Coach Spencer has gotten the pieces put together well in Latonia. I've got a lot of respect for Coach Herbst and the Dayton program but I think Holy Cross is going to continue to roll this week. You can't ever overlook an opponent, especially in the playoffs, but I'm really excited about the potential for a round two game between Wiggy's Newport squad and Holy Cross.

This is the time to get really excited about playing football. I'm really looking forward to these next few weeks.

Will is a great player from a great Newport Catholic family.

7 on 7 is a drill much moreso than a competition or game. It's a lot more about identifying strengths and weaknesses by getting to compete against an opponent that's not from your own squad. Gives us get a fresh look at how the fellas get along when the players on the field aren't necessarily able to anticipate what the other players can do as much as they can in intrasquad drills. We had some great looks on Friday and we had some things we need to get ironed out. As a receiving corps we need to keep working on getting into space and making sure to catch the ball before trying to advance down the field. Tipped balls hurt us on Friday. Definitely looking forward to Dylan being healed up and back on the field for us.

Coach B has always been one of the best in the biz. I'm sure if he's interested to keep in the game Ben and Noel would be more than thrilled to have him come pitch in at Holmes. The o-line at Beechwood still be in great hands with Bob's protege Matt Mercer taking the reins.

The QB draw is an under-appreciated play.

I'm going with the good guys in blue for this one. We've been working hard on preparedness. If our fellas go hard and bring 100% effort on every single play for 48 minutes, there's nobody beating us.

Looking forward to another exciting night of football tomorrow. Last week we took a little bit to get things solidified up front at the line of scrimmage. I was really proud of the way our guys were able to collect themselves at the half, take their coaching, and make those adjustments when they came out in the 3rd quarter and really execute well. Obviously we had a little trouble getting our running game going in the first half, and this week I really want to focus on getting a little more push up front off the snap and giving Owen the little amount of space he needs to do what he does. Controlling the line of scrimmage is job one every game. That opens the field for our offense and gives Evan the ability to start looking down field to get the ball into the hands of guys like Braylon, Noah, Willie and Oliver. We were really happy with the game Braylon had last week, obviously, and want our guys to execute tomorrow night so we get the opportunity to let some other guys step up in the game like that. CovCath needs to focus on coming out and putting together four solid quarters of football without taking their foot off the gas. Anybody who thinks we can look past a team with players like Selm and Bohms and the Obers needs to stay on the bus. SK's a nice squad. They had like 7 or 8 guys who ran the ball for them last week. This is a 6A team that has depth. They have like 80 guys on their roster. Teams like that have the ability to put in a fresh pair of legs every play and wear you down. We need to show up to play and be prepared to put out four quarters of hard nosed football, smart football, and get it done.

No. We are choosing to play in our class. By the numbers we aren't even a big 4A school. Is Boyle County ducking anyone by not playing up?

Correct. All we can do is have bodies prepared, locked and loaded for when the weather allows us to get this one in.

If you have any student athletes at home I'd recommend keeping a pitcher of that mixed up and in the fridge at all times during the warmer months especially. It's a simple solution to a common problem.

Coach Shafii and staff have the freds tuned up. It'll be an exciting season of freshman ball for us. Looking forward to things on Saturday with a big season opener against the Bluebirds.

Absolutely right. Electrolyte management is also a must to optimize bloodflow and oxygenation to muscles and keep the leg cramps at bay, so we need to be putting more than water into our system when the weather is as brutal as it is today.

Hydration starts the day before, fellas. Remember that.
