  1. I'm shocked too. Looks like Southwestern is establishing a pattern of a good game followed by an off night.
  2. Good to see Lincoln didn't have the turnover troubles it had the first two games. They couldn't have pulled it out if they had made those mistakes again.
  3. A field goal with less than one second left decided this one after Boyle tied it with :40 to play. Must have been a great one to watch.
  4. Hey-Ref, as a separate question and just because I'm curious, what would a band have to do to warrant a penalty under this rule. Would it be something like trying to mess with the snap count?
  5. My bad. I had sniffed around on the Internet for this once before and found something that referenced this, but I probably attributed it wrong. It was likely a rule from another state as opposed to the NFHS. I'm not sure I could find it again without more than a few minutes of searching. Thanks for the correction.
  6. By NFHS rule, pep bands cannot play during live-ball situations. Beyond that, I think they can play any other time they please, at least in the regular season. There is no KHSAA rule that covers this, and the only time I hear it metioned is at meetings for postseason basketball tournaments, where the district or regional tourney manager will advise that bands can only play during timeouts. I think the state has similar rules for the Sweet 16 and football finals. But at regular-season games, I believe they can play any time the players aren't. As for college bands, I think they can play just about any time they want, though most don't. I went to a Tennessee State game about five years ago, and its band played almost continuously. Between plays, during plays, didn't matter.
  7. Boyle bounced back from a pretty bad loss to Henry Clay last year to beat Danville by 2 TDs. They may lose this week, and they may lose any of the 2 or 3 games after that, but this is still a pretty good team. Are they "down" when measure against teams that won five straight titles? Yes. Are they one of the best 2 or 3 teams in AAA on paper? No. But they aren't exactly falling off the face of the earth.
  8. No lights at Centre for a Fri. night game, and Centre will be using it Sat. That field couldn't handle the crowd anyway. The Alvis Johnson Field might be a good idea if Boyle has to move future games, but it's too small for this game, too.
  9. There's no KHSAA rule that specifically covers radio broadcasts at regular-season games, and sadly, I've looked for this before. There are rules covering videotaping that say a TV station, cable company, etc., must get permission of the event manager (usually a principal or AD) and that said manager has the right to charge what is essentially a rights fee to offset perceived lost ticket revenue. Another item elsewhere in the rules says the event manager has essentially the same controls at tournaments and playoffs for radio and TV, so I think KHSAA would interpret that the designated person would have those controls for regular-season games too.
  10. That argument makes sense, but the flip side is this: I think some of the better teams are going to have more trouble finding games for weeks 10 and 11 than they would in August and September. Who's going to want to play Bowling Green or Trinity or Danville or Belfry the week before the playoffs?
  11. Wasn't moved. The schedules have had it on Saturday all along.
  12. It wasn't boring, but I didn't think it was a very good game, either. The penalties, the sloppy play made for a game that was not well played but was at least interesting (maybe because people were wondering if either team would ever score).
  13. Eastern did the same thing for their November games for some time, but they haven't for a few years.
  14. There might be rain, but there won't be mud. It won't slow 'em down much on fake grass.
  15. Just saw a few highlights on Lex. and Lou. TV stations. Couldn't tell much from those, except that the Ky. turnovers were ugly. And there was a clear view of the Guru and his camera in the background on one of the plays. I read the AP story, which said QB Brian Anderson fumbled and threw an interception in the last three minutes and change. Warford had the only Ky. TD on an 11-play, 80-yard drive in the 2nd quarter. K.J. Black came in at QB after that, but Tenn. shut down his runs. Tenn. didn't score until the 2nd half.
  16. The colors will be red, white and blue, which also merges the two schools' colors. Mercer was red, white and blue (mostly red), and Harrodsburg was blue and white.
  17. In further defense of WYMT, Estill County is in eastern Kentucky but is much closer to Lexington than Hazard, and is considered in Lexington's viewing area and not Hazard's. In fact, I'm pretty sure WYMT isn't on cable in Irvine. And virtually every TV station is going to stay inside their viewing area when covering things like this. If folks in Estill County can't see their broadcasts, they're not going to get covered. It's that simple.
  18. Coaches and/or tourney officials decide beforehand whether they want an all-tourney team (it does seem like more and more districts are going away from that), then can decide on any number they choose. I agree that all-tourney teams are mostly useless, especially in small tournaments. Coaches tend to think a lot less of them than fans, and I can see why.
