I pick Belfry over Ashland, but it will not be a blow-out. They are playing in Putnam Stadium, which is a tough place to play. Belfry will have to hold on to the ball but will come out with the win. Belfry 21 Ashland 7

I think that there will be adjustments made after the SC game but the defense will have to step up. I expect the LC backs, Coty & Morgan Roberts, with the help of the O-line, will have a big game. Many of our players are playing both ways and fatigue will be a problem, especially with the tough teams.

What are some thoughts out there about the game? Is this Coal Grove's first game of the season?

Coty had a real game on Friday. #3 is Mark Fitzpatrick, a sophomore, is fast and does run track, but appears to have a lot of football potential. Mark, is the starting QB at this time and can scramble very well. SC just appeared to be more fundamentally sound and I think their experienced players made the difference. I think that SC, if their key players stay healthy, will go far this year.

The score does not really reflect just how close this game was. It was tic for tat all night long. Coty Roberts had a really good game, both offensively and defensively. I believe that he had well over 100 yards. The Dials kid from SC ran very well. He pretty much carried the team offensively. The O-line for SC was a lot bigger than LC.

Who scored for the Dawgs?

Are you talking about the same kid or two players? Sophomore Mark Fitzpatrick is as quick in the pocket (if not quicker) and will at least give the ball off to his team mates. I think over all, the players that are out on the field are more talented. I do think that the dawgs will have to deal with some inexperience out there, not from the individual aspects, but as a team. I think that the defense will keep us in the game until the offense gets warmed up, 1st quarter will be rough until the offense gets together and working out the kinks, then we may surprise some people. In the past LC seems to be more prepared when starting the season, perhaps camp had helped us there, where we did not have that this year, but I think that we will continue to get better and start peaking when the district games start.

Jason Spradlin did have a lot of talent but the baggage that he brought with him impacted the team in a very negative way. It was not a team effort when he was out there. Believe me when I tell you that the environment was not a good one. Now the team seems to be playing together and I see a lot of good players that play well together and that will outshine one or two individuals that don't. There are no players that are "special. All the boys are very supportive of each other, which we have not had for at least a couple of years. I think that it will be a tough one, but I have to go with the Dawgs. LC 18 SC 12

I agree. Kyle Carter should have a special Senior year. The other seniors on the team will come to shine as well. Justin Staniford is a tough kid along with Shannon Emory, Robert Butcher, and Steven Carter. Morgan Roberts will be one to watch as well. I am going to try to go to the upcoming scrimmage this weekend. We should start seeing some more of the teamwork that we saw this past weekend.

Every year at the first home ballgame, I love it when the band is coming into the complex with their drums pounding, the smell of cut grass, the sounds of cleats on the "walk", and the sounds of AC/DC playing overhead. Well basically if you get gossebumpas and this brings a smile on your face, then you know that you are a DAWG fan. This community loves their Dawgs. You can see this when former players (all players) are standing on the fence and smiling ear to ear with the memory of what their expereince was like and the promise of what is to come. Remember football is not just a sport, it is so much more. Especially in a small community. Awesome post! :thumb:

Great post! LC has a lot to be proud of and I see a lot of talent on the field this year. The LC pride runs deep and LC fans are second to none (and I don't mean those fair weather fans either). I know those boys are just in awe when they take the field in a varsity game for their first time. It is an experience that many of those mentioned in the initial post have not been able to recreate no matter where they are at, and I am sure that they rememer those days fondly. The game where we beat Brethitt is one of the best games, if not the best game I have been to. It was a classic. It was and remains classic Lawrence County Football! :ylsuper: :ylsuper: :ylsuper:

They did start to look better toward the later part of the scrimmage. When Coty Roberts scored his 2nd touchdown (I think that this was against PCC??), Boone took it in for the 2 point conversion and he appeared to settled down and just looked more comfortable. Morgan was moving the ball. Acie Waller, Robert Butcher, and Jeff Cyrus really stepped up and caught some passes which looked good. I can't remember if those were all from Boone, but I think so. Mark Fitzpatrick appeared to get better with the option as well. They didn't get out of there until way after 2 (they rested the boys some in between scrimmages) so I am not sure what time you left, but overall they started looking more "smoother". I think they made some adjustments on the line as well. They did appear to struggle at first and even up to the middle part of the scrimmage, but I think that all the boys started to get better (team wise) as the scrimmage progessed.

As far as LC, I think that the LC fans are feeling much better about this season's prospects. I think that the defense looked good and once the offense got "jellin" together, it started looking good. :sssh: Remember you have two quarterbacks that have not worked with the older kids on the team much at all. They have to learn about their teammates. I think that I saw a team that was supportive of each other like we have not seen for a couple of years. I do know that it was very hot and it did not appear that there were any significant injuries nor any heat related problems on any of the teams there. I don't think that any one team dominated today and it was probably a good learning experience for all of the teams there. The sportsmanship was excellent! :thumb:

LC is keeping quiet because, frankly, talk is cheap. They want to come to the field with their expectations and not those of others, and they expect to win. They have had a rough couple of years' schedules to deal with when starting their seasons off and it proved to be hard on the team. With many past players gone, I think that these kids are coming together as a team unlike we have seen in the past couple of years. I truly believe that this team will make the fans proud, on & off the field. :thumb:
