Ram Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 What does Williamsburg need to do to improve in 2009? What do they need to keep doing to be successful? Remember, please be constructive.
FullMetalJacket Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 Williamsburg will need some kids to step on the O-line and D-line, if that happens they will surprise some people...QB Ryan Moses returns along with some very capable wide outs...
Chant_50 Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 Jarrod Barton (so), Chris Lowrie(jr), Robert Wagers (jr), and Travis Thomas (jr) all look promising in the backfield. The schedule sounds tough with the likes of South Laurel, and Hazard for non-district games...Berea returns to district play, while C-Ville and Lynn Camp will be their usual tough selves. I also believe Harlan is on the schedule, but don't quote me.

volfan782000 Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 There have been some nice surprises in the o-line this spring. Jeremy Collins appears solid at center after a nice jr. campaign. Andrew Root is looking good at right guard and can also play some at center if needed. Jordan King apperars to have the inside track at right tackle and is showing improvement daily, and Cody Perkins looks to be solid at left tackle. Left guard is a bit of a mystery, but if someone steps up there the Jackets should have a solid line. The biggest concern with the Jackets will be depth. If they can stay healthy they should challenge for another district championship.
Chant_50 Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 The O-Line does show daily improvement...King has been a very nice surprise! The others you mentioned (Collins, Root, and Perkins) seem to have picked up where they left off last year with good off-season work. LG seems to be more of a conern than a mystery. Chris Wright has the tools to play there if he continues his improvement through the summer, as does Devin Jones and Daniel Mitchell. IF each has a good off-season, then that position battle will be interesting to say the least.

Chant_50 Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 :thumb: What about the schedule, do you know who they play in 09? Jellico wk 0 South Laurel wk 1 and in no particular order Campbellsville Lynn Camp Clinton Co. Berea Hazard Maybe Harlan...not sure. Don't know the rest, but I'd guess Pineville since it is such a long-standing rivalry.
volfan782000 Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 Nice schedule additions of Hazard and South Laurel. If Williamsburg does surprise and win the district again that would be 3 in a row. I only mention this because I wonder if that is something that has ever been accomplished by the Burg. I think it also shows what a wonderful job this coaching staff does with limited talent and numbers. It is also a testament that players buy into Coach Herron's love of "wearing the orange" and taking immense pride in that.

Wouldn't play McCreary Central and play Jellico!!!:isurrender:

Wouldn't play McCreary Central and play Jellico!!!:isurrender: From what I understand that was the only availability for week 0. I'm pretty sure Coach Herron wouldn't duck anyone, especially McCreary. I'm pretty sure South and Hazard are major upgrades in comparrison with McCreary. I have a hard time understanding why a school several time larger than Williamsburg has this fixation on playing them. I haven't been around but about 10 or so years, but correct me if wrong, during that time I have never seen McCreary beat Williamsburg. Close a few times but never a win. Is Williamsburg the measuring stick for a 5A program?. . . I would think they would want bigger fish to fry. Just my observation which may not count for much.
