Agree.. This ranking makes little sense. Franklin lost to Lex Cath but are ranked above them. Understanding the limitation, I suppose a subjective poll still makes the most sense IMO.

I don't think Ashland gets many transfers from WV. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong. Ashland is probably a top ten city in Kentucky population wise, thus they should have a good football team. I really don't see how the relation to Huntington WV is relevant. If there had been some significance, Im sure I would be aware of it. Congrats Ashland. You will have to pick it up to compete with Johnson Central, but I certainly think the Tomcats are in for a promising season.

Wow. What a thread! I would say Kasey is all but a lock to play D-1AA ball, so Matt Thomas better be getting some serious looks to say "he will player at a higher level"

I agree that the Harmon kid is impressive. I am not sure he is better than Kasey Clark (assuming we get there), or Matt Thomas. Belfry is definately not big on the D-line, but every since Mickey (or Haywood, not sure who) decided to move toward a smaller but more athletic defensive front, Belfry has been improved on defense. I think its led to more penetration and more negative plays, whereas the larger Belfry front 5 fronm the late 90's was more of a stop you on 3rd and 3 team.

lol... Thats not what I meant. I love how people emphasize what they want to believe is the main point. I agree that we won't win if we fumble 8 times. I guess that was a VERY sloppy game. Ok, lets say 4 and lose 2? Good enough?

I suppose I am "the fan" who is saying Belfry will win in a cake walk. I believe I said that Belfry could play a "somewhat sloppy" game and WIN (not win in a cakewalk!) What is my definition of somewhat sloppy? Putting the ball on the ground several times, kinda like we did against E-Town in 03 when we fumbled 8 times and lost 4. I am certainly not saying Pikeville doesn't have a solid team who will compete, but I just think Belfry is better and has been better, especially on the LOS for several years past. I think its a trend that bares mentioning. As far as those who thinks its "classless" to mention the 5 in a row, I do so BECAUSE this is a rivarly game! I do the same thing to Prestonsburg every year after we beat them. I guess I consider Pikeville and Prestonsburg "big boy" programs who can handle this. You won't hear me calling out East Ridge or Magoffin Co. about Belfry's winning streak over them. As far as I'm concerned, "class" can be maintained without having to say "Good luck to both team! Yay for football"

I can't wait. Haven't been able to make a game since week 1 and am axious to see Belfry "as is" against a solid opponent. I don't mean to come off as arrogant. I do expect Belfry to win the game. I am not one who can't "take off the blinders". In week one, I predicted a loss for the Pirates. I just don't see how CoachJ (as much as I respect him) can make up the difference in one year. Homefield should play an important role. I think If Pikeville can force a few punts early on, the game will be closer than I have said to this point. I still think this Belfry team has more depth than any in 5 years or better, and that will be the difference.

Just from a quick cursory glance at the posts, I have noticed more than one saying "Pburg simply wore down." IMO this has been an unfortunate trend for the Blackcats over the past 5 years. The two state title teams from Belfry were probably not quite as talented overall as Prestonsburg, but seemed to be better conditioned and a little more adept to grinding for 4 quarters.

Zeus, What you say is true for the most part, but much of the personel on Friday will be the same or at least similar for both squads. Can last season at least be relevant?

Thats better guys. :thumb: Belfry has to do more than show up. I was hoping for some REAL analysis. If my forecast is wrong, then tell me why Pikeville fans (or Belfry fans for that matter). I was offering my viewpoint in hopes that someone would have something better to say than. "guess we should rest our starters"

I made my post @ 3 and not one person has commented. I expected better from a Pikeville v. Belfry thread. Maybe the 5 victories in a row have tempered this once hot rivalry?

PantherDad, I doubt seriously the coaching staff feels the same as me, nor the players. They are preparing like Pikeville is Ironton or Russell I'm sure. Still, I think my analysis will hold true. Belfry may not have the explosiveness of past teams, but they can still take it the distance. If I remember correctly, Corey Chapman broke off some LONG runs and outpaced the SAME Honakers, etc that will play this Friday. It was pretty shocking how large the holes were last season for Pirate backs. Pikeville will have to play much better on the LOS and tackle better than last season. I believe Pikeville is improve offensively, especially in the running game. That being said, Belfry will be running fresh body after fresh body in the game all night long on defense. This is the deepest Pirate defense I have seen in a LONG time. Pikeville better be VERY well conditioned. I would be surprised if the Belfry running game is shut down. IMO Pikeville needs to play as solid as possible and hope for a turnover by one of the Pirate backs. Barring such turnovers, I foresee the Big Red Machine simply grinding the valiant but overmatched Panthers into the pretty artificial turf as the game wears on. Just one man's prediction. Take it for what you will.

I think most people expect Shelby Valley to win in a more impressive fashion. Shelby Valley certainly won the 4 seed this past Friday, but based on this game, Prestonsburg looks poised to take the 3 seed.

Im gonna say Woodford continues to play well. Woodford will likely lose to Henry Clay and Scott Co. but win out otherwise. 3 seed for the Yellowjackets

Belfry has too many big strong athletic kids. Pikeville will lose the LOS like they have for the past FIVE years. I honestly believe Belfry can play a semi-sloppy game and win. If they play well and don't turn the ball over the should win in decisive fashion. Pikeville's only chance is to score on a couple big plays and hope Belfry fumbles all night long.

I like 28-7 as well. Belfry wins.

Based on that schedule, I see wins against Ohio Co and Davies Co. The competition is significantly more stiff otherwise.
