Well, I guess I'm going to have to invest in some now.

Leslie County was the 5th place finisher. Lynn Camp and KC tied for 6th with 15. Black Bear Den Mother, were you there yesterday? I was there, 3wishes and Mama Bear were, too. I was the guy handing out the trophies and t-shirts to the kids that won and placed. Thanks to all who participated, coached, judged, spectated or helped out in any way at all. Thanks, especially, to all the kids. You every one represented your schools well. Not one issue, not one problem or not one cross word came out of these participants lips yesterday. To those parents that are raising these young men, congratulations on a job well done and keep up the good work. You should be proud of these guys and how they handle themselves.:thumb:

We need to come up with some kind of system for meeting other BGPers at ballgames and such. I realized this following our weight meet at Lynn Camp High School this weekend when I could have met at least 2 of my fellow posters that I did not know were going to be there. (That's you, Mama Bear and 3wishes!) Any ideas out there? Anyone tried this before? Sign up sheet? Big cardboard sandwich sign around our necks? Bat signal lights that form out "BGP" in the night sky? What has worked well for some of you? This could be a bad idea, I don't know. Just curious if there was any interest. (Asking each and every person at a game if they were "Pigskin Pete" would get both tiresome and probably get you put away.) Thanks, guys, for any input.:thumb:

We can't imagine how bad some of the old rivalries were. I have talked to some of the old guys that played around here when guys came back from WW2 and had eligibility to play. WOW! Anything today is child's play to what some of the schools did to each other a few decades ago....

At least before the first game, anyway? Maybe?

I knew Knox and Corbin had one, but there have been athletic transfer problems in the past between CHS/LC and CHS/WCHS. This kind of goes against what you were saying, 4chs. Was it because they (the powers that be) thought the moves were motivated by athletics only? It confused me when it happened because of the agreement. Without naming names, can you enlighten that situation, 4chs? Thanks. I have no idea about this one, but do Knox County and Laurel County have an agreement?

I was not being lazy. I was looking for a good start. You would be very suprised at how knowledgeable the folks on here can be. Better than blind net surfing by a long shot! I already have a couple of good suggestions from yourself and ths. I was not going to base an entire paper on BGP. I did, however, know that it would be a great jumping of point from years of being around these guys and gals. Thanks for the input so far!

I know these things have existed for quite awhile, but I got interested recently. Are these agreements between schools only academic or are the students eligible to live in County A and actively participate in athletics in County B where they attend school due to a recipricol agreement? Not a tuitional type agreement, but a County to County/Independent to Independent system/etc. agreement to allow students in. How about if the state has to take over a system (due to academics) and the kids are free to go to any system under the state laws. Can they participate then? I figured this was the best place to get some information on this subject. I'm writing a paper for school on this and was curious as to what the exact parameters are. Thank you in advance.

Well, HOP, I know that MCC has some kids that can play. Watts can't get it all done himself. I just feel that the overall talent of KC vs MCC is what makes the upgrade on the schedule for WHS. I don't want to offend. I think the talent level drops off quite a bit after Watts is all I guess I am trying to say. (I don't want to put up any BB material, Lord knows, because we play Y'all the last game of the regular season!)

KC is still going to be something to contend with, B99. Chad Merida is still one of the best athletes in the US, much less around here. (He is still in the top in most of the Combines he has attended.) The QB they have for this year is more than capable. KC will not be AS strong as last year, but will still be very good. Williamsburg will face a huge test in KC. MCC is still a one man show for the most part. That one man is something else, but he still has very little around him. KC is still much better than MCC, and is thus an upgrade on WHS schedule.

KC is a big step up, especially this year, from MCC for Williamsburg. Not a knock on MCC, but KC is vastly better across the field this season than MCC.

Is there some turmoil or just budget stuff?

A June/July hire cannot help this team like a team should be helped, IMO. UNLESS it is a current staff member, it does not allow a new coach to enter a very good situation. Missing the spring would not be the best thing that could happen to a new coach. I agree. Taking a new job almost always means a resignation here in the real world.....

Who ran spring practice for them?

I look for LCA to be as good, or better, than the last 2 years. Looks like they will still have everything they need to be at or near the top in 1A. Bluto, here's wishing all of you luck in all but 1, or possibly 2 (IF we get to you in the playoffs again), games next year! I really do feel like the Eagles have the edge on the B'wood Tigers this year going in.

IMO, Rollins is going to be the toughest one to replace. Lawson was a hoss, but Rollins was the difference in many games.

Is he being recruited? I would think so. The kid is an athlete and then some. I was pretty pumped up when I heard the paperwork had been signed for these two to play once more.

I can think of ONE big injury that really killed MCC's 2008 season. How is he doing?

LC has had to have some of the worst luck with injuries among the single A teams in the area. We lost TB 1, 2 and 3 in the first 3 games last year. We lost Roskoph to a freak knee injury the year before without anyone putting a hand on him. It has to be a run of bad luck is what I keep telling myself. I know all schools are concerned with injuries, but there seems to be a hex on us. I just want one healthy season. We have battled staph. We have battled flu in the middle of the summer. It just seems like the weirdest things happen to us, and it seems we never, at least in the last 5 years, catch a break from the injury bug. THAT is what I meant with the healthy post.:thumb:
