I'm looking at the list of schools this tournament is targeting, and it is interesting to say the least. I especially took note of this one, because it's where I am: Region Five – Bardstown, Thomas Nelson, Hart County, Elizabethtown, LaRue County, Adair County, Taylor County, Nelson County, John Hardin, Marion County Bardstown is back in All A Classic competition this year, as consolidations have dropped them into the bottom 125 in enrollment in the state (not 120 as the article linked in the OP states), and Bardstown has a long history of success in the All A. Given their 'druthers, I'd say they stick with the All A. Also in the 5th Region are essentially the top four favorites this year to take the overall region crown: John Hardin (currently T20 on BGP), Adair Co., LaRue Co. and E'town (past SW16 winner), as well as Taylor Co., the 3-time defending region champ. Bardstown is a little down from what they're used to this year, but they are also a regular contender for the overall 5th Region title. Examining this list some more finds historic statewide powerhouses such as: • LexCath (No.13 BGP and a past SW16 winner) • Warren Central (past SW16 winner, 11 region titles) • Paducah Tilghman (No.12 BGP and winner of 26 region titles) • Holmes (SW16 winner and a slew of region titles to its credit — more if you count Covington and/or Covington Grant with those) • Mason Co. (15 region titles and 2 SW16 crowns, generally the dominant team in the 10th) Corbin and Clay Co. (each with state titles and historically the 2 dominant teams in the 13th) • Ashland (historically the dominant team in the 16th, with a state title to its credit) Sooooo … what again is a tournament such as this hoping to accomplish for the Webster Countys and Union Countys and similar-type schools around the state? Don't Union County's best winter athletes opt for wrestling anyway?

5th Region All A Classic changes: Bardstown at Campbellsville first-round boys and girls games are moved to Thursday. Bethlehem v. Green Co. semifinal boys and girls games at Fort Knox are also moved to Thursday. The winners of B'town-C'ville games will play at Fort Knox against the host Eagles on Friday, with the finals moved to Saturday. Also, depending on how things play out in the Bethlehem-Green Co. games, the rescheduled Nelson Co. at Bethlehem boys/girls DH for Saturday is in danger of being moved again. In addition, tonight's Butler at Nelson Co. game has been cancelled and probably won't be made up, but there's still a chance.

I also recall that All A Classic when the ice bomb hit across the state, and Bardstown ended up playing Shelby Valley in front of a mostly empty gym on a Sunday. I had to watch the Steelers win the Super Bowl at some crummy hotel in Richmond (not that this was a bad thing) because there was no way I was trying to drive home on the ice, since I couldn't make it back to Bardstown in time and I wasn't gonna get loaded at Hooters and try to figure it out afterward.

Certain things need to be played. You rarely see any college games cancelled unless it's a snow/icemageddon. For something like the LIT, take extra caution, but play it, even if it's in front of an empty gym like when Stone Cold and The Rock faced off in an empty arena at halftime of that one Super Bowl.

I don't get the hang-up about playing games on Thursdays or Saturdays. Would this be as big a deal if it wasn't for that book that got turned into a movie then a TV series? And don't the players understand that most HS field lights are horrible, so it makes it even harder for their local reporters to get decent pics of them? Play at daytime on Saturday afternoon and you can actually see the kids' faces through the helmets.

Dang, that's a murder district for my local teams. You're better at this than I am. Is there no way to create a district with Bardstown, NC, TNHS, E'town and LaRue? Because it's a highly logical district, geographically.

I live in Bardstown, and sometimes I get good info. Not always, though.

Some already do during the lead-up to Fall Break.

There is also a prevailing rumor that once TNHS gets shut down, Bethlehem will buy the property and turn it into the 5th Region's version of LexCath and LCA. Those are rumors. What is fact is that NC Schools enrollment has been declining for a decade, and Bethlehem and Bardstown are growing. It's why Bardstown had to move up to 3A in FB.

Only if the Franklin Co. schools go as well. It makes no sense for them to be in the 11th, and Anderson Co. to be in the 8th.

From an extremely selfish point of view, please yes give me Bardstown, NC and TNHS in the same district.

The best rumor about Thomas Nelson HS is that because of declining enrollment at NC Schools is that whomever is the new super will be welcomed to shut down TNHS and make it a one-school county system like it used to be. These are just persistent rumors I've heard. I have no clue if this will actually happen. But the bottom line is Nelson Co. did not need TNHS, even though it's a great school. That school was built on a bunch of garbage being foisted upon the folks from back in 2008 when the whole BRAC (base realignment and closure) stuff with the wild expectation that Ft. Knox was going to get thousands of people stationed there that never really materialized. NC Schools folks at the time bought into this idea that there would be a ridiculous amount of development on the NW end of Nelson Co, and the schools would not have enough room for all the new people, so they built TNHS. That development and population growth in NW Nelson Co. never happened.

Depends on who gets hired as the new super for NC Schools.

True. Region champs 1959. And not to take away from any of the outstanding players throughout the years from either school (many of whom I know well), it often begs the question of why doesn't the school try something else to find its niche? Think of this in terms of how Woodford Co., LaRue Co. and Union Co. are historically known for one sport, but it is at least one they are great at, and have the hardware to show for it. Gallatin Co. made a trial run at wrestling when I was a middle-schooler, but it soon turned into WWF/NWA 'rasslin, and they dumped it.

Dang, I been short-changing Grant Co. as I was unaware of the Braves' region title in 1957. Given all that, yep, definitely a "basketball school," even though the 8th has been historically dominated by Shelby Co. teams, and later Oldham and Scott county teams.

Not as well as they think, it seems, to be calling Grant Co. a "basketball school," given their history. I guess they could be known for something if their girls' teams were still called "The Squaws."

And why would that be? Grant Co. has no real history of basketball success, other than 1979. Schools that consider themselves "basketball schools" when their history in hoops is filled with failure make me laugh, heartily.

And even if it was about losses, I still don't blame him. He was not put in a position to succeed the way things went down after Egli left.

The problem with "all-or-nothing" policies such as these is that they fail to take into account the concept that just because the roads are a mess at 6am doesn't mean they still will be a 3:30pm.
