2009 Middlesboro

Featured Replies

What does Middlesboro need to do to improve in 2009? What do they need to keep doing to be successful? Remember, please be constructive.

I know they lost alot of Sr's from last year or atleast Hunter Adams who was there work horse, but I look for M'boro to finish 2nd in the District again behind Corbin!

The program seems to have fallen off in the last few years. They must improve defensively. Teams score on them way too easily.

I agree, but I do see them beating Knott and Leslie easy again this year...

I agree. The offense generally gets the job done, but on defense blitzing 7-9 and dropping back 2-4 just doesn't get it done without all staters at all positions. Seems like its a short gain or a 30-40 yd gain every play.

Wish they'd get a coach that knew how to coach defense.

I've heard Middlesboro and Bell County no longer play each other...is that true? What happened? That used to be one of the state's premier rivalries...

This will be the 5th year that they have not played.

What happened?? I remember driving through Bell County one year when the Bell County - Middlesboro game was the same weekend as UK - U of L, and the local TV news devoted about 60 seconds to UK-U of L and most of its newscast to Bell-Middlesboro. It was amazing.

Very sad. Rivalries like this can be the focal point of the year, and lots of fun - especially when both teams are competitive.

I would have to a gree I know alot of M-boro faithfull would love to see it renewed I know the same on our end. Maybe soon it will happen again.

The lost rivalry is sad. What is puzzling is to see M'boro playing Johnson Central and Knox Central this year when they (Mainly Roark) flat-out refuse to play Bell. It is like not wrestling a 700pound grizzly but taking on his 2 600 pound little brothers.:idunno:

IDK the reason they don't play for sure but I asked Kenny Roark like 3 or 4 years ago why we don't play Bell County any more and he told me straight up that "we don't need to play them" and that "someday we'll play them again".

M'boro not competitive or "scared" to play em isn't true , even with being one of the smallest 2A schools in the state we most of the time play up in our out of district games , like last season we played 3 5A schools , 1 6A school and a 3A school.

Middlesboro was not competitive the last 4 or 5 years they played. I haven't seen anything from M'boro that would make me think they could compete with Bell the last 4 or 5 years. I think not being able to compete is the biggest reason not to play. It was such a hated rivalry that IMO the Middlesboro staff could not handle getting beat soundly by Bell Co. every year. What both teams lose is a huge gate. When the 2 teams played the stands were always packed.
