Hate to say it, but officiating and how this game is officaited could be a big difference maker in the outcome of this one.

I think Dixie is probably the favorite. But I expect St. Henry to come in and play with great effort. If they can get some shots to fall and not have to play from way behind, I think the senior leadership will give St. Henry the edge. Dixie isn't some offensive juggernaut but they have some guys you have to defend well. Limit the points for Pike and Trammel and the Crusaders win.

Exactly what I was going to say after reading this original post. Holmes is a defensive team. They will take some lumps this year. They aren't going to run through the region like they did last year. They will struggle with Highlands and maybe another team in the 9th. They will have some tough matchups. But, ,they are still the defending state champs. They still return 4 solid players from that squad. Just like many other teams in the state, they will have to get better. They will have to learn to play together again. They will have to adjust to the style of play from game to game. Lets just remember.....when it came down to scoring and pusing the ball at Rupp Arena. They did it. At did it as well as anyone. Henley prepares his teams as well as any coach in the state.

Both teams have something still to prove. Winner will probably be the districts #1 seed.

How did the Rockets vs Warriors 8th Grade game go?? Was a big match up in the 8th Grade division.

It should be interesting when these two teams match up. I don't there there is question they are the best 2 teams in the area. But you add that speed Highlands has, to the size they have and they are one heck of a team.

Highlands is the fastest team in the area, sorry Holmes.

The final score to St. Henry game as 75-26. And Im pretty sure, even though it was out of hand early. St. Henry didn't score 50pts in the first half. As for St. Henry and PC style of play...not sure if you've seen St. Henry this year, but they haven't slowed down the game very much at all this season. Check with Coach L on that one. Fastest team I've seen IS NOT HOLMES. Its Highlands. That team is faster than any group in NKY. Mike Flynn has a great group of weapons in his first year at Highlands. I don't think many teams will be able to keep up with them.

This highlands team is going to be tough to beat. They shot the 3ball pretty well. They are very very fast. They play fast and they are big. Oh, and they have a lot of experience. In my opinion Highlands might be an all around better team than Holmes. Guess we'll see?

I confirmed with Coach Faust yesterday it was his first win ever at CovCath in his 16yrs. He wasn't sure about before his time. With that said I wish both these teams the best of luck the rest of the year. Its the only game of the season I really root against CovCath.

Like I said, I agree they will be a good team this year and will surprise people. I think they will give NCC a very tough time, but I think by January Highlands will be one of the top 15 teams in the state. If there not already. As for the 3 teams you mentioned above. They might not be more exciting but they have a history of winning much more with there style. As for this season, not sure if you've seen Ryle or St. Henry this year but there pace has definetly picked up.

Im not saying your totally wrong about Newport. I think they could sneak up on someone again, as they do to a few teams each year. But lets seriously look at the competition they played in those 2 games. Not much at all.

I helped coach Thelen, Brett Riedenger, and "Cubby" Connlley the summer of their 8th Grade year. So I got to know these guys pretty well. All are very nice young men. Fun to be around and they come from great families. Cubby as we all called him, would throw down a few dunks in practice. I was always amazed by his athleticism. But when you get to know his high energy personality, you knew where the athleticism was coming from. Its just waiting to get out. Good WR for the football team too.

Im very proud tonight. I can't even think of the last time St. Henry beat CovCath at home. I don't think Coach Faust had ever done that. Im so happy for Coach and this squad. They played like they didn't even know the game was in Park Hills. 4 players with any varisty experience and they played like the CovCath Crazies weren't even there. Amazing it didn't effect them at all. This CRU is going to have a tough season, but I think they are ready to step up to the challenge. They had ups and downs tonight. Lots of bad decision making. But they didn't give in at all tonight. They weren't the most talented team or the biggest team on the floor tonight. But they had bigger hearts than anyone could imagine. They fought through foul trouble and even one of the best players on the bench the entire 3rd qtr. From what I've seen in the first 2 games, they are going to try harder and out hustle, out work, and out play you every possesion of the game (on offense and defense). Its going to be tough for any team (with exception of maybe Holmes) to blow this team out, this is one heck of a group of fighters. CONGRATULATIONS CRUSADERS, you were the better team tonight!!!

I believe these two teams are about even in the past few years. Seems like the home team has been winning for the most part. I think the defense will be very good in the game and both teams will get after it. But I think the offense is going to be sluggish. Lots of turnovers and lots bad decisions. I think it could be closer than most are thinking. We know what CovCath has but not many have a clue what St Henry has. Should be a good one.

Meiman is on JV and not dressing varsity. From what I hear the Freshman and JV games were awful. Football scores. Both in the 20's I believe. Think the freshman final was 21-14. A goal line stand to win the game. The varsity game was pretty intense. The game was very physical and both teams were playing about as hard as I could imagine. St. Henry went on top to start 13-2 but a second quarter 9-0 run got Brossart right back into the game at 18-16. Halftime score was 29-28 St. Henry. Brossart came right out in the 2nd half and took the lead. The Stangs handled the second half for the most part. The Cru made a few runs but came up a little short. A few things I noticed. St Henry missed a lot of easy shots and turned the ball over way way too much. Can't happen when one of your returning starters is an experienced PG. But they got some good play from Sr. Ryan Anderson and Benny Bessler. I thought both these defenses were really getting after it. They both put a lot of pressure on each other. Rieger for Brossart is a very nice player, who can score anywhere on the court. But he has to shoot his free throws better. I don't think he made 1 all night. Also # 10, the PG for brossart is a nice player and I think Brossart is going to give a lot of teams trouble in the 10th because of there physical play and size. Lots of complaints about the officiating going on in the crowd....but I thought it was fairly even on both ends. Just got a little wild at times. They let teams play physcial in the 10th. Its not ticky tacky like the 9th. But then again I heard a lot of Brossart fans grumbling too. Overall I thought it was a pretty good game. The tough, hard nosed defense led to a lot of turnovers on both sides. But I think all the teams there tonight scouting learned one thing.....these teams are going to give great effort all year long.

I can agree with the Refs comment. As much as some of us in the 9th complain about our refs, everytime I go to watch a game at Brossart or Campbell Co I leave there thinking that was one of the worst ref'd games I've seen. Hopefully I've just had bad luck and that changes tonight. As for the height difference. I think for the past 4yrs St. Henry has had zero height or been out sized. The differnce won't be the height its going to be the talent and execution. I think its going to take this Crusader team a few weeks before they start to gell. I think this will be a great JV matchup. St. Henry has a nice set of JV players and I think I've heard Brossart does too. Both have a couple freshman that will see some time also in Meiman and Sully??? I believe?

Not sure what Brossart has coming back but this game will be a big test for both teams. I would expect Brossart to have a better scouting report on St. Henry than St. Henry on Brossart due to the fact that St. Henry scrimmaged the other Code brother at SK a couple weeks ago. I think St. Henry is going to struggle offensivly for a few weeks, so if the score is low it won't be just because Brossarts defense is dominant. It will be mostly because St Henry is replacing 9 seniors from last year.

ColonelCrazy, Im not sure if we agree on much. But I really agree with you hear. I think you said it best. If I was a player, it might have made me a bit upset but if you can't stop the kid from scoring then there isn't much else to say.
