  1. Snap to no one by Apollo sets up a 3rd and 35. Two plays later, Harrison Bowman with a nice punt to put Henderson on their own 23. holding on the first play puts them back on their own 17
  2. I am headed to Hendo from work now. I will update for as long as my phone lives.
  3. Wanting to win, and making it your primary focus are two different things. There’s also a big difference in the emphasis from an administrative point of view (at least there should be). If frosh or JV go winless, but the varsity team is 9-1 with a run into the playoffs, admin might ask the head coach some questions. There’s little chance anyone’s heads will roll. Especially if the head coach sees the big picture and players were developed. If varsity goes winless, and JV finishes undefeated, especially if there’s a pattern of such, the whole staff might be out of a job.
  4. If you’re focused on winning at any level below varsity, you’ve got your priorities wayyyyy out of whack. No one cares about the win-loss record of a kid’s 5th grade team. Like him or not, Julian Tackett himself makes a powerful statement in the KHSAA sports safety clinic: JV games and below are nothing more than glorified scrimmages. The 5th grade kid who shows worlds’ of promise may peak in 7th grade and be done. I was a 6-foot, 230 pound, athletic 8th grader who loved basketball. I never grew another inch. Do you know how much varsity playing time a 6-foot, 230 pound varsity basketball player gets on a team with five starters 6-4 and above? Virtually none. Likewise, some of those same kids couldn’t stop me from scoring in middle school, but hit their growth spurts late. Every coach who has his priorities in order will teach character first. The varsity head coach is the only one with any skin in the win-loss record.
  5. Sadly, as I read through this post over the weekend, I knew this is how it would end. I did not know him, but some of the things I’ve read really painted a picture of what I missed out on. Best of wishes to his family, and Rest In Peace, sir.
  6. This!! We deal with this in Daviess County as well. Except here, it’s 3 middle schools into 2 high schools and one of the middle schools splits students. The middle school coaches are not invested in the high school programs. Hopeful we start to see that turn around soon, as I’ve heard there’s direction from central office to fix it.
  7. Reminds me why I’m glad I left that area. Seems like that kind of stuff was always happening when it was Lone Oak, Reidland and Heath as well. Not to mention how easy it was for someone to jump ship to St Mary’s for basketball or baseball.
  8. In your defense, you were right about Apollo needing to capitalize on McCracken mistakes. That’s what allowed them to jump out to the early lead, and hang on to it in the end.
  9. I agree with you. Unfortunately, a large percentage of parents in today’s world do nothing but support their kids against any kind of discipline issued by a school.
  10. I don’t think so either, especially since we beat them at home last year with a huge defensive stand. Unfortunately, in the time I’ve lived here that was the first time I’ve been to an AHS vs DC game that did not involve at least a scuffle and/or ejection. Would rather watch kids play the game hard and leave the nonsense at home. If the head coach is encouraging that kind of play, he should be fired.
  11. That’s the difference between a school with a tradition of winning, and one that finds themselves in the middle of a blessed season. Owensboro acts like they’ve done this before. County loses all sense of class whatsoever. Prediction: if they do that against Apollo with the history of animosity between the schools, someone will get hurt.
  12. 28-14 at halftime Mustangs to receive to start the second half
  13. Yes, thank you for asking. I'm vaccinated, and have no symptoms other than spiking a fever this morning at work. I can't test for 48 hours per my hospital policy, so I'm out for 2 days pending results. I'm hopeful it's just regular influenza. At near-400 pounds, losing my sense of taste could send me into a psych ward.
