5A South Warren (1-0) at 6A Henderson County (1-0)

Streaming:  - Sporting Times (stfanclub.com)

South Warren loads up the buses and will travel up the old Green River and Audubon Parkways to bright, beautiful Henderson, KY.  Henderson’s Central Park, located in downtown Henderson (and once known as Transylvania Park) was set aside in 1797 for public use and is believed to be the oldest municipal park west of the Allegheny Mountains!  How bout that!

This will be the second meeting between these 2 schools.  South Warren defeated Henderson County at home 38-14 behind a monster night from QB Bryce Button who had nearly 400 yards passing and 5 TD passes vs the Colonels.

Henderson County Information

In the opening week of the season, Henderson County went on the road and defeated a very solid 6A foe in Meade County 43-29.  GREAT win for the Colonels!

Sounded like Henderson County led most of the game, but Meade tied it with about 7 minutes left in the game; then outscored Meade by 2 TDs to win going away! Nice work Colonels!

South Warren Information

The Spartans opened the year traveling to Campbellsville for a second year in a row and playing last year 6A Semi-Finalist Ballard in the opening game of the Forcht Bank Bowl.  Ballard has some holdovers from a dynamite team last season but lost their coach and several stars. So was unknown how this game would go.  Similarly, South lost some fine football players to graduation and other things so wasn't sure exactly what to expect Friday in Campbellsville.  I want to start by saying I LOVED Cambellsville's field.  It is landlocked and tight with the baseball complex, but really quaint and fun.

One thing South didn't lose was their coaching staff and it really showed in this game.  Every time South got in a 3rd and long or 4th down.  South had an answer every time with a well designed play with pretty good execution.  And Bryce Button is a difference maker.  The 3 year starter and D1 commit is a tough customer back there and really wasn't threatened much all night.  The only time Ballard really threatened to score was at the end of the first half with about 1.5 seconds on the clock, from the South 25-ish and Ballard throws a screen and their good WR gets tackled about an 8 yard gain.  Come on man...  South wins easily 24-0.  South doesn't have their offensive bugs worked out just yet, but they don't need to yet.  Solid effort.

Game Information

South travels northwest this week instead of northeast to Henderson County.  "Could" Henderson County make it a game?  Sure, but I think South dominates defensively and Bryce Button plays a near mistake free game and South rolls 28-10.

Who you got?

As much as I would like to pick the Colonels (Class of '80), beating South will be a tall order.

Sustaining drives to keep the Spartan's offense off the field will be the key to winning the game. I just don't think the Colonels can do it against an outstanding unit like South Warren. They had trouble running the ball against Meade, and South Warren is a different animal.

Coach Boston is a good one and will have the Colonels ready, but I think SW will wear the defense down and pull away in a game that will probably be closer than the final score. I hope I am wrong. HC does have talent, but so did Ballard.

I will say this; Any special teams coordinator that knowingly kicks the ball to the Combest kid from Henderson County .....should be fired right there in the stadium. LOL!! There is speed, and then there is whatever that kid has!

Good post CH!  I agree with it.  I think Henderson County will be a tougher game for South than Ballard was.  That may surprise some on here, but after the game if you watched both, I think I'll be right on this one.

I expect this to be a sneaky good game but I’m going with SW.

SW is well coached with a strong football culture. HC is a very large school with a varsity football program that has struggled for many years (relative to what they once were and relative to the stronger programs in 5A and 6A). SW with the win.

Potential upset brewing in Colonel country.

I was just coming here to post it, good job DMC and yes!

Button rolls right and finds his man for 6. He does the same for the 2 pt conversion.

It's 26-23 SW in the 3Q.

SW scored 26-23 SW

A Hendo FG makes it a one score game again.

33-26 SW

Still 3Q.

The Spartans answer with their own 3 pointer.

36-26 SW
