2009 Lynn Camp

Featured Replies

What does Lynn Camp need to do to improve in 2009? What do they need to keep doing to be successful? Remember, please be constructive.

Coach Dave Mitchell does a great job and I look for more of the same. Lynn Camp will hit and tackle and play hard they just need more bodies.

1.) Be Healthy.

2.) Stay Healthy.

3.) Use the Healthy Options.

We've had good spring numbers. 7 or 8 play baseball, and have not been around much.

Last year, injuries absolutely destroyed us early and it never got any better. Starting TB Wagner had a great night against Leslie in the Pioneer Bowl, 1st game of the season. Out by monday with a knee injury. 2nd game, 2nd option for TB Steele, hurt by the end of the Harlan County game. (Harlan County had a very physical team, and we got banged up so bad mentally and physically that I don't think we were ever the same team again.) 3rd game, Campbellsville, 3rd option TB Napier goes down first play from scrimmage with a broken ankle. We moved Person from TE to RB and the kid had over 1100 yards in 8 games. Our only real options at moving the ball after the 3rd game, consistently, were Tyrone and Jonah Mitchell, the QB. Did not take a lot of planning to stop us due to the limited offense we had to run.

Gone is Mitchell, to graduation, along with Baker (OL), Wagner, Herren (Recvr), and the big TE/DE Steven Davis.

BUT: This year, early, it looks as though we have 3 or possibly 4 options at moving the ball and a couple of decent options at QB.

The QB spot is up for grabs, somewhat, and the front runner will probably be decided in the summer. Right now, I think it's Josh Smith.

RB list is fairly deep for us. Dylan Napier, Tyrone Person, Tanner Keith and Wesley Steele all return, along with freshman Jesse Keith. All play a little different, But I look for Napier and Steele to carry the biggest part of the load from the TB/HB position, with Tyrone in the mix at a little of both, plus FB. T. Keith will be a hoss to run from the position, also, and looks to have bulked up and sped up. Junior Jared Ammon could see some touches, also, and will see more playing time on the defensive side of the ball, too. This kid was near impossible to bring down in the JV games last year.

Kicking game could still be a mystery until fall. I have no clear picture at this point. He has a knack at staying on his feet and looked good moving the ball in JV games last year. Has a real knack at getting after people.

The OL and DL are going to be their usual big front for LC. Baker is gone, but is replaced by Austin Hall, a 6'-3", 340 pound freshman. Sophmores Jonah Sparks and Alsip will see time on the line, along with Junior Daulton Lanham, who will be a monster on both sides of the ball. Brad Bargo returns along with Christian Woolum, Austin Peters, Cody Rickett and senior center Travis Rice.

Bargo was a force on defense last year, along with Brandon Disney, who also returns. Reece Ammon, who can be a beast on the Defensive side of the ball, returns with the above seniors.

Freshman Ryan Donelley and Junior Dylan Rose will find their way onto the field because of their athleticism. We have some holes to fill and have to find some bodies to fill them and these could be the guys.

This could be one of LC's better defensive squads and is already one of the more athletic and physical groups in the last 5 or 6 years.

Leadership has to come from somewhere, and I think that will make the difference in what this team does. The schedule favors them IF they decide to play to their full ability.

This is a very junior/senior laden team. There is a lot of experience with this group, and a lot of kids got to play due to the injuries from last year. They just have to find senior/junior leadership and cohesiveness to reach the possible success. They need to find some emotion and enthusiasim that was missing last year, too.

LC has home games with Whitley County, Williamsburg, Pineville, Campbellsville and Harlan.

They travel to Berea, Clinton Co., Lexington Christian and McCreary Central.

They will open against Clay County in the Pioneer Bowl at Knox Central.

By far, the Lex. Christian and Whitley games are the ones the Cats will be fighting uphill battles in. These are the two games that I think they are going to have to gut out and find themselves in. The other games that they will have to play mistake free ball in could be WHS, C'ville and Clay. The rest are winnable games if the Cats execute. McCreary will probably be a nasty affair at the end of the regular season for both teams. (That is just a hunch. This is a game for LC like the WHS game where the teams just do not care for each other at all!)

Most of the kids have worked pretty hard this winter to prepare. Last year was one of those lost seasons that you have from time to time and have to forget and play the next one without looking back.

I'll be back with more later and will try to get the rest of the roster posted, too.

Staying Healthy is the Key to most High School programs. Lynn Camp have had a lot of injurys the last few years. Is it a Run of Bad Luck or What??

I think this season looks good for the Lynn Camp Wildcats.

The schedule seems to be pretty good with a heavy start to the year with Clay County, Whitley County, and Lexington Christian in the first three weeks. If Lynn Camp can come out of these three games healthy and confident, then the rest of the schedule is in their favor. Each game should be a hard fought contest for the rest of the year, but Lynn Camp shouldn't feel bad about their chances in any of the games.

The numbers of players appear to be up and Spring Practice seems to be going well too. There are holes left from last years seniors but the younger players have already stepped up to fill some of them. There is a really good group of incoming freshmen and experienced sophomores.

If they can stay HEALTHY (which is a concern for almost every team - but a REALLY HUGE one for the Wildcats the last couple of years), they should have a fun, productive year.

I agree with the post earyler. Lynn Camp McCreary Central will be a War. They don't like each other. Both Teams will be vastley improved from Last year. Both will suprise some people this season. This game will be a pride game. Both teams will probally be in the Play-offs for their Classes.

LC has had to have some of the worst luck with injuries among the single A teams in the area. We lost TB 1, 2 and 3 in the first 3 games last year. We lost Roskoph to a freak knee injury the year before without anyone putting a hand on him. It has to be a run of bad luck is what I keep telling myself. I know all schools are concerned with injuries, but there seems to be a hex on us. I just want one healthy season. We have battled staph. We have battled flu in the middle of the summer. It just seems like the weirdest things happen to us, and it seems we never, at least in the last 5 years, catch a break from the injury bug. THAT is what I meant with the healthy post.:thumb:

McCreary can feel your pain about injuries. We were 4-2 last year when the injury bug hit us. We even played one game with 9 startes out because of injuries. I think it is important for L.C. to stay healthy and if they do they will be a very good football team. Good luck through 9 games!

I can think of ONE big injury that really killed MCC's 2008 season.

How is he doing?

Had a great B-ball season. He's getting ready for Baseball. When the school year is over he says he is going to dedicate his summer to weight-lifting, plometrics and about 3 different football camps to get ready for his senior season! Put that together with how hard everyone else is working and .............. well all I can say is everyone is excited in Raiderland!:dancingpa

Is he being recruited? I would think so.

The kid is an athlete and then some.

I was pretty pumped up when I heard the paperwork had been signed for these two to play once more.

Several schools have him on their list. He has already been invited to UK and Louisville for meet and greets......and I might say Roark has been invited as well! I am also excited about this game being added to the schedule as me and Coach Mitchell are good friends. I am also excited about Wayne Co being put back on the schedule. It is almost like the old days again. If you see my old buddy Mr. Disney tell him I said hello and I hope his son has a good year with only one bad game. LOL!

Watts is being looked at by many Schools. UK, U of L, U of Cinn., EKU, Western, Purdue, Colorado, Illinois, to name some that I know of. Roark is getting several looks also. Everyone was glad to see Lynn Camp back on the Schedule, should be a good Game.

What sport or sports will Watts play in college? Which would be his best fit? Is Wagner from LC going to play at the next level? If he recovered from his knee injury he has the potential to do so.

Hey HOP, glad we don't have to deal with him again this year! :D He is fast, smooth and controlled. A fine young athlete. Best of luck to him and MCC. :thumb:
