  1. CC has two athletes that really concern me. The fullback and tailback/receiver seem hard to stop.....
  2. M'boro had some rough edges in the scrimmage up here, but I saw a team that could get solid by mid season. Middlesboro had the look of a good high school football team, IMO. The loss of Adams hurts, but kids are always going to graduate (at least we hope so). I can see the Jackets winning the district this year. I think CHS could have some problems of their own this year on the O and D lines that could make the M'boro/CHS matchup the district winner. I'm not counting M'boro out just yet.
  3. LC played their young backs after Steele marched down the field on JC. Most of the carries after his score went to the freshmen and sophmores. If Mitchell had wanted to leave Wes out there he could have scored almost at will. LC beat JC on both sides of the ball.
  4. Bubba, I think if this becomes a shootout in the range you just predicted, that favors LexCath heavily. JMO.
  5. Middlesboro beat us. They look to be very solid this year. LC beat JC fairly well. Steele looked great against JC. LC was probably a B- to C+ friday night overall.
  6. Clay has me worried. I have no idea what to expect out of them.
  7. Well, then, I'll go with my 2 to 3 touchdown loss prediction. I think that it will be early quick strikes that put the Colonels in a hole that they have trouble making up, sort of like the HHS last year. This is a rough starting game, but one that helps you see where you are, what you need to do and makes you beter late in the year.
  8. Yes. I should have recognized all the mountain kids, not just the local ones. Sorry. Congrats to all!:thumb:
  9. I hate to pick against Bell, but the realistic side of me says to go with the Alcoa bunch...
  10. Congrats to the local Mountain Kids, Watts, Moses and Watkins.
  11. I see KC in a 20+ point win.
  12. Where is it being played at? If it's up there, I would have to agree with SHSF. 14-21 point loss. If it's at WCHS, I think it would be a little closer. I think that Whitley will have a strong showing but the Knights will be just a little too much this week.
  13. I don't know much about Clay this year. LC has one of the largest groups of kids they have ever had and have the ability to move the ball this year after last year's injury riddled year destroyed us. What do you think?
  14. A lot of things that kill players are things like heart problems that only extensive/expensive tests would reveal. Usually the "risk" kids would get these. I have to agree about the physicals not being very "in depth".
  15. In their defense, kids will be kids. It's not the NFL with stipulations on what they can and can't do when they are not playing (I'm talking about sky diving and bike riding, not alcohol or drugs, just to be clear). Friday night football is a pastime for many, a real passion for a few. They don't think about a lot of things such as "If I ride this bike and get hurt, there goes my teams season." They think "I'll bet this is going to be fun!".
  16. We want our linemen big in HS ball, but many of the kids I see can be candidates for some major health issues. Heart Disease, Diabetes, etc. BUT, on the flip side, they are getting exercise. Two edge sword, I guess....
  17. Thanks for the follow up. I really do hope this is nothing serious, just a decision to try something new. Lynn Camp had some great battles with Cobb. Here is to the best for both Cobb and Somerset!:thumb:
  18. Starting to look like the leadership is coming together and the problems are rectifying themselves. Clouds could be parting and shinning a light on a much better situation.
  19. I heard that, too. Here's praying that the injuries are not that bad.
  20. Wow! I had forgotten about him quitting and returning really quick 2 years ago. Any chance that he took another job this close to the season starting?
  21. Just heard camp went well with a few small injuries. JV looked very good and the Varsity had their ups and downs. Almost time for the season to start now.
  22. I have heard that the numbers are good for the Jackets. Any word on who will be replacing kids like Lawson and Rollins? How are those kids looking compared to who they replaced?
  23. It may not be easy, but I think they will win it, too.
  24. I think they went to Union because of a wet field situation. I could be wrong, but I think one of the parents told me they were camping in Barbourville now.
