Manual was definately outmatched in this one. You could tell the Crimsons are very young.... On the bright side the big TE Miller is a very good ballplayer, and the tailback #5 may not have great speed but definately runs hard and doesn't fold over on contact.

Does St. X have a stadium on site? I know they are in the process of building one but I wasnt for sure if they already had a facility in place. I am planning on attending the LexCath game Friday and need to know.... I also presume that it is off Poplar Level..correct?

I am ecstatic as well, but I also know how quickly that excitement can fade with one loss at the hands of an Ashland team who everyone suddenly thinks we will walk over. Thanks Watusi... I am actually a veteran on here who has been lurking in the shadows for a while now. But, this is going to be a lifeline for me now that my distance to CAM has been extended an additional hour.

Wasn't there a thorough discussion in the prelude of this game talking about how the crowd noise wouldn't affect NCC any? Well it appears as though the Pirates have some potential this year, especially on defense. What I want to know is can the fumble bug be corrected and is it just me or did the o-line not seem to play to the level that they were being expect to.

Big win for the Pirates..... and for AA football.... guess the 1A Champion isn't going to be far superior to a AA championship team after all. Anyone have the stat lines from last night?

Gish, You have been a thorn in Belfry's side the past few seasons, but I can honestly ssay if there were one player on a Pburg team the past two years that the Pirate fans respected the most and enjoyed wtahcing (whether making an amazing catch, a huge hit, or 20+ cutbacks on a run) it had to be you. This post exemplifies what it means to be a Mountain Football player and your maturity will make the transition to the enxt level even easier!

Cullop also has the speed to play bigger college ball... to be as big as he is he can really move as well. Belfry's best play this year has been the slant off tackle, it's easy to see why when Marcum and Cullop has their man completely out of the picture everytime.

AN AMAZING POST BY SCRIBE! To me oneijoe just summed it up and on the other thread I posted how what impressed me most was how well 2A did playing up.... but joe, as I stated in the other thread do you see district 6, 7 ,or 8 in 2A mentioned as toughest districts? Odd considering probably the best teams in the state played in these districts last year, makes you think that somehow those computers do have some type of geopraphy bias huh?

Just to make a point, I really dont put too much stock in any numbers that are based on either the lit or cantrell Ratings,, as I stated in another thread any rankings that had North Hardin rated higher than breathitt County have major issues.

Excellent posts guys, especially that last one by you westsider! :thumb: I still stand by my assumption that on a neutral field, a one shot deal, that Breathitt would win and I'd take them 28-14 as I predicted already. Westsider you point out how good of an offense you faced in Tilghman, Hoptown, Danville, and Beechwood...but how many of the above teams pass the ball 40 times a game and have a 1000 yard rushing QB to boot? Mayfield had a tremendous defense last year, in fact I would consider their defense the Roy Jones Jr of KY HS Football... it was the best pound for pound (menaing once you consider the class disparity)... but just from watching both teams in person i think Breathitt would have a speed advantage and be able to stretch the Cardinal thin especially in a one game setting on a turf field...JMO Now if they played game two... I dont think that Breathitt would have any easier time whatsoever, in fact i think in a multiple game setting Mayfield would become the better team as they could adjust to what they were facing. I think the trump card lands in the fact that Breathitt's defense was pretty darn impressive too... Great discussion though, hope I havent offended anyone.

I am also willing to bet it put a smile on oneijoe's face to see those numbers considering he originated this whole topic with his "Why doesn't 2A get any respect" thread. Excellent job though! oneijoe, I see where it'd be easy to assume my position as stating the top 5 of 2A is better... I think everyone can see my bias towards 2A. And thanks for echoing my sentiments on the Russell game. In another thread I said they were by far the second best 2A team, and I was told what would Mason County say to that, well I think 2-0 against Mason County last year is proof enough. Mason had one of the state's top offenses and Russell didnt have a problem shutting it down, then for Breathitt to pretty much score all 28 points in the equivalent of one half of football shows how awesome the Bobcats could be when that offense was clicking. Now for a real conversation starter, could the top 5 teams in the eastern semi-state of 2A be better than the top 5 1A teams this year? lol I say this jokingly but when you think of it Sheldon Clark, Belfry, Prestonsburg, Breathitt, Middlesboro, and Russell could very well be the top 6 teams in 2A this year.

for what it's worth westsider I think from 1-5 A was slightly better than AA.... the point I have been trying to convey is that after you get past Mayfield, Danville, Beechwood, and NewCath.... AA football is better than A.. And as for the Breathitt - Russell game...look at what Breathitt did in the second half... the offense was downright deadly in that second half. And I myself wouldn't be offended one bit if my team's defense was compared to Russell's..by season's end they were one heck of a defensive team, look at how well they shut down Mason County. Breathitt's offense scored only 7 points against the team I support, but most of that can be credited to muddy conditions and Belfry holding them on 4th down and short numerous times. For the record Ashland's offense had their QB Ryne Salyer when they played Russell... with Salyer in the offense Ashland was a very solid offensive team, then he got injured. It's pretty pointless to stick on this subject since we can only specualte how the matchup would have went, Breathitt's pass happy offense may have put 40 on Mayfield, Mayfield's defense may have shut them out, we'll never know. But it's just my opinion after watching both teams in person that Breathitt could be able to move the ball and put soem points up, but nothing like what they did to most other teams.

point taken westsider:thumb: for the record when naming Breathitt County as a superior champion I was referring to the rest of the class in 2A, not in terms of against Mayfield, Beechwood, etc By no means would Breathitt do to Mayfield what they did to Corbin, heck the two rounds leading up to the Corbin matchup were the only two times the entire year Breathitt was in danger. An overtime shocker vs. without a doubt the second best AA team in the state Russell, and a 21-0 win over Belfry where Breathitt lead 7-0 with just over a minute to go and Belfry had the ball with a chance to tie or win. What was lost with Breathitt County's team last year was the fact everyone focused on how their offense could put up 40 points a night, and how their defense was drastically overlooked. Breathitt had maybe the third best offensive team in the entire state (aside from Trinity and Male) but they also had a state championship callibur defense. If it weren't for that defense then the Bobcats would have made an earlier exit when a solid Belfry defense and Mother Nature held Breathitt County to one touchdown that was setup by what should have beenan interception that was missed. The assumption of winning "soundly" seems pretentious but I stick by it, I could see Breathitt beating Mayfield something like 28-14, by no means a blowout, but nonetheless a win by two touchdowns. I consider a 14 point win to be "sound",, even though the game could very well be much closer than the final score. I think 2A was better than 1A last year, and will be better this year as well. When looking at 1A, the strength of the class was provided by Mayfield, Danville, Beechwood, Middlesboro, and NewCath. 2A on the other hand had a superior champion (Breathitt) who i felt could have beat fairly soundly any of the above mentioned 1A teams, then 2A also had Russell, Mason County, and Belfry who I feel would matchup well with any of the top 1A teams last year. Then 2A also has a solid core in Corbin, Prestonsburg, Owensboro Catholic, Lloyd, and Larue County who would wipe the floor with any other 1A team you could name. Even more still would be teams like Madison Southern, Whitesburg, Fleming County, Taylor County, Monroe County, and Glasgow who would also be able to match up with most 1A teams you would like to pit them against. Bottom line is 1A had maybe 5 top quality ball clubs while 2A had anywhere from 8-12.

Question: Is it possible to document the recent history of a school's football history, say the past ten years, and still be considered for one of these scholarships? I just dont have the resources to get the entire history of my school's footbal history because it is so long...but if given the past ten years could do an exceptional job. This arguement also holds clout in that since this contest is catered to high school and college students,,, we wont be as familiar with the distant past games as older members of the board. I would really love to win this because I thoroughly enjoy this site but when payment time comes near I don't know if I will be able to cut it,, I have alot of expenses in life right now and with all the responsibilities that go alogn with my college life it would make matters hard. I also guarantee if we can do it over the past ten years I will not disappoint you one bit.
