Newport Wildcats offensive machine

Featured Replies

These guys are my darkhorse to advance in their district as well as the Region. They have a Senior laden team with excellent size and athleticism. They picked up Demarko Foster also this season as a transfer and that kid can play.

They dropped 92 on Villa Madonna as expected and 107 last night against SCPA. Teams are going to have trouble stopping this offensive juggarnaut this season. Tucker/Sizemore/McDaniel/Luther/Foster/Collins is a very solid 6 players who can all score and all seem to know their roles.

Im not saying your totally wrong about Newport. I think they could sneak up on someone again, as they do to a few teams each year. But lets seriously look at the competition they played in those 2 games. Not much at all.

You seem to be somewhat knowledgable on NKY basketball so I am assuming you have followed the Wildcats over the past couple years. These guys in their Top 6 rotation have been playing Varsity since they were sophomores and a couple of them play on traveling teams that have played very well in AAU ball. You put someone like Demarko Foster in this lineup as the PG and it makes them a very scary team. They will beat some teams this year in the 9th region and IMO they will give Highlands and NCC a major run for their money in the District Tournament. If I am the Birds or Breds I hope to god I draw Dayton/Bellevue in the first round to avoid that very difficult task of beating Newport to advance.

I am not bragging about the teams they have beaten, just emphasizing that they are pounding teams, scoring a ton of points and seem to be playing very well. Probably a much more exciting team to watch some of the other 9th Region teams like Ryle/Holy Cross /St. Henry who cant seem to break 60 points consistently.

Like I said, I agree they will be a good team this year and will surprise people. I think they will give NCC a very tough time, but I think by January Highlands will be one of the top 15 teams in the state. If there not already.

As for the 3 teams you mentioned above. They might not be more exciting but they have a history of winning much more with there style. As for this season, not sure if you've seen Ryle or St. Henry this year but there pace has definetly picked up.

Good points and looking forward to seeing all of the teams in the 9th. Good luck to your Cru on Tues night vs. the Birds.

One word to describe the Wildcats this season S-C-A-R-Y. We will see how good they are when they play on Dec. 12th and 14th and 22nd. I say they win two of three if not all three. :isurrender:

I don't know about the 12th and the 22nd, but Newport will not win on the 14th. Wishful thinking.

Could be one of the best games of the year in the 9th region! Newport is loaded this year people do not let anyone fool you. Upset special for Christmas.

In case you haven't noticed, Holmes is defending State Champs and has 2 first team all state players and a potential 2nd or 3rd all state player. No one in NKY comes close to Holmes talent. Holmes will beat Newport by double digits.

They are very very good. I don't think they can beat Highlands, but NCC is a real possibility. IMO that District is the strongest overall in the 9th.

I thought the same thing last year and all Holmes did was jump out to a 36 point lead against the Wildcats. Newport isn't disciplined enough to beat any of the top 5 teams and I think the 14th will show that.

Unlike many other teams in the 9th, Holmes actually has the athleticism to give Newport problems instead of vice versa.

I do agree though that Newport will surprise some people this year.

If Newport continues to share the ball they can play with anybody in the 9th region. If teams thinks this is the same old Newport this year then they will be surprised.Come tournament time they will be ready with a good regular season schedule. They are playing Holmes,Highlands,Connor,NCC,Boone Co,Campbell CO,Holy Cross,St. Henry and Brossart this year.

Let's see how they do next week against Holmes before we start proclaiming them an offensive juggernaut. It's still early in the season and Newport really hasn't played anyone yet.

I saw Newport play all summer, seen their preseason scrimmages and now some game action. They are legit.

Holmes lost to a Small prep school Bowman Academy from Indiana in only their 3rd year of organized basketball over the weekend. They have some work to do, so there just might be a chink in the bulldogs armor for the wildcats to trounce on

I read in another thread that Bowman Academy would be a top 10 team in the state of KY and has at least 2 division I players.

Newport has been a sleeper in the 9th region for about 8 years now. Forgive me if I'm hesitant to jump on the bandwagon.
