3. Corbin: Disagree with Hart building the program, like him or not, Gary Akins built it. Before him, it was a lower tier program, don't think they even had their own field. Hart has done good with it, but give credit where credit is due. SS that replaced Rogers was very impressive against M'boro. 4. Middlesboro: Yea their defense struggled against Corbin, Powers did leave the ball up in the zone some, but until HC or BC beats them in district, they deserve the 4 spot. 5. Harlan County: Les didn't give them any love on another post, but combining the Cumberland team led by Day and Pennington with the two young kids from Evarts(yea, Evarts), they will challenge for 3rd in the region. The best of the rest: Williamsburg (just to schedule North says something about Ellis), Clay(lack of a overpowering pitcher may hurt them in the long run), Bell(still say they're too young, Campbell did luck into a great job though, ton of young talent), in no particular order. Knox Central may surprise some people. Maybe...
  2. Take it easy pal, I said "I stand corrected"...:isurrender: LOL
  3. I agree with Jimison meaning a lot to the team, but the Powers kid is going to surprise some. If I'm wrong about the Corbin-SL game, I stand corrected. But I was thinking Justice was out with a shoulder injury (may have played, but don't think she pitched) and I thought they had the kid gone to the all-star b-ball tryouts (great player, but sorry, just can't remember her name, Wombles, maybe...). But I trust your info, I wasn't there just read the article and listened to others.
  4. I'd say $11,500 is good by current standards as well... And no, that doesn't include AD pay
  5. In my earlier reply I was meaning the joke about leaving HC out of the top teams. I doubt if you watched them last year, but if you did, you'd know what I was talking about. The Cumberland players combined with 2 very talented, young players from Evarts and a starter from Cawood will be very competitive. Plus rumor has it, there may be a surprise or two on the roster for HC as well. I completely agree there is a big gap between SL, NL and the rest of the region. I disagree about Corbin, the win over SL was a fluke at best. SL had several out with injuries and had two hurt early in that game. Corbin has the talent to compete, but... Most will be surprised by M'boro. Losing Jimison will hurt, but I don't think they will fall off that much. Powers has came a long way on the mound, if they can replace Jimison's bat, they should be fine.
  6. Was being sarcastic... Several players were more deserving, IMHO. Which, maybe there's a requirement about it going to a sr, most of the ones I'm thinking of are underclassmen.
  7. Neither team could score first half, both Sexton and Jackson had foul trouble in the 1st half. Phillips came on strong in the 2nd half. Thought it was odd Sexton didn't see much floor time in the 2nd half. Neither team loses much if anything. Nolan done a great job molding the Harlan County team, combining those 3 schools, with all of their individual history had to be a near-impossible job.
  8. Hospitality room is a joke!!! Hate to complain about free food, but you've got a lot of people (media, players, coaching staff, officials) who have to be there for the whole thing. They're having school food, LMAO! Everyone else has always had parents make stuff or have stuff donated, this year, it's literally school food. I really can't say for sure what they had a couple of nights. Beef Stew maybe??? Pinto Beans??? You'd think that they were paying for it outta their own pockets!!!!! W'burg was great, B'ville was good as well. Everything is split after expenses for the region though, and they're making a ton of money!!!!! Strongly suggest you stop before the game!!!! Little hamburger place called Engles on the right just before you get into P'ville is very good as well.
  9. Don't think M'boro can pull it off. That being said though, if M'boro can run the entire game, St. John's may hurt SL instead of help. Watched him against Corbin last week and he really struggled at times in transition. Should be a great game, SL by 5....maybe!!!!
  10. Anxious to watch the finals tonight. HC is a surprise team for sure, most thought South would be in the finals. Inside game should be interesting!!!! IMO Jackson from Clay is the best post in the region, but the blond from HC (Maggard, I think is her name) is a strong #2. Clay by 10 in the end
  11. LOL, wait a minute, they're charging 5 for the girls and not clearing the gym, but charging 7 for the boys AND clearing the gym???? JMO, but isn't that a little OUTRAGEOUS???? Les, I'm sure you were there, any reason given??? Even charging only 5, they're doubling up by clearing the gym...
  12. Wow!!! No wasting time, South v. North right off the bat. Clay v. Corbin may be good as well, Middlesboro and HC should cruise.
  13. Don't think Wright's going to lose 4 games to the same team in a season, South
  14. All three were veteran officials that probably called 40+ games this season. All 3 have a lot of regional experience as well. Thought it was very evenly called and that they "communicated" evenly with the coaches. Felt both teams got breaks. I have ties to neither school, just there to watch a good game, don't lessen the win for Corbin by blaming the refs. SL had several chances down the stretch to tie but shot themselves in the foot at least 3 times, turnover, useless foul, missed gimme, turnover...
  15. Don't think Elam can get them to the finals. Just my opinion though
  16. What about this, running clock anytime lead is over 30pts in the 2nd half. Think the no-press idea would be a little tough because the players could easily lose track of score. The clock person would have to be on their toes if it's barely over 30, but otherwise pretty easy to deal with. Just a thought...
  17. If the official knows time should be there, then sure they should add it back. Best example, at the end of a quarter, half, or of the game a foul is called or there is a ball out of bounds, ref blows his whistle, then clearly the horn goes off. Unless it's like .10 seconds, I think time should be added back, especially if it's a 1 possession game.
  18. Was there, only one "T", on the coach. Think the 2nd situation was actually a one and one, but the ref called the foul because of how severe the blockout was on the shooter. Not sure, but from my view that's what it looked like. They emptied the lane because the shooter still had the second shot of the 1 and 1 to complete. Then same shooter shot the double bonus. Least I think that's right. Anyone know how many pts the Jackson PG had? Seemed like she and #20 had a big night. Catholic missed a lot of free throws too.
  19. Just curious, besides helping his dad, what's his experience??? Or is that all there is? Not being negative or anything, really just curious
  20. LOL, don't it always come down to pitching and defense...just joking. Seriously, Bell has to be the fav coming in, they only lost 1 player from last year. Switching coaches may become a big deal, but you never know how kids will react. Middlesboro legend, Billy Powell, is back at the helm there and I know they have a lot of talent back as well.
  21. There should be a link on the KHSAA site.
  22. You all are joking right??? You're leaving out a very good Harlan Co. team. Ellis at W'burg is a good young coach, she may surprise also. Just not that sold on "JD" yet, he had such a great group for so long at M'boro, wasn't much coaching needed. Bell's at least one year away, they have talent but are very young. That and still awful curious why M'boro wouldn't take him back.
