That's amazing. Perry Central didn't look very good last year and was basically a two-man team with one of them graduating.

I was concerned the excitement would be too much. I was looking for a Mama Bear passed out on the visitors' bleachers. I didn't think there was any way he could make it all the way and outrun the entire Leslie offense. It was very impressive. I can think of very few freshmen who have started at linebacker in Harlan County the last 20 years or so. The defense played well overall, especially against the run, giving up only 2 yards. Jordan Calton did a good job of getting pressure on the quarterback. Cody Taylor made a lot of plays at cornerback.

Other than the quarterback and one other player, the Williamsburg middle school team was pretty bad two years ago. I think they were worse last year, so it sounds like this is their last chance for a good team in a while.

Jamille Stewart, I think. He was real impressive last summer before getting hurt.

Saying Stepp is the greatest player of his generation is "dissing" Phil Cox and maybe some others in this region. He was a great high school player and no disrespect is intended, but to say something like that as if it's a fact is disturbing and untruthful.

We had this discussion before. Stepp was a great player, but he wasn't the best of that era, even in eastern Kentucky. Phil Cox was Mr. Basketball in 1981 and was the all-time leading scorer at Vanderbilt.

You're usually real good in your football breakdowns, Daddy Cat, but you were talking or something during this one. Harlan County scored in the first quarter, before the JV played. Neither team scored in the second quarter. Harlan County had eight first downs overall in the varsity part of the scrimmage.

Just like in education, money means a lot. Some of the more affluent communities/schools often do pretty well.

Wow, that's a big win to begin the Larkey Era in London. It sounded like Pulaski was supposed to have the best team in school history from what I saw on television.

I didn't keep up as closely as usual, but I did keep play by play and that's what I had. I thought Harlan County's defense looked pretty good after the two breakdowns on the long runs. That's not to take anything from Corbin. I'm sure they'll be one of the top 2A teams in the state again and those were two great runs. Just because Harlan County had people out of place didn't mean those runs were easy. Once they got an opening, they were gone. I think getting Dylon Smith back would help erase some mistakes like that and maybe turn them into 20 yard runs instead of 50 or 75.

I thought Harlan County's defense was much better after the two long touchdown runs. I only had Corbin with one first down in the second of the two 15-minute periods and four in the scrimmage. Harlan County had some trouble moving the ball, especially through the air, but they had a couple of pretty good drives, including the one that ended with Marcus McMillian's 22-yard touchdown run.

Middlesboro should be competitive with Green, Cowan and Powers returning for their senior seasons. They will have to rebuild after that though because they may start five seniors and didn't have a very good JV team last year.

They should be decent but probably not a regional contender.

Tim Parks is coaching. He is the athletic director and is a Clay County graduate. They don't have a lot of depth, but they may have five seniors starting.

I believe Bell was winless the year before the new school opened. They lost to Cawood for the sub-district championship the first three years of the new school (84-86) before breaking through in 87 in a close game at Cawood.

How many did South graduate? I thought they had six or seven seniors.
