Belfry should come into the game focused and not over looking the Sheldon Clark Cardinals, especially at THE ROCK. The Prestonsburg game is over and I am sure that Coach Haywood has let his guys know that. I look for this game to be close in the first quarter and maybe even up to halftime, but with a big offensive line like the Cardinals have, in my opinion the Pirates will pull away in the second half and roll their way to home field advantage in the playoffs. Belfry is too quick and will wear this Cardinal team down heading into their off week at 8-1. Good luck to both teams tomorrow night and I hope to see a great ballgame and another Pirate victory at THE ROCK. GO BIG RED!!!!!:ylsuper:

Yogi Kinder is the biggest joke in the Williamson area. Allowing his star back to stay in a game like this and destroy a team like Burch is pathetic. For years, even when I played at Belfry, I wanted Coach Haywood to schedule Matewan because they always ran their mouths about how they would beat us. Looking back and knowing what I know now it would be a disgrace for a man Like Yogi Kinder to even walk on the same field as one of the great coaches, a "true" coach, like Philip Haywood. I would not want to take anything away from what the boy achieved Friday night but on a classy team like Belfry that star back would be just another face on the sidelines. Matewan High School, the Matewan Tigers football team and the entire town should feel horrible for this beating that they put on a team like Burch. This brings another point about Belfry not playing Matewan. Belfry is a top notch football team and we like to play teams of equal caliber and that is the reason Matewan always has and always will keep their trash on their side of the river. If Yogi wants to show how tough he is then schedule Belfry next year and Coach Haywood and the Pirates will show the Tigers just how it feels to be on the other side of the beating like Burch felt this past weekend.

Listen who really cares what the records look like of the teams Belfry and Pikeville have played. Anyone that know anything about high school football in Kentucky knows that the Belfry / Pikeville game is one of the top games in the mountains as well as the state every year. You throw out records in a game like this because this is a game where pride and respect come into play. The hate that builds in each players hearts of either the Pirates or the Panthers because they know that in the opposite locker room the team that they hate to loose to the most is about to step on the field with them and play for the bragging rights of the county for another year. It's an awesome site to see both teams run onto the field because you know that no matter what has happend so far that season in this game everything that each player has will be left on the field. Pikeville has a good team with some good talent especially in the backfield. Belfry again has a trio of backs to contain, along with a powerful offensive line, a new and talented quarterback and a smothering defense. This one will be close at halftime but the Pirates own the Panthers in the second half. This will actually be my first trip to Ashland's football field,and even though I have never been there, we all know that it is just like Belfry playing at Belfry. You had better have your "A" game on if your going to walk away with a win. Being a life long Pirate fan, and after watching our smothering D beat a good NCC team on Friday, if our offense picks up the slack this Friday night and plays half as well as the defense does then the "angry red" will roll out of Ashland 2-0. Russell you played an outstanding 1st half of ball. Coach McGlone called the perfect mix of pass/run plays and had the Belfry defense looking for answers that were never found until the 2nd half. The Devils looked like a well oiled machine and just did not quit, especially in the 1st quarter. A score of 20 to 0 could have easily been more had Maynard not caught #3 from behind, knocking the ball from his hands and causing the fumble out of the endzone. I feel that was the spark that brought a little life back into, what I thought, was a bunch of zombies out there instead of Pirates. However, when everything looked its darkest, out came a different team when the BELFRY PIRATES showed up for the 2nd half. For a few minutes we played like champions and then when everything was falling into place, it was as though someone threw a wrench into our gears and we began building up negative, instead of positive yardage. I know it hurts,I have been there and I too played my final game not to long ago as a Pirate and when you have the turnovers like we had tonight and the flags thrown at the end of the game its hard to come from behind and beat another good team. Hey, I am as proud of the Pirates as I have ever been and they have nothing to hang their heads about. Tonight we just got beat by a team that was just as good as we were. To my Pirates, you had another outstanding season and I am already looking forward to next year. For the seniors, I know it hurts, but trust me its gets better, maybe not tomorrow or the next day or even months from now, but one day you will be able to look back and smile and think, wow, that was the greatest time in my life, even though I lost my final game, I gave it my all. I never quit and left it all on the field. No one can ever take that from you and remember no matter where you are or how old you may be you will always be a Belfry Pirate. As for Russell, it hurts to loose, especially to an old rival, but tonight you earned it and you beat the best. So go next week and bring home the gold. It likes living in Eastern Kentucky, even if it is a few miles north from its home for the past two years. But remember, enjoy it while you can because next year, I promise you, the Pirates will be ready to take back the gold back(hopefully after a Red Devil win next Saturday). Thanksgiving is here. The dressing is in the oven and the turkey has been done since early this morning, now it is only a matter of time when everyone begins to show up to take part in this great feast. Later on everyone will rest on the couch or in the floor and watch Dallas and Denver fight it out for the ever popular 8 legged turkey, while around the Pond Creek Nation and the Russell area everyone has in their minds nothing but tomorrow nights game between the Russell Red Devils and the Belfry Pirates. I know in my household today and until the later hours of the night that will be the popular topic of choice as we all fill our bellies and count down the hours and minutes until we make that 2 hour trip up 23 tomorrow night for the smashmouth, slobber knocker of a game that awaits us all. I for one can not wait for kickoff tomorrow night. At stake is a chance at winning, what every player dreams of when he steps into that locker room in the later days of July, the gold of the AA state championship trophy. You have the Red Devils with an outstanding 12 - 1 record with revenge on their minds from the loss that they suffered just last year in the last high school game ever to be played on the legendary field at Vipperman Stadium. On the other hand you have the 2 time defending AA state champions the Belfry Pirates sporting the record of 11 - 2 with the taste of gold in their mouth once again, as one game stands in their way of returning to Papa John's Stadium for the chance of a 3peat and once again sailing the gold back to Eastern Kentucky. It will truly be an amaizing ballgame tomorrow night. As a Pirate fan I can't really say anything negative about this Red Devil team because they are tough and they have proved all season long that they want what the Pirates have had control of for the past 2 years, and tomorrow night they will have their chance to take that spotlight away from Belfry and maybe get their chance at that dream of winning it all. However, I do hope that their dreams are quickly turned to nightmares when the Pirates roll into town and hopefully end that Red Devil 21 home game winning streak and sail on to the west for another shot at winning it all. Nothing against Russell, it will be an amaizing game tomorrow night and I know that just like the Pirates, the Red Devils will be ready to play. On one hand Russell has everything to win and the Pirates have it all to loose, but come tomorrow night I think we will see a different Pirate team, even different from last weeks teams that crushed Sheldon Clark, a Pirate team that has that fire in their eyes, the determination in their minds and that burning down deep in their guts to prove to everyone that they are the team to beat and that they will be defending their gold around 3:30 P.M. come the 3rd of December. To both teams I wish you both the best of luck. Remember one team moves on and the other goes home. There is no tomorrow for 2nd best. I really can not wait until the game on Friday. It really will be a great contest between two amaizing teams. So far this season Russell has scored 518 points and given up 243. As for the Pirates they have scored 502 and given up only 191 points. Seems like a great game on paper, but the thing for us fans is that we get to watch it all unfold on the field in less than 4 days now. I wish everyone luck and I hope that we have a good, clean game and that both teams leave nothing out, leave it all on the field and when all is said and done the true winner will come forward ........ I find it very impressive when a powerhouse backfield can line up and for two straight years came out and just ran the ball down the mouths of two good teams and never really had to worry about passing the ball. Why throw it when your opponent can't ever stop you from running up the middle. Trust me this Pirate fan is far from being arrogant. I said before that I was thrilled that Sheldon Clark beat Leslie, everyone on Pond Creek knew that they could, but after they do suddenly they are the team to beat. After a 38 to 12 loss at CAM in the regular season and a 20 to 19 victory last weekend at Leslie Co. all of a sudden the Cards are the team to beat and the Belfry Pirates are on the outside looking in. Don't talk about anyone being arrogant until you go back and read all the posts that have been placed about this game tonight. Remember Sheldon Clark is coming to Belfry tonight, it's not the other way around, and all this 21-18 & 14 - 13 scores with Sheldon Clark winning won't happen. You beat a good team from Hyden and suddenly that makes up for the 4 touchdowns that you lost by the last time you were at the CAM. I just don't see Coach Haywood allowing his boys to come out and play without that fire in their eyes and knowing that a third straight regional Championship is just 48 minutes away. Need it be any clearer for everyone. There is a big difference in playing Belfry and Leslie Co. Belfry has it, Leslie Co wanted it. Belfry is the top dog in our region and has been for a long time. Yes there have been years that others have taken us down but everyone, no matter what, would do whatever they can to take down the Pirates and more that 90% of the time they walk away from playing the Pirates with a loss under their belt. Leslie is a team that draws you in on the run and then throws it deep. Yes they were a good team but not good enough, and yes they got beat by a good Sheldon Clark team. Belfry will line up and go all night long ramming the ball right down your mouth, whether you like it or not, and they will continue to do it until someone can stop it. If you can stop it you will probably win, if your a good team. If you can't stop the run then your in for a long night. What I am saying is this. Sheldon Clark you are a good ball team. You beat a good Leslie Co team on their home field, which if Belfry would have gotten a hold of them they would have, in my opinion, beaten them by 4 touchdowns and you come in to CAM tomorrow night saying that you are going to beat the Belfry Pirates on their on home field. I just ain't going to happen. I tell you I could not be any happier and proud of what you all have done this season but tomorrow night Sheldon Clark, get ready for basketball, because the Pirates are moving on to the State Semi Finals. :fire: :fire: :fire:

Ok Pirate Fans, we do need to do something this Friday night because we were horrible as fans during the Middlesboro game. I do not remember one time that the entire crowd stood up together and cheered on our team. It was like a UK basketball game, the geritol crowd must have not taken their vitamins before the drive to CAM Stadium because we were all (including myself) dead. We need to do whatever it takes to shake down the thunder this Friday night for all 4 quaters of the game and let our boys know that we are behind them 110%. Bring your cow bells, air horns, megaphones and expecially your big mouths and lets make the entire valley roar as we cheer our Pirates on to a 3rd strainght Regional Championship. I know we can do it. Hey, we may be at a new field but that Pirate Pride came with us. Sorry but Belfry is going to win another regional championship next week at CAM. I really am glad that the Cardinals won tonight but Leslie Co. had no idea what they were up against. That smashmouth football will kill you if you don't play it every week. Belfry knows what the Cards have and they know how to handle it like they did earlier this year. I know that Sheldon Clark will be coming off a huge win but remember this is Belfry. They wear you out and run you down and finally they break away and never look back.
