Even though the cards lost a lot of solid player's from last year's 9-3 squad, south return's still a good core of athlete's. Every year it has been the same story over and over again. "How will you replace the talent you lost from graduation?" I think we have already answered that question time and time again. Even though south did loose a lot, they do return a lot. Player's such as Jeff Ledford, Rick Bowling, Logan Baker, and Terry Bingham, will lead the team in this year's quest for TEAM success.

-South defense last year was stronger then it had been in previous years before. The defense played tough all year with the exception of three games. In regard's to North's "below average” offense. North Laurel's offense If you remember, was the same offense that happen to scored 28 point's in the defeat of Richmond team, that had not suffered a district loss since the 2001 season.

I'm not saying that Holmes does not have any athlete's on their team, that's not the case because they do. The reason I do not give Holmes much credit is because of the way they played last year in the C.V.B. They were playing as individual's not as a team. Until they show up as a team, I do not see them doing much better.

1. North scored 26 points in that upset win over Madison Central and only because it was a double OT game. Regulation ended at 13-13 (same as the score at the end of the first half of the NL vs SL game last year).

2. I agree that Holmes did not play that well last year in the CVB, but neither did North Laurel. I know that because North beat them you are convinced that South will romp and stomp in this one. However, comparing common opponents doesn't always work. If so, South should have beaten Madison Central or North should have been stomped by them. Different styles of play. Also remember that if it weren't for Chris Cessna living in the Holmes backfield last year, that Jefferson would have had even more time to run around. That is when he is the most dangerous, ... on the move. IMHO, he isn't that hard to bring down, ... once you catch him. But catching him is the problem.

3. The teams that have given South trouble have generally been those that have a lot of good athletes (eg. Henry Clay, Madison Central, etc.). Holmes is not as good as either of those teams, but they do have a lot of solid athletes capable of breaking the big one. Holmes also had a lot of dropped passes in that game that could have made the difference against NL. If they do that this year, they could be in big trouble.

4. I love Ledford, Baker, and Bingham. And while Bowling is an excellent HS QB who's arm looks even stronger this year, ... he will not be playing any defense.

Don't get me wrong, I think South wins this one by double digits and I really hope they win HUGE. But they have a tendency to give up the big play and that is what Holmes is best at. If SL holds Holmes to 6 or less points, this game is a walkover for the Cardinals. The offense for the Cards has to watch out for Thomas Benton (#44). He was the best defensive player Holmes had last year and was everywhere. He is one tough customer. If they can keep him out of the backfield and give Bowling time, I think South could score a lot of points. But IMHO, he could be the difference maker for the Bulldogs.

who will be the mvp??? i know some of you guys will have some interesting input on this.

1. As far as the Bulldogs playing bad last year, you have to realize that the game was only Jefferson's second week running the offense which led to unforced fumbles because of the pitch/catch relationship in the option offense, so there was still kinks to be worked out. This year he has been around all summer and has had plenty of reps. Also as Mountain Thunder stated, there were many dropped passes last year by the Bulldog receivers that would have made a HUGE difference in the outcome of the game.

2. Rodney Covington will be a man amongst boys out there. South is facing a very good and tough Rb this year that nobody is giving credit and forgetting about. With Holmes big offensive line, i look for him to run wild in this one.

3. Holmes returns 4 of 5 starters from last year's offensive line. All are bigger and even stronger than last year. I'm tellin you right now whoever has to go up against Mike Sharp (last year's o line mvp), Tommy Britton, or big Terrence Clark (6'5 guard) is going to be on the ground much of the game. This is probably one of the better o-lines Holmes has had in a LONG time.

4. Defensively, Holmes will probably be the most solid team down there. They return one of the best LB's in NKY in Justin Young and also stand out d-end Thomas Benton, who we all know killed North last year. But dont forget that besides those two they return 6 more starters.

IF South wins this one, it won't be a blow out and they won't score more than 28 points on this Bulldog defense. Too much experience and talent on that side of the ball. I look for a close game with the team having the ball last winning.

Johnson Cenral wins by to td's

South wins by 3 td's

Benton was all over the field last year against North Laurel. His team may have lost the game, but he earned my respect. It was a travesty that he did not get the defensive mvp for Holmes that game.

Couldnt agree with you anymore. I think he ended up with like 16 tackles that game. The scary thing is he's even bigger and stronger this year :scared:

This game won't be a blow out at all...Holmes is definetly capable of winning this game and doing it in convincing fashion. I think it's going to come down to field position and which team can get that extra turnover with the least mental mistakes.

Good points, These DAWGS will not go down without a fight. I think this will be a dog fight to the end. No pun entended.

Anyone from Holmes going down to see the game my mom and sister are driving down and was looking for some people to dress there cars up and show some support.

I am, but I have a special ride down. I will see what I can find out though.

Sorry fellas but I won't be able to make it...I'll be out in Colorado on a business trip. But if one of you could P.M me after the game and give me a recap, that'd be great.

This is my first post on bluegrasspreps. So all you johnson central fans you can add one more to the nest.

JC - 45

NL - 0

SL - 35

Holmes - 7

28 - 25 NL over JC

35 - 21 Holmes over SL

Should be a couple of good games. NL had some offensive issues in the scrimages but should get Asher and company rolling tommorow night. I just don't think JC will live up to the hype, don't get wrong they will still be a very good team when it is all said and done.

I think a lot of people aren't give Holmes any credit after the first few games last season they really got rollin. This season they have most of the offense back and everyone knows about the athletes esspecially Jefferson. SL will still have a potent offense with Bowling looking better than last season, but he also lost a lot of targets. SL will have some trouble up front and defensively. Jefferson should have a big night. Good luck to all four teams. (This is also my first post)
