  1. Curious on Coopers fgm vs fga? I’d guess Drauds % better then coopers. I’d guess Cooper at 18 for 55 from the field.
  2. If they lost in OT, Missing the front end of that one in one would’ve haunted him for a while. He short armed it so bad it was close to an airball.
  3. You sure complain about officiating a lot. No dog in the fight here, but I’m sorry you can call a defensive foul on Cooper or CCH on close to every possession.
  4. Now that Beechwood is 2A, that seems like a logical out of district game to gauge WV's competitiveness. Assuming, Beechwood is willing which they may not be.
  5. Easy to figure out when you only have one guy consistently willing to shoot the ball outside of 10 feet! CCH size can be an issue at times, but they have major issues scoring outside of the paint. After having watched BW beat CCH twice, I’m still surprised at the way CCH was able to outmuscle Cooper in that 2nd half in Park Hills. Even more surprising after seeing how Cooper outmuscled Beechwood in Union. One of the issues CCH has with the big lineup is staying in front of tough guards. There was a sequence in the 2nd half where Greene was guarding a much smaller guy. That guard drove to the middle and Greene’s hand was basically in his chest and called for fouls on both drives in about a 30 second span. He’s a freak athlete for sure but maybe not quick enough to stay in front of smaller, quicker guards. If CCH is called for all the hands in the body, pushes and pulls of the jersey it changes the game. They get away with it most games, but sometimes they do not.
  6. Oyler has an 8th grader ranked in top 10 of the 2023 class. Plays on the same AAU team as Lebrons son, so he’ll get plenty of attention. I can’t remember the young mans name but there was an article in the Enquirer on him earlier in the year. Oyler is a tiny CPS school K-12 in Lower price hill so I assume he plays varsity.
  7. Davin’s return is probably more important than Mayer. Not sure Mayer helps any of their weaknesses. He’s another big banging, playing tough defense who wont shoot outside of 6 feet. They have plenty of those guys on the floor now. Tough to win against good teams when you only have one kid consistently looking to shoot outside of the paint. I don’t see Michael helping in that area. Sure he’ll have an impact but it’s not like CJ Frederick is returning to action to knock down jumpers.
  8. Big win by the Tigers. After the Cooper games, I don’t think many expected this. Personally thought it would be too physical for the Tigers and the Colonels size like agaisnt Cooper would be the determining factor. However, the Tigers battled tonight, fighting through rubs and grabs! First half 50/50 balls appeared to go Beechwoods way. 3rd quarter nearly ever 50/50 ball went the Colonels way allowing them to build a 7 point lead. Tigers battled back in the 4th. Tigers gave up very few easy baskets and every layup that was missed by the Colonels was contested. Late in the 4th you expected the Colonels to hold the ball. They did run clock for a short time and then would attack and miss a contested shot in the paint. Schilling’s box score was probably not impressive but he held his own on the block all night against guys 3 to 5” taller than he. Did the Tigers benefit from some home cooking? Maybe, but if you watch many Covcath games objectively an official could call a foul on Covcath on nearly every possession and they do not because it’s their “style” of play. Tonight was no different in that aspect. Great effort by both teams. Bieger and Disken matchup will be fun to watch next year and possibly 2 more games this year. Two guys who leave it all on the floor on every possession and play with passion!
  9. Something has to change! Lots of kids with a lot of resources.
  10. You can’t let Harding catch the ball freely in that situation. You double him and deny and make someone else beat you. He’s too strong to keep out of the paint once he catches it at the top of he key with a spread floor.
  11. Covcath and Cooper are without a doubt the two best teams but they can survive pretty much any starter being out of the game against most if not all other 9th region teams. Disken at CCH may be the exception to that last statement but I don’t think he’s player of the year. Cooper and CCH are well rounded teams with a different leader each night so hard to pick someone from either squad. So with that in mind I think you have to go Harding. Draud would be in the conversation based on PPG and Beechwoods record but I believe Harding has edge in all-around game. Two Head to head match-ups in the coming weeks will make that decision easier. Sisson could make a claim as top player, but Highlands has been too up and down as their record indicates.
  12. CCH had trouble getting the ball fed to the post in the first half. Cooper fronted and fought for position. Many times Cooper defenders were a step quicker to beating the CCH cutter to the block and if the Cooper defender wasn’t there first, the pass would be a bit late and Cooper was able to deflect the entry pass. In the 2nd half CCH made adjustments, swang the ball a little more and big guys cutting to the block were able to get better position with Cooper still fronting. I’d also think a bit of fatigue set in on Coopers side from battling bigger guys for position on the block all night. Perhaps that made those entry passes a little easier to get through. Cooper gambled with the fronting and if the pass got over or through the defender there was no backside help and it was an easy lay up for Thelen, Fleek, or Greene. Very physical game from two teams that battle.
  13. This game will be a lot like the Cooper vs Beechwood game. Simon Kenton may be a little better at handling the physicality then Beechwood, but not enough to sway the outcome of the game in their favor.
  14. I’m guessing he’s insinuating the referee bias based on only being graded by your regions coaches.
  15. Solid .. they beat Oldham Co who beat Highlands.
  16. Game too physical for most of the Beechwood boys. Beechwood really struggled to get anything offensively in half court sets. Cooper challenges every pass/shot, bumps off every screen. You must be able to play through contact to have success against them. That philosophy isn’t going to change in Union, so if Beechwood wants to challenge they better hit the weight room hard starting tomorrow.
  17. That’s a cop out. We’ve heard for years about how much talent is in the pipeline at CCH. “JV team has won this many games in a row”. “Did you see the freshman team, guys will have to transfer if they want to play”. CCH transfers not in the pecking order are making an impact at other schools, yet guys who have been playing together in the same program have to “gel” simply because they are now playing varsity. Sounds similar to the college team an hour south, other then the defense. Maybe the basketball talent is a bit over stated. Lots of athletic physical specimens who arent the best shooters. They’ll win games even against good teams with their defense and athleticism, but I’d guess they’ll see most teams slow it down and zone them and cause fits for the offense. Hard to zone them last year with Aiden and CJ.
  18. Beechwood loses the entire offensive and defensive lines, most of whom are 3 year starters. They will be very inexeperienced up front.
  19. While I think it will be a competitive game, you have to go with the BW seniors going for the 3-peat. Many of those seniors contributed as sophomores. ATLCat's analysis on line is spot on. If Pikeville has solid line play, this will be a real interesting game because I'm not real confident in BW QB having to throw the ball down the field if needed. If BW is able to run the ball like they have against other 1A schools they will win by 3 TD's.
  20. Not taking anything away from Castelman or BW's rushing attack in the game, but that 220 is a bit skewed by the 90 yarder in the final minutes. Even if you take that away it was still heck of a game on the ground for BW dominating the 6A Pioneers.
  21. If it read Pikeville vs Hazard would you say Pikeville wins comfortably? Not sure if Hazard has some injuries, but Williamsburg's score vs Hazard last week looks a little better then Pikeville's score vs Hazard! I agree the Paintsville vs Raceland game is probably the best, but that Pikeville/Williamsburg game should be competitive. Williamsburg also played a competitive game with Paintsville.
