  1. If it's the sign I'm thinking of, I believe it read "Southwestern Pulaski," which was never what they were called on the KHSAA rolls. Not sure if they're redone that or not.
  2. I am neither a Louisvillian nor a thread-jacker, but I gotta believe it'd be St. X-Trinity, given their unfinished business from September.
  3. Yes, they have dropped "Pulaski" and wish to be known only as "Southwestern." Not sure if it's a disassociation or simply a convenience. Someone from the southwestern part of Pulaski County will have to answer that one.
  4. They don't have to start at 7:30, and they don't even have to be on Friday. Several of this week's games start at other times, and games at Hopkinsville and Tilghman are being played on Saturday. But the two schools have to consult and agree to play them at another time/date; it can't be solely the decision of the host school. Here's the relevant info from the KHSAA's instructions to host teams: "In accordance with KHSAA Tournament Regulations, all playoff contests shall be held on Friday unless there exists a mutual agreement between the schools to hold the game on another day due to field conditions or availability, or in the mutual best interests of the competing teams. The game time shall be 7:30 p.m. local time unless the schools have a mutual agreement to play at another time."
  5. You're good, Mr. N, but I cheated a little. I already had some of this looked up before tonight's games.
  6. Points in the tiebreaker system can be counted from ANY game, except head-to-head games between the three teams involved. The tiebreaker is used to place all three teams, but if one is declared the winner and the other two are tied, then the head-to-head meeting comes into play. Here's the breakdown for this district as I understand it, with each team's games that are eligible for tiebreaker points: Clark 10 points (N. Laurel 3, S. Laurel 3, Bryan Sta. 2, Garrard 2, Whitley 2) Montgomery 10 points (N. Laurel 3, S. Laurel 3, Whitley 2, Rowan 2) Central 9 points (N. Laurel 3, S. Laurel 3, Whitley 2, West Jessamine 2, Dunbar 1) Because of the Clark-Montgomery tie, a fifth game enters the equation, giving Clark 2 additional points for a total of 12. Montgomery has only four eligible games. So Clark is placed second, Montgomery third and Central fourth.
  7. Since this game has no bearing on playoff seeding and since they're playing each other again in 7 days, why would either team treat this as much more than a glorified scrimmage? In my opinion, this is a major flaw in the intra-district playoff system. Of course you want to win the game, but don't you also want to prevent (1.) showing too much of your hand to a team you're facing in an elimination game the next week and (2.) losing a starter to injury that would force him to miss next week? I know no one wants to make a farce of the game, but if I were coaching I can't imagine I'd run much besides basic running plays, and I know I wouldn't leave a starter on the field past halftime. Thoughts?
  8. This is true, Coach Landry. In box scores, a botched PAT attempt is listed as "run failed" or "pass failed" unless foot makes contact with ball. Then it becomes "kick failed" or "kick blocked." However, the statistics ruling differs here in high school as opposed to the NFL and (I think) college. In the pros, it goes down as a 3-yard rush or pass if successful. In high school, it is not counted in the total offensive statistics, either as a rushing or passing attempt or in the offensive yardage. No stats are recorded on a conversion run or pass attempt.
  9. Nelson has abandoned the Nebraska N for some sort of cardinal head -- not sure if it's UofL's or Arizona's.
  10. Is the Detroit lion still used as a logo even though it isn't on the helmet any more? On a different note, given the Bengals' resurgence, I'm a little surprised some school called the Tigers hasn't given Cincinnati's helmet a try. I guess it proves they really are just that ugly. Lafayette is another one that uses a variation of the Buccaneers' helmet, sam flag and crossed swords but with something else where the Bucs' skull is. As of a few years ago, Green County used the Titans' fireball on its helmet, the same one Mercer County uses as a logo but not a helmet decal, only with green and gold colors and a G. Nothing about it really said Dragons, and they might have changed by now. Evangel Christian, the worst football team you've never seen, uses a logo that looks like the Patriots' newest logo on one end, but morphs into an eagle's head where the patriot's hat and face should be. But the stripes and shape are pretty much identical.
  11. It's not a requirement, and therefore nobody's business. From http://www.nd.edu: Although unwavering in its Catholicism, the University requires no particular belief of its community members and asks only that all be willing to appreciate and nurture the University's mission. We welcome students, faculty, and staff of all religious affiliations and provide resources to support them in their spiritual development. That said, good luck to a good kid.

  13. It was 47-6 before Taylor got its last three TDs in the final 15 minutes or so.
  14. Triple OT and the score was still this low? Ugh. What was it at the end of regulation?
  15. And they couldn't contain Fields. But I was most impressed by how Frankfort's defense contained Danville. Held them to less than 150 yards.
  16. Here's another vote for Harlan. He's absolutely fearless.
  17. Did this come as a shock to folks in London? I remember thinking they'd be pretty good after our own BGP preview called SL "a program on the rise" and "a sure fire bet to compete for the playoffs," but clearly it is neither. Obviously the injuries couldn't be foreseen, but were there other issues or was this just a complete misread?
  18. Newport was a top-10 AA team on most lists, and I read quotes from players about how they thought they had a shot to win it all after coming so close to Russell last year. But as mentioned above, the offense is not good. The QB, Hesch, isn't bad but seems to have no reliable receivers and no running game. The defense is good, and people there told me it has turned around completely from last season. Unfortunately, so has the offense.
  19. And it'll still be a 50-point game. Or more.
  20. The idea of Lincoln and Montgomery being 1-2 in the district standings at this point would've been hard to swallow before the season, but there they are. The race isn't over yet by a longshot, but Lincoln's run so far is much more than I thought they were capable of, even though I knew they would be better than last year.
  21. If things are that bad, get a better radio ... or drive the car into the living room. Lincoln wins a close one.
  22. This has been a great rivalry ever since I can remember, and I hate to see it go. I know about 15 or 20 years ago most of Redhound Nation considered Bell its biggest rival. Has that faded among the fans or is that still the case?
  23. I'll buy Central as the strongest team in its district and region. Bullitt East is down, and I'm not sold on Valley or North Bullitt. Central's no lock but has a pretty good shot. Sell the rest.
