  1. I did check out some SW hudl and I will admit, Lacey and Wilde are some nice looking DT's. I'm not sure if these are the guys you're talking about. Very very impressive. They aren't outrunning ANY OHS skill guy, but I'd take two DT's like that on my team any day.
  2. I agree Purple Nation. I think Greenwood could potentially be 95% running for the OHS game, but if the Gators don't mix it up a little I think they'll be in for a long night. I do think Greenwood needs to come out and stick to what they do for as long as they can. Maybe I'm wrong, and the Gators won't need to throw the ball at all. I just think at some point Gwood will have to throw it, but when they do they need to be selective. It's a fine line that the Gwood coaches will have to decide in. I think at most Greenwood shouldn't be any less than 85% on the run. It's just hard for me to see a team beating OHS strictly with the run.
  3. Brown, just think how much faster OHS would've been had Rates Lewis been cleared to play for OHS and Shamari Morton had not transferred to Catholic. Also, keep in mind that freshman Chandler Crite opted to go from OMS to Daviess County for high school. I'm not sure Crite would've seen the field at the varsity level at OHS this year, but in the future, he's going to be a difference maker. The crazy thing here is the fastest kid in the Owensboro system right now may be 8th grader Imonte Owsley. I honestly think the kid could return kicks for the varsity level right now. If that kid continues to work hard and do all the little things to elevate himself and his team mates, he could be a major college prospect.
  4. Daddydownsouth, I don't mean to pile on but you do realize you just said that SW has linemen that can outrun two of the top rushers in 5A in Landon Board and TJ James? You add in Kishawn Walker (ESPN Sportscenter Top 10 play last year) Jahlil Barrett, and Tavian Bord and I'm not sure what you're looking at. I'm glad you're posting on here because I love to have as many folks discussing high schools sports as possible. However, if you want to maintain credibility in your posts, you can't make statements like that. If you don't care, then by all means, carry on. Go to Google and search "Owensboro Hudl" and check out the highlights. Its actually a great resource to check out other teams as well. Not trying to pile on man, just trying to help.
  5. Slow???!!! Wow. If you watched OHS and observed a slow team then I'm not sure anything I type will convince you otherwise. I do have a question for you daddydownsouth: which team you've seen would you consider "fast"?
  6. Greenwood doesn't like to pass, but they can at times. I think Greeenwood will have to show the ability to pass if they want to upset OHS. Against Graves, the Eagles freshman QB Ryan Mathis went 12-27 for 165 and that opened up the run for RB Dakota Adams to have a huge night. Graves almost pulled the upset, losing 20-19. I'm not sure Greenwood wants to put the ball in the air 27 times, but the Gators will need to pick and choose some spots to air it out a little. If not, OHS will just load the box and the Devils are too talent across the board to give up much rushing yardage. I can't wait for Friday. I fully expect OHS and BG to meet up next Friday, but both teams need to only focus on the game at hand. Playoff time is never a good time to look ahead.
  7. Christian County does have enough athletes to make a coach worry. The main problem for the Colonels is their defense. What BG can't do, is get sloppy with the ball and turn it over multiple times. That is the only way I see Christian County being able to stay in it. Bowling Green 49 Christian County 21
  8. Purple88, yes it's central time! Carpe_diem we will be streaming audio of the game at: Homers Radio is on Mixlr. Mixlr is a simple way to share live audi... I'm not aware of any streaming video. Keep in mind that the Mixlr app is available for free in the App Store
  9. I'll be at the OHS-Greenwood game. Our Homers Game of the Week will be the OCath-Murray game, but I'll be doing live phone updates during the broadcast of that game. You can find our show at: Homers Radio is on Mixlr. Mixlr is a simple way to share live audi... We'll be live tonight at 9 pm to discuss last week's action and preview the games this week. We'll talk some about your Purples since they played Apollo.
  10. This is an interesting matchup. Greenwood coming in off a 38-6 whipping of Graves County, who took OHS to the wire (20-19 loss) just 3 weeks ago. The Gators also played Bowling Green tough (14-14 halftime score), and have only lost one other game to the #1 team in 4A South Warren. The Gators really love the quick hitter to the full back #29 Xezayier Snorton. They also like the quick pitchout to #6 Noah Pillow, who has some good speed. Every now and then the Gators will give an option look and QB #16 Jackson Adams is a good athlete as well. Those are the Gators big 3 on offense. Typically, most every play is going to go through one of those kids. Every once in a while Malcom Johnson will see some carries. Defensively, Greenwood is pretty stout. They play a 4 man front and like to bring an extra linebacker and bring pressure from the outside. Their two big playmakers on defense are #40 Stone Bettersworth and #26 Malcom Johnson. OHS meanwhile can hurt you in a variety of ways. The Devils do love to turn around and hand the ball off to Landon Board and TJ James, but can throw when needed. OHS has many play makers but maybe none more dynamic than Jahlil Barrett. Barrett can hurt you on offense by running or catching, the kick and punt returns, and has intercepted a few passes this year as well. Defensively, there may be nobody playing better than OHS LB Tavian Board. This kid is a 6'2' 230 monster who is playing the best football of his high school career. I do expect a good game. From what I can see on Hudl, Greenwood is very disciplined, athletic, and very well coached. Anything that OHS gets, I think the Devils will have to earn. If OHS doesn't come to this game in the right frame of mind, Greenwood is more than capable of pulling the upset. I think any chance of OHS overlooking the Gators was lost when Greenwood dropped that beat down on Graves last week. I have total confidence that coach Fallin and his staff will have the full attention of his team on Friday. I think it'll be close for a while, then OHS pulls away late. Owensboro 35 Greenwood 14
  11. This is the game that the Aces fans have been waiting for all season. Murray will try and control the LOS and run the ball down OCath's throat all night. The key for OCath will be to get out in front and make Murray do things they aren't comfortable with. The past 4-5 years, Murray has dictated the pace of the game and won the turnover battle. Don't quote me on this stat, but I believe the Tigers have scored defensive touchdowns the past 2 or 3 years in a row. OCath CAN NOT let that happen again this year. I do think having Shamari Morton will make a huge difference in this years game. Last season, without Morton, OCath lacked the big play threat against Murray. Having to drive down the field against an athletic defense is no easy task. Keep in mind, having Morton gives you the all around homerun threat via a pass, run, punt return, or kickoff return for a touchdown. Heck, I've even seen Morton intercept a pass and run it back for 6 this season. IMO, the game will be won or lost based on OCath's ability to slow down Murray's running game. In OCath's losses, the Aces have had trouble stopping the run, which has been their demise in the past against Murray (along with untimely turnovers). The catch 22 is, Murray QB Des Miles can throw when needed, so stacking the box is a calculated risk. Of offense OCath will probably have to use a running back to chip block Murray DE Tre Hornbuckle who has committed to Duke. Kid is a beast, and OCath must find him every possession. You don't want a kid like him coming scott free to the quarterback. I've seen this OCath team a few times this year. I saw this team absolutely crap the bed against Daviess County and lose. I also saw this OCath team push one of the best teams in the state (Owensboro) to the brink. They say the truth always lies somewhere in the middle. I say, if OCath doesn't turn the ball over more than once, slows Murray's run game down (nobody is stopping it), and gets a big play from Morton, then the Aces will be making the road trip to Mayfield next week. Owensboro Catholic 21 Murray 17
  12. Thanks for the factoid. I'll mention that on the show tomorrow night at 9pm. We'll give that stat a big fat "fail horn"
  13. Haha, good point Purple88. While everyone on both sides are "thinking" about the potential matchup, Kevin Wallace and Jay Fallin will make sure their respective squads are focused on their 2nd round match ups. Both coaches have much respect for coach Lovelace and Seabolt to let their teams overlook Friday. Greenwood made OHS coach Jay Fallins job of getting the Devils focused much easier this week. And coach Wallace knows it's foolish to overlook and Steve Lovelace coached team. Friday night around 10, hopefully, we can get the BG-OHS talk started.
  14. DFire, I was pulling for you guys. Warren Central and hop town are traditional powers so I was keeping up on Twitter. Hopefully the enrollment situation at WC can get resolved. I do think WC has a good coach.
  15. This result shocked me. Steve and I picked Henderson on The Homers, but our social media beast, Brandon Ward stood firm and went with Meade for the upset. I do think Henderson will improve and I do think freshman qb Skip Patterson will be a special player if he dedicates himself.
  16. Disappointing result. I'm not sure there is any other way to look at it. I hate to see DC go out like that because the Panthers lose a ton of productive seniors, most notably, John Stratton and Chase LeCroy. DC will return Adam Bouchard and Chandler Crite but it's going to be an uphill climb for the Panthers in 2016. I think DC missed their chance to climb the district and region ladder.
  17. Devils looked sharp, and did exactly what they were supposed to against an overmatched Grayson County team. OHS was pretty much able to execute anything they ran, but more importantly OHS got out without any injuries. The Devils has their backups in midway through the second quarter and the JV and freshman Devils finished the job from there. Next week will be a major jump in competition with a solid Greenwood team coming to Rash. OHS seems to be a focused bunch and no one wearing red and black is even thinking about BG at this point. All of OHS' attention will be on a Greenwood and the Gators made that easier to do with a drubbing of Graves County who took OHS to the wire two weeks ago. Also want to give props to OHS senior wide receiver Jahlil Barret who scored on a pass reception, run, and a punt return. Also Landon Board did his usual damage and TJ James had a nice cut back td run from about 40 yards out. Also sophomore Ray Ray Weaver rushed for well over 100 yards and freshman Trevon Green scored on a 30 yard scamper to close out the scoring. Freshman Brennan Williams really stood out at linebacker in the second half as did 6'7 255 lbs sophomore defensive end Jackson Burke. Good showing and keep it up next week!
  18. Good read and thanks for the work! Obviously, I think Owensboro is going to win, but there are several good teams out there beyond BG and Owensboro that will make this tournament fun.
  19. The good news is, the playoffs are here so we can finally see which team will rise to the top. Good work on the rankings this year!
  20. Henderson County 21 Meade County 7
  21. I get what Eagle_Pride is saying and where he is coming from. Graves County is absolutely a dangerous team that is capable of upsetting anyone of a given night. They play hard and are well coached. I do think Graves is significantly less talented than OHS and BG, even last year. But they make you beat them and if you make mistakes, they capitalize. I didn't attend the OHS-Graves game this year but all accounts I heard said OHS played probably their worst game of the year and Graves executed their game plan (ie milking the play clock) to the max. To say Graves can't beat OHS in a rematch would be wrong and arrogant. They absolutely could. However, I'm not sure Graves gets by Greenwood, and if they play OHS against at Rash....OHS will have the services of LB Tavian Board who missed the Graves game 2 weeks ago. He's a 6'2 230lb monster at MLB who's being looked at by several colleges. I respect Graves but I'll take OHS in the rematch.
  22. Naw man, I would really, really welcome that game. I have the upmost respect for Highlands but I'd love to see OHS have another shot at the Birds. Of course there are several teams out there that can make it too. Gonna be a great tourney!
  23. Owensboro vs Fern Creek Highlands vs Pulaski Owensboro vs Pulaski Owensboro state champs. I agree with the previous poster about OHS-BG. Whoever wins that game, IMO, wins state. Don't discount Fern Creek in the semis. They have a sneaky good team this year and could pull a "Graves County" and upset BG or OHS if they overlook them. Also, selfishly, I'd like to see OHS-Highlands in the state title game. Highlands has denied OHS 3 state championships, and last year still has a bitter taste for most OHS folks. It'd be nice to exorcise that demon and get OHS their first football title since 1986.
  24. This result was what I expected. BG is a great football team. Everyone is talking about week 3 but OHS needs to win the first 2 to get there. Can't take any weeks off in the playoffs or you go home. I do think the winner of BG-OHS will win state. They'll have to beat Fern Creek and Pulaski to do it, but I think they will.
