Thanks to all for the kind words and to 3pt for starting the thread. Bee is quite appreciative and humbled by being presented this award. It will be a good week in May during the presentation.....Bee gets this honor and her older sister will receive her diploma with the '07 seniors at UK. Himmel....Bee really looks forward to teaming up with Emily again for the KY/Indiana All-Star events. We'll actually get to practice a few times before we play this year. Rebecca's mom here again..... Thank all of you for your well-wishes and words of encouragement for my daughter. She is dealing with the pain of this loss as gracefully as she has with all other aspects of her life. Rebecca absolutely loves the game of basketball, especially in Kentucky, and loves Scott Co, it's coaches and fans. But, above all, she adores all of the young girls in the State who have looked up to her, approached her for autographs and pictures, and have sent her numerous e-mails and fan mail. She loves working with the young kids and has been such a mentor to several of them. When I arrived home from work yesterday, her father and I spoke with her about these comments and the incident. She immediately broke down in tears and said that she couldn't believe she actually did such a thing. She said that she acted before she thought and was so numb from the pain of the loss that she really didn't realize it had happened until it was too late. She can not believe that she actually did it. This is so far removed from how Rebecca Gray really is and how she conducts herself, that she is totally devasted. The point that hit her the hardest was the girls in the stands who were there to watch her play. She works with school children the second half of the school day as a Teacher's Assistant, and she adores kids. She cannot stand the thoughts of having someone who looks up to her having witnessed her have a lapse in good judgement. As Rebecca's parents, and on her behalf, she has asked us to sincerely apologize to all who may have witnessed this take place. Rebecca is nothing if not honest and will admit her mistakes. As parents we have raised her this way and will accept nothing less. She realizes that she is held to different standards, as a result of all her accomplishments, and that she must always be a positive role model. This is tough to ask and expect of a 17 year old kid, however she now knows that is is paramount. As I stated yesterday, I did not see any of this take place, however, it bothered me enough that I wanted to ask her about it. She never faltered, nor did she make excuses. Everyone please keep in mind, this is a young lady very passionate about the game she has lived and breathed since she was 8 years old. She reacted in hurt and agony, without thinking, and has learned a great lesson in life that extends way beyond the game of basketball. After our talk, she now realizes that no matter the situation, she must always exhibit sportsmanship, character, and honor. She has played her entire career without even the most minor incident, until this happened. She wants everyone to know that she cannot begin to tell you how sorry she is and that it will never happen again. This is Rebecca's mom here. It is really a shame that I am having to get on here and state the FACTS to defend my child, who happens to be hurting terribly right now. My time would be much better served attending to her at this moment. But I cannot just let this go. Anyone who knows Rebecca, knows that she does not behave in this manner. She takes every team and every team's fans best punch game in and game out and does it with grace and class. In the closing seconds of the game, I was on the floor, out of bounds, ready to attend to my baby as soon as the game ended. I did not want a repeat of last year where she was left crying on the floor in the middle of the Catholic celebration, and had a large color picture of it in the paper the next day. This is tough for a BARELY 17 year old KID to deal with! As soon as the buzzer sounded, Rebecca pulled her jersey over her face and went to the end of SC's bench and collapsed on the floor in front of the water cooler. I had my eyes on her the entire time as I was making my way to her. I was on the same end of the floor that she was as the game ended and was to her in mere seconds. When I reached her, I picked her up off the floor, and helped her toward the locker room. On the way, she recived hugs and pats on the back from several Lex Cath players and Keyla Snowden in particular came over and told her to keep her head up that she was a great player. She also received a BIG HUG from Tony the LC Assistant coach and he told her that she was a heckuva player. When we reached half court, 3 SC Assistant coaches helped her the rest of the way to the locker room. She was the last player off the floor and by no means "left for the locker room and refused to shake hands". She simply went to the end of the bench, out of the line of firw of the cameras, so she didn't have another picture to remind her of the pain that she will feel for a long time. She acknowledged their team and coaches and she was NEVER unattended. By the way, I was the one in the red hooded sweater having to practically drag her across the floor because she was so distraught!!! Rebecca did speak with the referees with 4 seconds left and LC on the foul line, she said she asked them " how they were going to sleep that night because of the foul descrepency". A kid just wanting an answer to something she felt had occured. I assure you, had she "carried on" the way it has been told, she would have been T'd up and I probably would have marched on the floor and dealt with her myself. This was much different from the tale of her yelling at them that they were horrible!!!! She would never and has never disrespected anyone in this manner. Even when she has been provoked by other teams fans and at times players. She has always remained level-headed and would never call negative attention to herself, school, or teammates. I have been a frequent reader of this site, but have never posted myself. It is a shame that a kid who has given her heart and soul, never taken one day off since the 7th grade, other than Thanksgiving and Christmas, and has to play 32 minutes every competitive game, has to endure this type of misleading commentary from adults. I don't get on here game in and game out and post all of the horrible things that are said and done to her by players and fans. And, she handles it with class at a level much greater than most of us could ever do. She is a super young lady on and off the court and has the softest- biggest heart I know. None of us could ever imagine the hurt and pain she must be going through right now. It is really easy to sit back, far removed from the whole thing, at a computer and make these comments about a kid you know nothing about. I would be more than glad to talk to any of you about the facts and what really happened last night, as I had a birdseye view for the entire thing. She has many friends on that lex Cath team, some she has played with in the summer for years. She would NEVER do anything to hurt them or take anything away from them. They won the game and did what they needed to do at crunch time. Rebecca knows that she did all she could and her only regret is that she couldn't do more. She played the ENTIRE game being face guarded at all times, double-teamed when she had the ball, and at the end with the other 4 starters fouled out, triple-teamed, and still had 32 points. She was physically exhausted and wringing wet with sweat and tears when I got to her at the end. It is very unfortunate that a great game and an even more stellar career has to come down to these petty comments from adults. Especially regarding such a wonderful kid, which everyone who knows her can attest. By the way, she has played her entire career without one technical foul, or so much as a warning. Rebecca Gray scored a career high 53 points as Scott County wins a close one at Fern Creek to finish the regular season. In a wild one, both teams re-wrote the single game record as they combined for 210 points. Scott County hosts the 42nd District Tournament, and plays Bryan Station Tuesday night in the first round. How a thread honoring a great player turns into an indirect shot at another player's achievement. Enough said by me.

How sad.

It was a 7 point game at the half, 15 point game after 3 quarters. Not total domination like the final score indicates. Manual continued to press until the end of the game. SC would see it, throw over it, layup......then set up in a 2/3 zone much like they played all night. Manual had a tough shooting night, 33% from the floor, 13% from behind the arc. Both teams mass-subbed with 1:42 to go in the game.

Lady Cardinals Kayla Moses tallied 37 points (2nd best in tournament history) and Rebecca Gray recorded a triple-double (29 pts, 11 ast, 10 reb) in the win. I think we're getting off topic, but I'll respond. "I would not think that Evans's comments, taken as they were, are conclusive evidence of anything." Maybe not, but he has played both Scott County and Rose Hill. "Now, if she can lead her team to state tournament success, that would be some good evidence." Apparently Gray has to lead her team through the toughest region in the state, which includes several top 20 teams and 1 nationally ranked team. She has nothing left to prove. I would contend that other candidates would have more to prove if they currently have a losing record in a weaker region. "But what hurts the RH girls is perception..." I would say moreso that it is their current record and strength of schedule, neither of which is Queen or Terry's fault. They are fine players playing solid basketball with the hand they're dealt. Media bias is not a valid argument. The 11th region has had 1 Ms. Basketball, who was from Western Hills in 1982. It's still the coaches who make the final vote.

It appears Ammons will eclipse some milestones Friday night. If I've figured it right he needs less than 100yds passing to surpass 9,000 career passing yards and approximately 65yds rushing to surpass 3,500 career rushing yards. Good Luck to FC the rest of the season.

Congratulations to Emily from Georgetown.!!!! Himmelfarb congratulations to you and your wife as well. My wife Amy, Rebecca, and myself all wish her well. Now she will get to be teammates with one of the best point guards to come out of this state, Chelsia Lymon.

Himmelfarb, it was great to meet you and your family last night. It was also nice to see Emily and Rebecca playing together. They seemed to become fast-friends. We will definitely have to keep in touch. Rebecca had some Free-throws and shots that she would like to have back last night as well. She finished with 15 points, but had her worst shooting night ever. I think most of the kids were a little tight. Probably a combination of not knowing each other and not being in "season" shape. There were times in the second half that things were forced on the offensive end. That tends to happen when kids have to play together and they really don't know each other, or get to practice first. After the game, Rebecca said she would like to be able to play the game over, now that she knows the girls better. Out of the mouth of babes, wouldn't it be nice if it worked that way. All of the girls did as well as could be expected under the circumstances. They all seemed to get along and things are looking bright for the All-Star team next year. Boone Co. has a couple of excellant players that played with the juniors, Bradley and Brasseaux. I understand that they both will be Soph. We should be hearing a lot from them in the years to come.

Coach Helton was asked to coach the team and have the game at Scott County. As a courtesy, he was allowed to choose 6 players. I'm unsure how the process went for the remaining 8 players. I'm assuming the Lions Club had something already in place when they requested the game. But again, I'm just not sure.

I don't think Coach Helton had the sole decision in the selections, but I do know there were some girls scattered around the state that had prior commitments.
