Nice road win for the Colts. I wish I could have made it for this one! Next up for the Colts is Withrow H.S. in Cincinnati tomorrow. Then it's on to the Derek Smith Invitational on Sunday at St. Xavier where the Colts will play Shabach Christian Academy from Landover Maryland. Quite a busy weekend!!

The Colts had their chances, but some of their key players just went cold. Credit to the Rocks defense. Drae Vasser is the real deal, but then again DeSales' guard Damone King is also! The Colts play on the road next at Ballard. That should be another good contest. Hopefully, the Colts will shoot a bit better next time. Should be an interesting season!

Nice experience for the kids from Australia. I'm sure the DeSales students enjoyed the spectacle too. The real test for the Colts will be tomorrow night when the Trinity Rocks come to DeSales to open the regular season. I hope the Colts can hold their own against a Trinity team that many people think is one of the top teams in Kentucky. If DeSales can rebound with them they might be able to pull off the upset. Should be a good one!

I agree with Frank that the goalkeepers were the standout stars of the match. Both did an admirable job. Congratulations to Ryle for a gutsy performance & good luck to the Tigers in the State Final.

Kudos to the Birds!! I was out of town, so I missed seeing the game. I wish I could have been there. I knew, going into this game, it was going to be a struggle for South Oldham considering all the problems they have had to deal with. plus, Highlands being one of the best teams in the state this season. But, I must say, I'm very proud of those girls. They didn't let two early goals by HHS get them down. My source at the game texted me and said I would have been proud of them for fighting back and making a game of it. It's going to be a tough row to hoe for the Lady Dragons. Their district opponent will be one of the school's traditional "Rivals" (Oldham County or North Oldham). But, if I understand the Regional rules correctly, even if South wins their District, they will automatically draw one of the survivors of the 7th Region, most likely either Sacred Heart or Assumption. Well, the Dragons have played one of the toughest schedules in the state this year, so hopefully that will prepare them for the tough battles ahead. There are a lot of really good teams out there this year, so it should be one heck of a good post-season to follow. Thanks to Frank Nicodemus for his insightful commentary all season long!! Good luck in the tournaments Frank!

I kind of like 2 much info's idea! I never would have thought of that method. A coach would have a really tough decision to make about who to remove from the game. Another ulcer for the coach, but a clever solution to the problem.

The SHA vs South game should be a good yardstick to measure South's progress. SHA should be a heavy favorite. Even a close result might give South room to hope!! There's a lot of good soccer still to be played.

If I were a coach and had a vote this would be my top 10: 1.SHA 2. LexCath 3. NDA 4. Assumption 5. E-town 6. Bethlehem 7. Highlands 8. South Oldham 9. Lafayette 10. Dixie Heights or Bowling Green. Of course I could change my mind tomorrow or next week. I'm a South Oldham supporter so I'm a bit biased. South is beat up and ailing, but improving a bit. They close out their regular season against Sacred Heart(10-2-1), Central Hardin (8-3-1), West Jessamine (4-4-2), Brown (7-2-0), and Highlands (9-2-1). They should win 3 of those, and might have a bit of a chance against SHA & Highlands if they can get healthy and stabilize their lineup. They are not dominant like last year, but they can't be overlooked. A late season surge is still possible.

The Dragons still have a good team, but certainly not #1 in the State. As Runcible Owl has pointed out, they lost 6 very talented players off of the 2022 team. Their '23 team has some nice players, but they have struggled for a number of reasons. Injury & illness have caused a few to be absent from a game or two, and a couple started the season after being sidelined with significant knee injuries and still haven't gotten back to form yet. Some talented younger players have stepped in to take up the slack, but the team as a whole seems to be having trouble meshing together into a coherent squad so far. Don't be surprised if they lose 1 or 2 more before they get comfortable with each other and begin to right the ship in time for the post season play. If the younger players learn how to fit in, they will still be a formidable team for the District, Region, & State.

Frank, South Oldham also plays 7 of the teams on that list. #2 Assumption, #3 Etown, #4 Sacred Heart, #6 Highlands, #10 Bethlehem, #11 Oldham Co., #14 Manual. The Dragons lost a lot of players to graduation, but they still should be very good with a group of very good new-comers to mix in with their returners from last year. It was just a scrimmage, but South played Assumption at the University of Louisville camp 0-0 tie - South won after 10 PK's 1-0. Both teams are loaded again this year.

Lex Cath pulled off a nice win against a really good team!! That's baseball for you!

All the fan comments on here have made me a fan of Coach Unseld. I think I'll be pulling for them to win this year! Thanks to everyone for your entertaining and informative comments throughout the season.

One thing I was struck by. Male's #0 Cole Edlin, had a couple of occasions where he and an opponent bumped into each other. When the other kid went down, Edlin went over and offered to help him up off of the floor. It's just a small thing, but it shows class!

As much as I would love to see a Final between Ashland & Male (a 3 point fest), I don't think Ashland can overcome Warren Central's size and athleticism. I'll pick Warren Central winning this one!

Both teams are on pretty good rolls lately, but I'm going to pick Male. They have a handful of really good shooters. Great 3 point shooters & good free-throw shooters. Male is not as good as they would have been if Kaleb Glenn had stayed, but the guys they do have are solid and confident shooters.

Sheppard is getting very little help from his team mates! Unless someone steps up to the plate in the 2nd half to help out, the Jags are toast!
