Colonel Husker

Colonel defense decides not to come back from fall break. The last two games Henderson County holds Owensboro Catholic under 30( which I will guarantee nobody else on Catholic's schedule will do)and holds MAYFIELD to 14 in double overtime. THIS week gives up 59 to the Mustangs. I know it's high school football and anything can happen. McCracken played hard, but Trinity or Boyle they are not. No excuse for losing this game, let alone giving up 60.

PT, Catholic, and Mayfield back to back to back......who made this schedule?!? I look for the Cardinals to win this one by three touchdowns in a game that will be a little closer than the score. Henderson County actually held the Aces to 32 yards on 20 carries, but that's not stopping Atwell. The kid is amazing. Davis will not play Friday. I think the earliest they plan on him being back is the eleventh of October against McCracken. Davis' replacement showed some flashes,but as one would expect, HC's offense struggled. The Colonels were inside Catholic's ten yard line three times and did not score, two turnovers and got held on downs on the other possession. The Colonels probably didn't have fifty yards total offense in the first half, but did get the running game going a little in the second. It was a very physical game,and both teams were "laying the wood" throughout. Henderson County's kids play hard and they are physical, but they do not have the size that you usually see from Colonel teams, I believe that will be their downfall against the Cards.

Headed to Henderson for Aces/Colonels matchup. Class of '80 Colonel here,but my wife went Catholic,as well as my oldest son and my daughter attends Jr high there now. Just hoping the Colonels can make a game of it. Catholic had 500 yards plus last week against OHS.

Colonels making a team with no speed to speak of,look fast. 14-3 CH. Bruins playing very hard......Colonels,not so much.

The offensive growing pains at CH are not hard to understand. The triple option is a very complex and high risk offense,and it's going to take time before the execution is where it needs to be. That being said, your earlier posts about the Bruins lack of speed,if that be the case make it an extremely difficult task to run it effectively. I believe you are spot on about how the game will go. Henderson County's defense is better than their stats as they have played against two exceptional QB's. I see the Colonels wearing down the CH defense and pulling away to win the game,42-14.

37-0 Owensboro Catholic over Daviess County, 10:25 left in the 2nd Quarter.

As much as I would like to pick the Colonels (Class of '80), beating South will be a tall order. Sustaining drives to keep the Spartan's offense off the field will be the key to winning the game. I just don't think the Colonels can do it against an outstanding unit like South Warren. They had trouble running the ball against Meade, and South Warren is a different animal. Coach Boston is a good one and will have the Colonels ready, but I think SW will wear the defense down and pull away in a game that will probably be closer than the final score. I hope I am wrong. HC does have talent, but so did Ballard. I will say this; Any special teams coordinator that knowingly kicks the ball to the Combest kid from Henderson County .....should be fired right there in the stadium. LOL!! There is speed,and then there is whatever that kid has!

Henderson County will be better this season,now whether it reflects on the schedule is the issue. Last year's team only had four or five returning starters,and one of those was the kicker. Like you guys referenced earlier, finding more than one more regular season win will be a tall order. All the "power teams" the Colonels lost to last year,with the possible exception of Mayfield (who will still be REALLY good), are going to be better this season. I live just a few blocks from Steele,and have seen Atwell throwing to his receivers......YIKES!!

Atwell was Catholic's starting Inside Linebacker the first three or four games of the season. He also did not play in the 2nd half after the Henderson County game on 9/15 until the last regular season game against North Hardin. The semi-final game against Somerset is the only playoff game that he has played in the second half. Now, I am sure that the same is true for a lot of these great QB's. Especially true for the ones on great teams that can't help who is in their districts.

I know it is against (weak,no disrespect to them intended) district teams,but Henderson County has thrown 13 touchdown passes their last three games. I too, think OHS wins by a similar margin. The Devils have too much overall speed,and speed kills

Should be a good one between two teams that are better than their records,as both have played BRUTAL schedules. I love my Colonels (Class of '80), but I think OHS has a little better team speed and I don't believe that they are as "raw" as Henderson County. I will pick OHS in a good one between two young,but talented teams that will NOT fun to play against next season.

If North Hardin plays an undisciplined game,Catholic will "mercy rule" them. Now,that shouldn't happen because North Hardin does have talent, but if you do not have position discipline Catholic will bury you.Defending their quick passing game is like trying to defend the option. They put tons of pressure on your outside,and then kill you in the middle of the field. Catholic's defense is better than you think. Greenwood, Owensboro, and Henderson County are the only teams that had over 200 yards total offense, and Greenwood got most of their's against the backups with a running clock. That being said, I do expect the Trojans to be able to move the ball some. Should be an entertaining game. If North Hardin plays a clean game,both mentally and physically, I'll take Catholic 41-24 in a fun game to watch. If the Trojans play an undisciplined game, it will be a running clock before the end of the 3rd quarter.

Brady Atwell has passed for 2849 yards and has not played in the 2nd half of a game since the Aces played Henderson County on September 15th.
