Brentwood Academy (TN) 49 Manual 6

Featured Replies

Manual was definately outmatched in this one. You could tell the Crimsons are very young....

On the bright side the big TE Miller is a very good ballplayer, and the tailback #5 may not have great speed but definately runs hard and doesn't fold over on contact.

Yeah it was really a matter of Brentwood was bigger stronger and faster as a team than Manual. Manual had some bright spots to work from and was young but I think that they ran the plays ok for the first game but we were sorely outmanned athletically. I think Manual will have some brighter days ahead but tonight it was pretty ugly has far as matchups were concerned.

Manual will be OK. Joe will get this very young team back on track. Not many teams in Ky, if any could match up with Brentwood.

This I disagree with...

IMO Brentwood was good...but not that good. As I watched the game Brentwood reminded me of Scott County to be honest. In fact the best team I saw tonight was Male.

I'd say Brentwood would be a top 5 4A team, and top 10 overall in the state.

Manual's QB played with heart but he looked and also performed very young. Alot of this can be blamed on the fact that the Crimson's were getting eaten alive up front (their biggest issue IMO), but at the same time I felt the QB rushed throws and forced things that weren't there.

The Crimson's special teams are subject as well.

Thank goodness they put one at least one TD up. Still, this is Manual's worse loss since when? Male or St. X of '00? Possibly longer.

Either way, this can't be good for the confidence of this young team. I can only hope they have the heart to improve every day so they can prove themselves to the next opponent (Eastern I believe in this case... a much better match for Manual than Brentwood).

If Brentwood played in Kentucky, we would have the big 4. Don't fool yourself.

Not so fast my friend. I am familiar with and respect BA but I wonder if they had to compete with "real" Catholic schools and public schools like Male if they would be a successful as they have been. I think they would have a tough time playing by the ever changing KHSAA rules as well. They are a fine program, but they would have to earn their way into the Big Three like anyone else.

I would agree with this, especially after seeing them first hand. There is not another team in this area that could match the size, strngth and speed that Brentwood showed last night. In no way am I "knocking" any team in this city, just expressing what I saw on the field last night. That O-Line and D-Line was very impressive with their size and mobility. (Not to mention how fundamentally sound they were). Their skill postiton players were also impressive, a very nice D-1 running back with combination of size, strength and speed. Several other D-1 commits already to the likes of Auburn. The coach (Flatt) is the winningest coach in Tennessee HS football for a reason, so "don't kid yourself" he must know a thing or two about what he is doing. (Regardless of whether he has to play "the real Catholic" schools and the Males or not).

Fortunately for a young team, what Manual needs to do now is get better week to week and hopefully not sustain the injuries that would force even younger players into the lineup. On defense there were, at times, 2 sophomores and a freshman in the game (first half, not after the score was out of reach). On offense, of course the QB is a sophomore as was the FB, and Center. Not alot of Varsity experience on the field for a first game against such a formidable opponent. Still the QB tossed some nice passes with a couple being uncaught behind the BA defense. There were enough positives to build on for a young team. I would not be surprised to see this young group bounce back in a couple tough games later in the season due to this experience!

I think the Brentwood Academy fans would tell you that the "real" Catholic schools would have to earn their way into Tennessee's Super 7 as well.

Brentwood Academy has been title-less since taking titles in 1995 and 1996 against large public schools, and in large part due to your friends at MBA, but BA is one of the South's top programs the past 25 years. I don't think you'll find many, if any, neutral observers in the region who would question BA's ability to have been successful in Kentucky over the years.

I'm a rival of BA, but they deserve a "heckuva" lot more respect than that.

Thanks for that perspective rollredroll. I had hoped for an angle from someone on that side of the border with knowledge on the football situation in Tennessee. Not just the normal biased responses we ALWAYS get here.

I expect next someone will question the strength of TN football due to the recent history in the KY-TN all star game. Then maybe you might also be able to shed some light on other Interstate games played with TN-GA and where most of the elite TN players opt to play their All-Star games.

How big is Brentwood Academy? Are they an all-boys school?

Well, I looked up the BA website and I'll reply to my own post. Brentwood had only 747 students in grades 6-12 last school year. They are co-ed. I'm guessing they would be a 1A or 2A school in Kentucky.

They have football for grades 6-8, as well as high school students, so they have their own built-in feeder system.

With that in mind, I'd say they could hold their own (at least within their class) if they played in the Bluegrass State.

No disrespect, but I still wonder if BA could survive under KHSAA rules. I still wonder if they would be as successful if their playoff road took them into games with Trinity, X and Male every year. Sure they would win some, but they wouldn't have had the success they have had. The Catholic school system in your part of the country is all but gone. The last time I saw BA they were defeated (close game) by a Cinci St. X team that didn't even make the playoffs. Meanwhile Trinity was beating the eventual Ohio D1 Champs at the same event by 24 points. Not arguing that they are a fine program, I'm just not ready to crown them just yet. I wonder how it would have gone last night if the matchups were flipped? I'm sure they would have found the sledding a little tougher against Mr. Beaumont and company.

Am I correct? didn`t Brentwood Academy get suspended about 4 years ago from Tn. Playoffs for 3-4 years? what was the history to that?

Brentwood Academy was the dominant program in 2A in Tennesee's old three-class system. They now play in a much tougher division, with (among others) Montgomery Bell Academy, Memphis Christian Brothers, Memphis University School and the two Chattanooga boarding schools, McCallie and Baylor.

I've seen Brentwood's program play several times over the last 20 years. I can say that year in and year out, Brentwood would be competitive with the likes of Trinity, St. Xavier and Male.

If Brentwood, and that's an "if," isn't quite in the same category as Trinity and St. Xavier, it would be that they lack the numbers in the program that those two schools enjoy.
