If you don't know who Caitie Jackson is, then you've not watched 13th Region basketball this season. Caitie plays for North Laurel and had an outstanding senior season despite playing through injuries the past two years.

Was being sarcastic... Several players were more deserving, IMHO. Which, maybe there's a requirement about it going to a sr, most of the ones I'm thinking of are underclassmen.

I have to agree with Junior, I noticed that Jackson did not even make the all region tournment team, dont get me wrong she is a great player but they are a few other girls I think were more deserving. But if it had to be a senior I would go with Tyra of Jackson Co or Colman of Mboro

Way to go Catie, Congratulations.

Not really sure what happened here..Tyra from Jackson was voted by the coaches to be the number one player according to the Cats Pause in the beginning of the year and has already signed to play college ball in georgetown.Has the Jackson girl signed anywhere? Please don't ever comment on another kid who you don't think is deserving Les...

Tyra is a very deserving player to. As for the Cats Pause, that's preseason voting.

Congrats Caitie.

Jackson is a nice player, but I expected Tyra to win. She was selected player of the year on a coaches' all-region team I saw the other day and she was No. 1 in the preseason.

Well I guess the point is...Tyra is by far the better basketball player. (Not taking anything away from the Jackson kid.) But if you take the Tyra kid off of Jackson Co. team this year they have a losing record. She was very deserving of this vote and i think they got it wrong....And as far as the pre-season vote...She didn't improve that much!!!

Just some food for thought.....

There are two different votings for player of the year- one done by the coaches within the region and the other is for the KABC which the coaches that are KABC members get to vote for the player of the year. Based on the number of KABC members within a school, you can have several votes within a school. Typically this is where some players that are less likely get enough votes, especially if all schools don't have KABC memebers. I know many high schools are not represented.

If you take Jackson off North, they don't win much eaither. She did lead them to the region, though.

As for the pre-season poll, that's just it, it's a preseason thing.

Congrats Caitie.

Congrats to Caitie, but Tyra deserved the award. North made it to region because of the luck of the draw and also North has other players besides Jackson, who was the girl that made all tourney because Jackson did not make it.

I believe it was Kelsie Smith. She had a great game for North in the loss to South. In head to head games this season, North beat Jackson at Jackson, 53-34 and held Tyra to eight points, while Ashley Bingham had 10. Jackson had 12.

As for the luck of the draw, maybe if Jackson wouldn't have voted for the blind draw then they could have seeded.
