Hopkinsville 15 Warren Central 9

Featured Replies

Warren Central played very well tonight. Their defense kept Johnson in check the whole night and their defensive line dominated. I thought they should have won tonight. Hoptown escaped this one. If they play like this next week against FS they will be going home.

I feel bad for the Dragon faithful especially DFire as the Dragons had a chance in this game, but it was not meant to be. I fear there is more issues to be addressed than I know about when a starting QB is pulled in a close playoff game for noninjury issues. Regardless, this Dragon team played with guts this year and against a really Brutal scedule with Very few true home games. Best of luck going forward.

Hoptown, I fear this likely is closer to the real you. Not blow-out city vs PU High School. Play like this and you will be lucky to beat Franklin and get killed by South. But you did make plays at the end to win so there is that.

Sore loser

Who? No Dragon has said anything in this thread to be called that.

I may misremember but I believe Hopkinsville only had three first downs that weren't the result of penalties. And I think they only had 3-4 additional with the penalties added on. The defense did great work down the stretch this year, but the offense really never came back after the first drive of the Franklin game. Following that point, when Central was up 25-7 on Franklin, they scored 46 offensive points the rest of the year. 21 were against Warren East. The red zone really gave them problems at the end.

Ultimately tonight the difference was a pick six against a backup QB who I believe made his second or third throw of the night. His last throw was an INT to end the threat. What would have happened with Shanklin in? We'll never know. Maybe they wouldn't have scored at all. Too many variables to say but you do hate to lose your starting QB during the first round of the playoffs.

Central is graduating 17 seniors from a team that dressed 35 tonight. They had 8 freshmen in the program. It's tough times now. Way tougher than this.

Congrats and good luck to Hoptown. I think they've got a real tough one next week.

DFire, I was pulling for you guys. Warren Central and hop town are traditional powers so I was keeping up on Twitter. Hopefully the enrollment situation at WC can get resolved. I do think WC has a good coach.

I appreciate it! There are some very tough years ahead, no matter what happens with the lines. Nothing is going to turn things around in a year, but I do think Stephens is the man for this time. It would have been nice for some of these close games to have gone the other way (four losses of 8 points or less) as that would have made the record more bearable, but I was impressed with the fight of the team and I was very impressed with the defensive effort in the back half of the year. Holding Hoptown to 92 yards of offense may have been most impressive effort of the year. If they'd just not thrown that pick six.....

Did some parents get in a fight with the WC coaches last night during the game? I saw it reported on twitter

I saw the same tweet. Short answer - no. I really can't go into more detail but what that person thought they saw (also humorously talking about how the Warren Central players had packed in the season - guess the rest of the game proved otherwise), they were seeing something else.

It was a very intense discussion and got out of hand from what I heard
