Obviously we have less #1 seeds and more #2 seeds this year with the new system. This HAS to be directly related with the second round rematch games IMO.

It's not an overly surprising occurence...over the past few years it seems that you find the same teams at this point on the whole over and over.

I would like to pose a question though... Which win does everyone feel is more impressive, Mercer completely dominating Larue.... or Belfry dismantling a #3 Middlesboro? One thing the final score of Belfry/Middlesboro doesn't show was that Belfry was up 42-12 early in the 3rd quarter and ran the fullback dive nearly exclusively the remainder of the game. The Pirates could very have easily scored 60+ on Middlesboro. Either way, both wins are super impressive for this far in the year and the quality of teams playing.

A sidenote... I think Middlesboro could possibly have been one of the best possible teams for Belfry to beat for three reasons. 1) They were a very Senior laden team.. just like Russell. 2) They were much faster than us at the skill positions, just like Mercer 3) They spread us out and challenged our DB's, just like Owensboro Catholic

This will be a classic... This Belfry team is a different animal than the 2003, 2004, and 2005 teams. They are more fullback dependent, but I feel our backs hit the hole harder than any of the teams of the past few years. Alot of people forget that Belfry returned ALOT of players from the team who was literally a "butt flinch" away from defeating Russell last year and probably winning the state title. Belfry doesn't have that true speedback like a Jones or Maynard, but I feel that this team is better at this point in time than the 2003 State Championship team and considerably better than last year's team. Defensively Belfry is undersized compared to years past, but very quick getting to the ball. Our secondary still has mental collapses, but I feel this edition of the Belfry defensive backfield is the best of the previous years for coverage. CANNOT WAIT for Friday!

One that is for certain...Coach Edge knows how to coach his team through the playoffs... 11-2 in post season play since 2004!

Middlesboro turned it over 4 times... 3 INT, 1 Fumble... And Belfry has caused alot of teams to have their "worst" games..maybe its just luck:rolleyes: Middlesboro did not sustain a single true scoring drive against Belfry all night. In order to beat great teams like belfry you have to be able to put together drives, not rely on the homerun. As for penalties, Middlesboro had 8 for 82 yards Belfry had 7 for 75 yards... the Pirates made some stupid penaties themselves.

HAHA... the majority of our family lives in North Carolina and it used to be that we would go see them for the Holiday... with Belfry's success over the years they have come to expect not to see us. I think that maybe we should get all the Belfry fans and Russell fans together and have an official BGP Leftover Tailgate HAHA

I totally agree but they reminded me more of Pburg circa 2001-2004... especially that veer offense. I don't think Mboro's defense was nearly as good as a typical Pburg team, but Middlesboro had much more team speed.

I have to give some special tips of the hat to the Belfry O-line.... those boys gave good surges all night as Middlesboro was forced to get sucked in on the FB dive.. then Corey Chapman was an absolute beast for the second straight week. This kid runs with such prupose... definately one of the most underrated backs in Belfry history. The kid has gained almost 1200 yards now on the season, as wellas rushing for over 1000 last season as the #3 option. Hats off also to Elkins... I already mentioned he was 3/3 for over 120 yards and 3 TD,,, but I felt the way he controlled the offense, controlled the clock, and carried out his playfakes really made us so tough to contain. I have been on this kids' bandwagon since early in the year.. there are times he looks like a sophomore... but here lately he is more of a Senior out there! Also, Ivan Lee. The jackets ATTACKED Lee tonight on defense time after time... when we needed a big play though he was there to respond with the moster hit on the bubble screen that he had already been burnt on once. This has turned into a very special team... and I have not seen a Belfry backfield hit the holes as hard as this squad!
