From what I've been told, McCreary Central offered W'burg week 0 and they declined. I don't think it's a matter of using W'burg for any kind of measuring stick. I think the reason is the schools are 20 miles apart, good gate ,good competitive game. Don't think there is a lot of LOVE for each other, could have something to do with W'burg, having a couple McCreary kids starting for them the last 4 years.

No it is officially week 0, it has to do with open dates, or at least that was how it was explained to me.

Didn't those families move to Williamsburg? I could be wrong but I thought they did. If that was the case then they would be Williamsburg kids.

Actually from the bit I've seen they may actually, as a unit, be improved. They front of King, Perkins, and Collins should be very solid. The speed of the linebackers will be better. Root appears to be very solid reading and comes forward well, he's not as fast as his older brother Aaron was but he doesn't care to stick his nose in there. Wagers is quick and will add speed. Barton can drop in coverage and also will flow from sideline to sideline. Travis Thomas and Aaron Mack will battle for the other outside spot as will Petit. Barton is also playing at strong safety and Williams looks pretty good at free. Dusty Brown will be solid at one corner and Lowery at the other. I think one will see a little more emphasis on defense this year and as a unit alot of improvement.

Teams have an option this year. If they wish to have an open week during the season they may start the season in Week 0, and have 11 weeks to play 10 games. If they do this, that team may only have one pre-season scrimmage. If they do not want an open week during the season, they may choose to begin the season in Week 1 and have 10 weeks to play 0 games. If they choose this option, they may have 2 pre-season scrimmages.

I think the Phillips kid is now in school at McCreary. So I guess it all depends on who you talk to.

I'm not sure, but I don't think the Phillips boys ever moved to Williamsburg. I think they drove over from McCreary each day. The other two families did move to Williamsburg.

I personally don't see how Williamsburg can be even close to as good as they were last year with the people they lost to graduation. However, after seeing their schedule I think they will have a good season record wise. Even their district will be down a bit with C-ville losing what they lost to graduation and getting a new head coach. I think the team to beat in that district will be Lynn Camp (if they stay health)! I want to wish the Jackets luck for the 2009 season!

Rule 13

Williamsburg and McCreay never discussed playing week 0. Williamsburg was going to scrimmage Jellico August 21 week 0(just like 2008 season). The state decided to let teams paly a game week zero and have and off week, both coaches kept their verbal agreement to August 21. It is now a game instead of a scrimmage. If the state had not changed the rules it would be scrimmage. Williamsburg and McCreary did discuss week 2 through e-mail, but Williamsburg had already signed a contract with Harlan. If you have any further questions about Williamsburg's schedule, I will be glad to answer them in this forum or private message.

Thanks, I understand now the concept of week 0 now. I hadn't heard of a week 0 until this thread, I guess it makes sense.

It's new this year, so a lot of people are unaware of it. The coaches were split on having an off week during the season, so this gives them a chance to have an off week, or to not have an off week, which ever they prefer. I think it is a good thing.
