Who will win these games (to be broadcast live on WYMT)?

 

Please make one choice per game (2 total).

Dont really know much about the game between South Laurel and Covington Holmes. I know that Laurel returns the QB Bowling who passed all over JC last year in this bowl as a freshman. Does S. Laurel return alot of their offensive starters from last year as that always seems to be their strong point.

 

As for the JC and N. Laurel game i look for JC to pull out the win. I look for JC to use a clock management style of football using the balance that they will have in the backfield this year along with a very solid defense from last year that returns 8 of 11 starters.

 

Both should be good hard hitting games.

South has a new head coach and offensive coordinator, however, the O coordinator has been in the system for several years. They did lost a lot of linemen and some quality skill positions as well (Marcum WR, Proffitt WR, Brown RB, Riley WR, Philpot WR, etc). However, they still return several top notch WR's and an excellent RB prospect in Cody Quinn.

 

Holmes returns the bulk of their starters with very few seniors on last year's team which lost to North Laurel in the CVB in 2005.

 

North Laurel should be pretty solid this year. They return the playmakers they needed to return (Asher, Brandenburg, Maggard, Adams, etc) but lost Cessna & Sizemore (Cessna was injured last season and Sizemore was the leading rusher on this run dominated team). They lost some solid linemen and their total yardage leader (Stuber), but bring back more than they lost. Asher became the offensive weapon last year, and should be even moreso this season. Defensively, I expect them to be very tough, especially with Brandenburg and Maggard at the LB spots. The game with JCHS should be a hard hitting game as both teams LOVE to hit!

From all the information I have gathered thusfar, these should be 2 very good games. I think it will be difficult for the Laurel Co teams to repeat last year's first and win both games. I certainly hope I am wrong and both win.

South will not have the dropoff that many think. Bowling's arm looks stronger than ever and IF his line can give him time and keep Benton and the other Bulldog defenders out of the backfield, the Cardinals should win this one.

North's defense should be solid, but the offense still looks very shaky. The varsity offense has yet to score a TD in their first 2 scrimmages against their opponents #1 defense. IF the Jags players catch on to their 3rd new offensive scheme in as many years, they could pull this one off. But I think they the Eagles will wear down the Jags smaller line and pull this one out. The key for NL is who can step up on offense and take on the #2 option role to take the heat off of Asher.

The same QB that has been running his whole life and will be attending UK next year on a full ride for Football..........Time will tell in this one.

covington holmes has a much inproved offensive line with seniors michael sharp and tommy britton that will give duran jefferson plenty of time to do his thing. didnt michael sharp win the most valueable offensive lineman award last year at this as a junior? he sure did

South lost more than Holmes did from last season. And South's defense was not their strongest suit in 2005. North Laurel's offense was below average last year and they scored more than that on South. If South holds Holmes to 6 points, they should win this game going away. But I think that you are not giving Holmes very much credit but have given them some nice bulletin board material. They have some solid athletes on that squad and while I think South will win this one by 2 scores or more, Holmes may give them more of a game and could pull the upset.

Even though the cards lost a lot of solid player's from last year's 9-3 squad, south return's still a good core of athlete's. Every year it has been the same story over and over again. "How will you replace the talent you lost from graduation?" I think we have already answered that question time and time again. Even though south did loose a lot, they do return a lot. Player's such as Jeff Ledford, Rick Bowling, Logan Baker, and Terry Bingham, will lead the team in this year's quest for TEAM success.

Seems like a double standard to be that you want to base this years Holmes team on what they did last year when you talk about North Laurel not being below average by beating Madison Central. Personally i thought both teams played pretty bad in that matchup last year but that has no reflection on this years teams. I think South will win but dont think that just cause Cov. Holmes played bad last year that they will this year as well.
