I know these things have existed for quite awhile, but I got interested recently.

 

Are these agreements between schools only academic or are the students eligible to live in County A and actively participate in athletics in County B where they attend school due to a recipricol agreement?

 

Not a tuitional type agreement, but a County to County/Independent to Independent system/etc. agreement to allow students in.

 

How about if the state has to take over a system (due to academics) and the kids are free to go to any system under the state laws. Can they participate then?

 

I figured this was the best place to get some information on this subject.

Many of these have been discussed. You may find information in the public/private section of BluegrassPreps. Practically every school system in Kentucky is different. We have way to many counties and that's part of the education dilemma.

 

Independent schools like Bowling Green or Highlands may take any student they wish to admit and charge them a nominal fee. Usually their KY tax dollars follow them.

 

Hardin County has agreements between E-town and the county schools placing a cap on how many kids living in a certain district are allowed to attend another school.

 

Someone will shed some light on Danville/Boyle County. The individual school websites may also contain all sorts of information.

 

Jefferson County public schools may accept students from outside the county as long as there is room. You may begin at duPont Manual as long as you have a Jefferson County address and then move out of the county and continue to attend.

 

You will also find state border schools accept students from other states.

 

You will have to limit your scope or you may end up writing a novel!

I suggest you go to a school adm office and talk to a DPP or other administrator and gather your information. They can also tell you which state regulations pertain to your question.

 

The info you get on a message board might not be the most reliable.

 

If you turned in a paper to me using message board info. you would certainly not get a good grade. Don't be lazy.

The FiveCo Area in North-Eastern Kentucky has a Reciprocity agreement. This area includes the Counties of Greenup, Boyd, Carter, Lawrence, and Elliott. All students may attend the school of their choice if the school excepts them. This is seen in Greenup County quite a bit. A student that lives in any of the three school districts (Greenup County, Raceland, and Russell) may attend any of the three schools without tuition charges and state money follows that student.

Corbin Independent has reciprocal agreements with both the Knox and Whitley County school systems, but Laurel Co. will not sign one with Corbin. The way I understand it is the state money follows the student at the school they choose, regardless of where they live and they are eligible to play athletics.

Pikeville Ind. has a reciprocal agreement with Pike County Schools for 130 students only. This number was lower this year by the Pike County School Board. " Take it or leave it" The state tax money only follows if a agreement exist...If student number 131 comes to Pikeville Ind. in the up coming school year he or she will have to pay apxx.$4800 to attend school. The state money defers back to the state funds. If he or she is within the 1-130 number and live in Pike County, they pay $800 per year

I knew Knox and Corbin had one, but there have been athletic transfer problems in the past between CHS/LC and CHS/WCHS. This kind of goes against what you were saying, 4chs.

 

Was it because they (the powers that be) thought the moves were motivated by athletics only? It confused me when it happened because of the agreement.

Without naming names, can you enlighten that situation, 4chs?
