The Bluebirds finish off a terrific September, going 9-0-2. Nice job ladies!

Looking forward to details from @FrankNicodemus and @coachb110.

Highlands opens 36th District play vs. Dayton on Monday at Tower Park.

KHSAA stat sheet for the Bluebirds below; none yet for the Lady Dragons.

After a tough week with NDA & ETown ties this was a sweet road win down at South Oldham. First off who turned up the thermostat, low 80s on Sept 30th probably felt like 90s on that turf with these two teams playing hard you could see the fatigue at the end of this game.

The first half felt like it was all Birds. The first goal was a corner kick that found Franny shielding the keeper, ball got to her feet and she was able to turn to punch the ball in.

The 2nd goal was a nice attack by Laney Smith to put Birds up 2-0 at the half.

Coming out in 2nd half maybe feeling a little too confidant the Birds got stung by two unfortunate plays QUICKLY. 1st Dragons goal was on a nice corner kick that flew to the garbage back post and was punched in. 2nd goal was a 45 yd laser line drive that was probably 10 ft in the air that was able to go over the out reach of Nat who was obviously playing up to the 18 box.

Both goals probably happened within first 10 minutes of the 2nd half.

After the 2nd goal you saw the fumes coming from the Birds players that they were not going to lose this game. They played with a ton of hunger wanting that 3rd goal.

Finally playing the ball in South Oldham box a Birds player gets pushed down resulting in a PK, Kate Jamie puts it in the upper right 90 to put the Birds up 3-2.

that's how it finishes, nice grind it out win for the Birds to cap off a great regular season.

Now the real season starts!  Let’s go!!!

Kudos to the Birds!! I was out of town, so I missed seeing the game. I wish I could have been there.  I knew, going into this game, it was going to be a struggle for South Oldham considering all the problems they have had to deal with. plus, Highlands being one of the best teams in the state this season. But, I must say, I'm very proud of those girls.  They didn't let two early goals by HHS get them down.  My source at the game texted me and said I would have been proud of them for fighting back and making a game of it.  It's going to be a tough row to hoe for the Lady Dragons. Their district opponent will be one of the school's traditional "Rivals" (Oldham County or North Oldham).  But, if I understand the Regional rules correctly, even if South wins their District, they will automatically draw one of the survivors of the 7th Region, most likely either Sacred Heart or Assumption.  Well, the Dragons have played one of the toughest schedules in the state this year, so hopefully that will prepare them for the tough battles ahead.  There are a lot of really good teams out there this year, so it should be one heck of a good post-season to follow.  Thanks to Frank Nicodemus for his insightful commentary all season long!!  Good luck in the tournaments Frank!
