Here's something to think about as we move our child/children away to college for the first time. Alot of advice has been offered to first timers going to college, but what advice, or thoughts, should be offered to staff members at these colleges/universities on how to treat these young, often nervous, college freshmen.
Four years ago, I dropped off a son at UK and have never been treated with anything other than respect and compassion. The same has been shown to my son, who is now a senior. On the other hand, I dropped my other child off at another state university just down the road last week, and I have not run into any staff members from housing, registrar, and the dorm staff who have been concerned or willing to help or answer simple questions. Now I will say that the Admissions Office and the Financial Aid Offices have been very helpful.
Any thoughts?
