Personally I think this game will be very close. JH has lost some key pieces on defense and there are definitely some question marks on that side of the ball early in the year. However, JH SHOULD win this game. JH is returning its best set of the best athletes since 2020 and really established an identity last year. Pittman will be a load to bring down for every team. Last year against Hancock, JH had 2 punts blocked and lots of blown assignments that led to them getting behind early. To me, the key for JH is not imploding at the start of the game. Hancock is extremely well coached. Should be a good one to start the year!

I agree with this a lot. With JH’s physicality and how physical Taylor is, should be a really good matchup later in the season. #1 seed in that district is going to be very coveted to stay away from PT imo.

Looking forward to seeing JH play Hancock week 1. Not sure what Hancock has returning but the last 2 years both games have been very competitive. I know JH has not forgotten losing 2 years in a row. Should be a good one to start the year!

I was watching the stream and have talked to multiple people that were at the game and they have told me Cavalli has had a knee injury all week. My understanding is that he is going to get treatment now that the season is over. Incredible season and toughness. 3,000 yards in one season is unreal. Very proud of these seniors. 4 years ago, JH was at a much lower place. Seniors took the lumps and have restored some confidence and faith into the Dawg faithful. They aren’t fully back but they are getting close. Tighlman was the better team tonight. Start of the game was a nightmare (as it has been early and often for the Dawgs this year). They settled in and got better as the game went on. Critical mental errors (drops and holds) kept this one from ever getting close. JH has LOTS of talent coming back but will greatly miss these seniors. Good luck to PT rest of way!

Cavalili looks hurt from the feed I’m watching. Heard some rumblings of a knee injury this week. Tighlman front 7 is very impressive!

Not saying JH will beat PT but JH has gotten some good wins recently (Desales and Warren East). JH was the better team last Friday against WE but struggled with many defensive breakdowns when Parsley broke the pocket. JH passing defense has been exposed at times but just 2 weeks ago against Desales it had the best defensive effort all year. It is not small task when going to PT and facing so many weapons that they have. However, one would argue if you have ANY chance against PT (basically everyone in 4a other than Boyle) you MUST control the clock with a ball control offense. JH has played weaker competition but even against the good teams (KCD, Bardstown, Desales and Warren East) they were effective scoring points and running the ball. This JH offense has been a really good offense since week 2. Chew clock and keep it within striking distance has to be the goal. Tighlman has not faced an offense like JHs all year long so interested to see how they matchup. Junior RB Cavalli Pittman also may eclipse 3,000 yards rushing THIS SEASON during this game. JH is CLEARLY outmatched talent wise but hopefully Coach Preston will have the dawgs ready to compete. They have put together a good season and have a bunch of talent coming back next year. Ball control, limiting mental mistakes in secondary and creating a couple of turnovers will be key to keeping it close. Hoping both teams stay injury free! Any links to this one?

Exactly how I'm feeling with the Dawgs as well. They are still fighting a couple of key injuries but I think key to game will be the trenches on Friday night. With JH struggling to find anything offensively last week, I feel everything will likely depend on if they are able to run Pittman or not Friday night. He had 160 yards Friday that felt like 200+. Dawgs have already laid an egg so this is a pretty big game for them early this year. Nothing would surprise me Friday night.

John Hardin (0-1) Coming off a tough and disappointing Game 1 vs Hancock County will travel to Green County (1-0) to take on the Dragons. JH struggled often and early against Hancock getting in a 14-0 hole early AT HOME and were down 21-0 at halftime. Honestly, I was shocked at this. There has been some buzz around this team. I was at the game and it seemed like everything that could have gone wrong, did last Friday. Hancock blocked 2 punts and JH had 2 turnovers which really changed the game. 2nd half JH won 10-0 and Hancock seemed to struggle to maintain anything offensively but JHs offense struggles led to an easy win for the Hornets. JHs defense has the potential to be very good. JH HAS to figure out the offense. Too much talent in backfield going to waste (Junior Cavali Pittman is REALLY good.) There were down a couple of lineman down due to injury and JH are playing freshman already. Need to develop them fast. They also have shown no real downfield passing threat. As I said, there was some real optimism coming into the season for JH. The brand new student section was packed and JH laid an egg at the Dawg Pound. Very interested to see how they respond and if this team had a bad first game or really aren’t much improved (if at all this season). I would lean toward the first option. There is still plenty of talent on this team. Green County (1-0) coasted to a 36-0 win over a bad Casey County team on Friday night. Don’t know much about Green other than they beat JH last year 21-9. Last year JH’s mental mistakes costed them (blown assignments, dropped passes etc) I know Green has graduated a couple of kids and going into the season I thought JH would matchup well. I still think this one should be a good game but I’ll give the edge to Green at home with a still developing squad. Hopefully JH proves me wrong!

Lots of excitement regarding this JH team and lots of buzz going around the community. Haven't had that in a couple of years. Excited to see the Dawgs play this season. Lots of returning talent that has played A LOT of varsity reps. Next 2 years should be very good to the Dawgs. Need to take care of business against Hancock Friday night. I went to the scrimmage last Friday at JH (Jamboree vs Bullitt Central, Grayson and Fort Knox) and JH was clearly the best team there. However, this is the first game of the year so mistakes will likely be plentiful. First game with the new student section and turf field completed, so I just hope the energy is back at the Dawg Pound Friday night! JH - 34 Hancock - 17

Really interested to see Bardstown this year... #7 is certainly a skilled athlete and I think the move to RB/WR will help Bardstown with replacing TyTy. Bardstown always has the athletes and guys to make it happen and bringing back that many starters is insanely impressive.... Should be a fun year for the Tigers

Patience was required when rooting for the Bulldogs last season. They ended the year 4-7, losing to Logan County 43-17 in the 1st round of the playoffs. Looking ahead to 2024 the Bulldogs will only be losing 7 seniors to graduation throughout the whole roster but losing Will and Jacob Adams, Quention Johnson will be a major hole the Dawgs look to fill in. The Dawgs were competitive last season in spurts with youth rearing its head in the worst times for the Bulldogs. Still, they were just a minute away from beating Nelson County last season to secure a home playoff game. Good news for JH is they again, return most of their young roster with sights set on getting the Bulldogs back to their standard. JH will almost certainly rely on Junior Cavali Pittman (800 yards and 8 TDs last season) and Junior QB Austin Richardson (1,000 yards 11 TDs and 3 INTs last season) to head the Wing-T offense from Doug Preston. They also return top running backs Emari Simon and Laysen Anderson. Returning almost every position on defense, including incoming Sophomore Elijah Luna, who is going to wreck offensive lines all year long and linebacker Cam Moore who had 118 tackles last year I expect the Bulldogs to continue to improve on that side of the ball. I have also heard some really good things about Sophomore QB Austin Richardson and skill guys working far beyond team workouts and getting chemistry on and off the field. Good sign for a young team that is looking to make a major jump. Also have heard some word on a couple of transfers from Louisville schools but not sure if these guys have started lifting yet. Overall, this might be the best group of athletes JH has had since 2020. Schedule (as far as I know) will remain the same as last year for JH. I have posted opponents in order below. I have also heard rumors that JH will be hosting a jamboree scrimmage event during the summer on JHs new turf but haven't heard teams or dates as of yet. I think this is a schedule that favors JH to have their first winning season in a couple of years and continue to build confidence. I think JH could sneak into some Top 10 polls by the end of the year in 4A. Week 2 at Green County should be a good measuring stick to where JH will be this season. He was 41. This has shaken up the program and really the entire school today as it was very unexpected. He was also a Special Education teacher at JHHS. Sad day. Saying my prayers for everyone affected by this.

Do they implement Bullitt County schemes on offense or defense? I think that is where the real advantage comes in. You will gain an advantage with just playing with the same group of guys from a young age but if you can have 8-9 year olds start learning the spread or 4-3 defense I think it really helps as they go to MS and HS. This is really interesting, I appreciate you sharing this.

I am curious to what other school systems have a similar model and how long has it been successful? In a county like Hardin Co with multiple schools in the county. I think its definitely an interesting idea but I just don't see enough support locally for it to happen.

Possible in theory? Sure. That would take multiple cities to come together and agree which school gets which league and who's going to coach the principles of each system for the 3 schools? Just a lot of coordination that I haven't seen from anyone in this county. Usually Etown league is Etown, Central and some John, Radcliff league is almost exclusively NH, little JH and Vine Grove is usually NH and JH split. The only school that is struggling with numbers (school wide/athletically) right now is John Hardin and that is because the board continues to neglect the youngest school in the district. From what I understand freshman enrollment is best it has been at JH in 6 years also. Feeder programs in Hardin Co are the Middle Schools. John Hardin actually hosts youth league games on their field as well.
